I am 6' tall and 200lbs. Realistically this would be an average sized sleeper. I tried the original purple mattress and found it soft yet firm simultaneously. It felt weird and too firm overall to sleep well on, I exchanged it for the purple 4 and that felt way too noodly soft and unsupportive, I felt like I was folding in half like a taco trying to sleep. Customer service was very friendly and excellent helping me return both mattresses.Their matresses are weird and exciting and like nothing else out there but they were not for me and my fickle low back.

It's hard to explain how good this mattress is because traditional mattresses do not compare. The feeling you get when you lay down and all your muscles relax and you feel the support just where you need it makes all the difference. If you are one of those people who takes their pillow with them when they travel, better get a bigger bag because it's hard to be away from your purple mattress.

There are tons of Pros for this mattress but likewise for me at the very least there are alot of Cons. First off I would like to say that this is just my experience and that this mattress may be perfect for you but given my existing medical issues (Bradychardia, Circulation issues, Rheumatism, Muscular disorder, Asthma, GERD, are my conditions) I am having to work very hard to make this "work" for me and that everyone I talked t through the buying experience has been more than awesome. One of the best things about the mattress is that it did not smell in the least bit when I opened. It. This is my first mattress that contains memory foam and I have been holding off on buying one because all of the mattresses (aside from this one) that I have seen stink to high heaven. This one does not smell although opening the item was a chore given the video said to use the cutter provided so that it would not cut the mattress but it did not come with one so I had to have a couple of people come to my house to help me pull it out of the sleeve and gently try to cut it out of the wrapping. This did not go well. It does tend to conform around the hip and back area really well which is both good and bad. Your torso naturally is heavier than your legs and a lot of the weight is centered around your hips but I noticed that when I lay my head seems to be "downhill". My feet are higher than my head while I am laid on my back (this is that whole torso heavier than your legs thing). So I had to use pillows to prop my head up high including the purple pillow which left my head at a funny angle almost chin to chest which really hurt my neck just to keep that strange hanging upside down feeling from coming on. As an example, imagine laying head down on a playground slide for a little while. Now, I would like to not that I am a larger guy I am 6 ft 250 lbs so this issue may not even be an issue for lighter people. Now, on that same note when your feet are now higher than your heart and you have heart issues, circulation issue, rheumatism, and muscular issues or just any of the above it may cause issues with swelling in feet or at least it did for me because your legs will not sink in and will be higher than your heart. Another issue along the same lines was the fact that stomach acid had made its way to my throat from the "downhill" style laying. The last issue was trying to get up. After about 3 hrs of trying to sleep I finally got up and went to lay on the couch which was not alot better but helped. The only issue was now having been nice and cushioned by the mattress it was very difficult for me to get up. You really have a muscular workout trying to get up and add that with my already existing arthritis and it was a task. Now, I would like to mention that a lot of these issues could be solved if you had the reclining base for the bed. I really love the people at Purple I think the mattress is absolutely great for most others I just wanted to give you my impressions that I feel may be important for people who have certain disorders or problems and I am sure alot of these problems are existent on other memory foam mattresses that are far inferior to this one. I hope this does help and if you have any questions I would just ask the sales team they are very nice. As for me I wished I had, had a place to store my old inner spring mattress and had not tossed it when I sat this one up but there was no where to put it. As for what is next, I am not sure I may try to buy a wedge to keep my torso higher and see if sleeping closer to the edge will help me get up if not I am not sure what I will do.

I kept hearing the hype on Purple, and now I'm a total believer! Coming from an old box spring mattress this is light years better, I sleep cooler and with much less tossing and turning during the night. No more waking up tired with back pain. It's a little on the expensive side but it's a well worth investment!

I love this bed and would give it five stars if it weren't for what seems to be an impression that I am making where I lay on it. I will have to wait and see how resilient the foam is. My back has not felt this good when I wake up since I was a young man. I love the feel and don't have to move as much as I did during the night. My wife loves it too.

I never write reviews. However, this mattress deserves one! From the first minute I laid down I've woken up for the last month with no back pain. Literally, from the first time. I've had back pain for the last 2 years from a tough pregnancy. Chiropractor, stretching, yoga, nothing helped permanently. I took a 1 hour nap after setting my mattress up and I know it sounds crazy but my back quit locking up and I can sleep well again. I know have 3 friends and my Chiro ordering one. Love it.

I have loved this mattress from the first time I slept on it. It was a little challenging for me because when I am very tired I get very cold. I solved that problem with very warm organic wool and cotton bedding and pajamas. I so hoped to be writing this review with a stellar report because, the mattress is incredibly comfortable. However mine has developed an indentation in the center within a 60 day period. I'm very sad. I don't know how I will package the mattress up to return it.

I highly recommend sleeping purple. The first night was like a dream come true. My husband and I hadn't slept that well in over a year. I have had back surgery and live at the pain clinic, so a bed that supports my back, keeps my spine straight and has no pressure points is amazing. TAKE A CHANCE YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID.

Had I known how this would change the energy in my life I would have happily paid double for this mattress. The marketing is witty and intelligent, but the informed consumer knows its still a gamble. Trust me when I tell you Purple is selling sound and comfortable sleep that lasts throughout the night. Nothing aches anymore. Coffee is no longer necessary. Going to bed is a pleasure again. THe best comparison I can give you is this: Purple is to mattresses as the iPhone is to cellular phones. Bravo, Purple. Thank you!

I do enjoy this bed. Although I'm not extremely picky when it comes to sleeping on a bed and its taking some time to get used to. Definitely sink into it a whole lot more. Have had bad nights and great nights. Hoping I become more comfortable with it as time goes on.
