Let me start by saying it's early days yet... we've only tried the bed for about 10 days. I have been leery of foam beds for a long time, because all my experience with them has been that they sleep too hot for me, and I always wake up sweaty and have to get out of bed a while to cool off... Even when the AC is cranked up high and the wife is trying to stay warm in her fleece. I was attracted to Purple because of the reviews that said that it slept cool.. and the idea of the open structure seemed to fit that idea. I liked the technical part of the purple advertising, and endured the cutesy-mod part of it. I talked my wife into trying it, because we were both tired of the old bed. She said, 'well, if we can return it,,,, OK". I have a lot of problems sleeping.. I use a CPAP breathing machine because I have apnea, and I have had serious back surgery and have had a lot of back discomfort. My wife has trouble to fall asleep and be warm enough, and I have trouble to stay asleep and be cool enough. So we were asking a lot of one mattress. Here is what we have found so far: Pro's: -we both seem to sleep more deeply on the purple.. perhaps because we have less pressure points and less frequent movement and rolling. -we were pleasantly surprised that when sitting on the edge we did not sink in as deeply as we expected.. it was firmer than we thought it would be based on the reviews we saw. -we like the sheets (though the feel and drape is different and took some getting used to). -we both feel pressure points are reduced a lot compared to the old bed...especially me with broad shoulders. I am still figuring out how much pillow to use, now that I sink a bit farther than before. -we disturb each other less when one of us has to get up in the night, because motion doesn't propagate across the bed as much. Cons: -I did not find the reviews or the advertising to be true about sleeping cool. Of the 10 nights so far, 9 of them I awoke too hot, and had to get up to cool off. I am not yet sure why this is, but I don't like the quilt-like feel of the built-in mattress cover, and suspect it to be a contributor. -because I was worried about sleeping cool, I decided to get a purple bed frame to put the mattress on. This raised the bed height and supported it quite firmly (both good) .. but did not aid in making the mattress feel any cooler to me. (Incidentally I like the frame a lot, except the head-board supports are wimpy and the headboard wobbles unless it is against the wall.) -we have a bed skirt that has a sheet of material that covers the frame under the mattress. It is like gauze, and I would not think it would make the mattress feel any hotter, but I may try the bed without it in another attempt to make it cooler. So, the bottom line is that the purple is a better bed than what we had before (30 year old box and inner spring mattress combo) and we like it better than what we had. HOWEVER it did not deliver on all the promised features, and it may be we have to return it because it may turn out too hot for me in the end. If purple can suggest a way to make it cooler, I would like to hear it.
