This bed definitely supports your spine. I've been getting a deeper sleep since we got it and find myself dreaming, which has by happened for a while. It's nice to wake up in the mornings and feel as though I've actually slept. Thanks Purple. The only reason this isn't a five star is because I can't sleep on my stomach on this bed. You can feel your stomach sink in on this bed creating a curve in your spine. Otherwise, great bed.

Let me start this review off by saying that despite everything I am about to say I would buy this mattress again. I chose to get this bed because my innerspring mattress was creating a lot of discomfort and pain throughout the night (and day) from all of the pressure points. This mattress was less than 2 yrs old. When I received this mattress I weighed about 275 lbs (recently down from over 300 lbs). I was surprised by the lack of the support from the upper layers. I immediately sank down and could feel the bottom (firmest) layer very pronounced. Despite the lack of comfort from the bed it did grant me something I dearly needed which was a day without pain. The lack of pain the day after the first night sleep was amazing. That being said I am a side sleeper and the only time and I not uncomfortable in the bed is on my back which would be fine if I could sleep in that position. Consequently I typically have trouble finding a position in which to sleep that affords comfort. Out of habit I try to sleep on my side with my arm under my head with the pillow in between. The mattress will not permit this (for me). When I try it positions my spine out of alignment and I experience fairly intense pain. It could no doubt be argued that one should not sleep in such a position to which I reply "I sleep how I sleep. I am not conscience when I change positions in the middle of the night so I have little control over it." I am not saying don't buy the bed if you sleep like this as well. I am saying go in fully informed. My innerspring mattress accommodated this way of sleeping. The purple mattress does not (at least for me). It is probable that I will not experience many of these issues when I am down to 240 lbs or less. By the same token I cannot even imagine the discomfort if I were still over 300. I just think if you are a heavier person you should take this into consideration. That being said, if you are not someone who has a problem sending the mattress back if it does not work out of you, then you really have nothing to loose by trying it out (with the likely exception of a fair shipping and handling fee).

I wasn't totally "sold" for the first few nights of sleeping on this mattress. My husband and I had been sleeping on a really soft mattress for years, and were very used to it. It certainly took a few weeks to get adjusted. But I can say that now we really do love it. I don't hurt anymore when I wake up. The only thing that I have issues with is that I am a side sleeper, and I need to get a thicker pillow to support my head and neck because my current pillow causes my shoulder to hurt on the side that I sleep on. Once I get that, it will be perfect. My husband is a stomach sleeper, and he loves the bed. Also, the sheets are AMAZING.

My husband and I chose this mattress because it seemed like the only innovative idea in the industry. I definitely was not swayed by the commercials, which I really dislike. We also ordered the base. It came last night and we will set it up today. I have RA and a lack of sleep can trigger flareups. My husband sleeps like a rock anywhere, any time. So far, customer service has been wonderful. I will post another review after we've tried the mattress. I am crossing my fingers.

It took me several weeks to get adjusted to this mattress. I had to use my foam pad for about a week and then took it off and now I am sleeping better. I am guessing if you are a heavier person than I am the mattress would be more comfortable as the mattress would conform to your body better. I don't know if I would buy a second mattress like this. I'm a bit disappointed with it.

Ever since a backpacking trip 16 years ago to see the redwoods in Northern California, my lower back hurts every night. It has never been a real issue, as once I get up, the pain goes away after maybe 5 minutes of walking around. I've just gotten used to it. The only "bed" that doesn't cause the pain is my hammock, which I now use on backpacking trips. Besides the hammock, every single mattress causes back pain. I've probably slept on 30 different mattresses between friends' houses, hotels, and family. Well, last night was my second night on my new Purple mattress, and they were the FIRST two nights in an actual bed that did not give me back pain. I know all mattresses claim to alleviate back pain, and so many reviewers say the same thing, but the Purple has seriously set my back straight. Fortunately, my back pain wasn't serious, and did not cause problems once I was out of bed, but it's nice to be able to sleep 10+ hours and not have to wake up due to back pain. Furthermore, it was amazing being able to just jump out of bed to quickly take the puppy out this morning. Usually, I would have been limping around for 5 minutes before the pain went away. When I first laid on the mattress, it was firmer than I expected. My first impression was actually that I would like it, but not love it. After two nights, I couldn't be happier. My wife and I both slept great. She doesn't sleep well, and didn't wake up once. I know the back pain disappearing for two nights in 16 years sounds statistically irrelevant, but it is the ONLY two nights on a mattress to be able to claim that. It was the mattress for sure. I am sold, and will be keeping my Purple. Oh, it also doesn't transfer motion, which is great for us with dogs. So perfect. I'm so happy! Thanks Purple!

I bought this mattress last year and it's way too soft which ended up giving me lower back pain and numbness each morning until it developed into sciatica. I was in pain for a whole month. The only new thing in my life was this mattress. DO NOT BUY THIS MATTRESS. I'm 30 and never had any back issues my entire life.

I used to wake up every morning feeling like I had been beat up. I was achy sore and found it hard to get moving. First night on the purple mattress was horrible. I thought I had made a mistake. But the next night I slept like a baby. After several months, gone are the achy mornings that I used to have.

My husband and I have had our purple original for 3.5 years. We purchased it with the metal platform (when it had a life time warranty). We are both over weight and easily put 450+lbs on this mattress every night. This mattress feels the same as it did on day one! Before this mattress, my husband used to wake up in the middle of the night with back pain and it would take him hours to go back to sleep. Since Purple came into our lives, he goes to sleep, almost as soon as he lays down, and sleeps through the night, waking up with no pain. When we first got it, it seemed a little more firm than we were expecting, but after a week, we were used to it and now we get sad when we have to travel and sleep on a different mattress. Purple needs to do a partnership with some hotels (Please!). We initially loved the metal platform, it was squeak free and the underneath storage was wonderful, until about 2 years, then it became squeaky with every movement. When we contacted purple, they were "sold out" of the frames, so sent us the basic adjustable frame(No massage or fancy features, just a remote and basic movements), at no extra cost, though this got rid of our extra storage space, it is a decent frame. And the customer service was top notch. All in all, we our in love with our mattress, even after 3.5 years and plan to be Purple customers for life.

We finally decided to get a purple again after we had got some other online brand for our first king size bed. It was fine at first, but got worse and worse to the point where I wouldn't sleep on it anymore, I would go sleep in the guest bed (which was our original purple queen). Back on a purple, this mattress is dreamy, even compared to our original purple. Soft yet supportive. No longer waking up with back pain!
