I thought it would be softer. And it has taken me a while to get used to it. With that being said I love it. It's not hot in the summer and it's not cold in the winter. Last night I almost slept flat on my stomach with no pillow. You sink in but it is firm so once you get used to it it's the best of both worlds.

I really do like this mattress, it's very comfortable, I like the springy-ness of the polymer layer, and my husband falls asleep in about 3 minutes every night. There was a slight smell for the first couple weeks, but it wasn't so bad that we couldn't sleep on it. My only issue is that I am basically cold blooded, and live in a drafty house in Michigan (and it's January). I'm COLD when I get in bed and have a hard time warming up. Since the mattress is "temperature neutral" it doesn't retain heat well, so I am looking in investing in a heated blanket (as I understand that a heated pad will negate the lovely squishy-ness of the purple layer). I'm hoping that this summer I will appreciate the temperature regulation more than I do now. :) I sleep on my side, and have to use a very thin pillow with this mattress, as a thicker one hurts my neck as I now sink into the mattress. I'm not sure how the purple pillow would alleviate this issue. My only other issue with the mattress is my own personal preference, this mattress is not very thick, and with only the frame and the mattress, it's pretty low to the floor. I enjoy having a higher bed, and this setup makes my room look like a college dorm, rather than a hotel.. Again, something fixable, and more my own decor preference. My only other beef in general is that I ordered the mattress and got a deal with the sheets for free ... well, they deserve to be free, I don't think they are very good sheets at all. They are so stretchy, that I would pull them up to cover myself and they would snap back towards the end of the bed! We ended up just using the fitted sheet, and keeping our regular flat sheet to cover up with. Also the sheets are so thin, they are basically see through, and you essentially HAVE to get the mattress protector (which we will be doing in the near future) if you want to stop anything from touching the mattress.

I was skeptical at first buying a bed online, but after careful consideration, I dove right in. After receiving the bed and the base, taking very little time to assemble, this bed has worked wonders. It's so easy to get comfortable and fall asleep so fast. I never thought it was possible. As soon as I get home it's the first place I go wind down, and when I'm away it's where I want to be. No more body aches when waking up. Less back aches. Best purchase ever!

I am not in the habit of writing reviews, but this mattress has impressed me so much that I felt I owe it to the Purple folks to share what I have learned. My partner and I are in our early sixties. She suffers from very progressed degenerative disc disease. I suffered numerous crush injuries (including a crushed pelvis) in a car accident thirty years ago. Obviously we have some aches and pains. We were in need of a new mattress. So I set about doing the research to find one that might actually give us a tiny bit of relief. If in fact a mattress could actually help that sort of thing. I was not a "believer" at that point. I read product descriptions and reviews until my eyes were crossed and I felt I had sufficient information to make my choice. Buying a mattress sight unseen and untested was a big sticking point, but I got past it and ordered the Original Purple Mattress/queen size. It arrived in a surprisingly short time and was put in place and in business. The first morning I asked my partner how she felt. With a bit of a puzzled look she said, "I honestly think my back feels a bit better than usual." That spoke volumes to me. She isn't the type to rush to judgement. I knew I had gotten out of bed and could immediately straighten up. That bordered on shocking, but I wasn't allowing myself to get excited. Over a week later, this morning I asked again. How do you feel? Could you rate this mattress on a scale of 1 to 10? With zero hesitation, she said, "12". SHE SAID "12"!!! Remember I said she isn't one to rush to judgement. Personally, I have gone from pain waking almost everytime I move, to sleeping 3 or 4 hours at a time. Nothing short of a gift from Heaven. There is another major bonus feature to this mattress. My partner, for years, has had wicked night sweats. That has been very much diminished. Another gift from Purple Heaven. So...while this is very early in our experience with the Original Purple Mattress, I/we could not be more impressed. Hopefully, our sleep will continue to improve and our pain decrease. I don't know what more one could ask of a mattress. In my opinion, I made the perfect choice of mattress for us and it was money well spent. Thank you Purple.

When I ordered the purple bed I was skeptical, I spent the delivery time hoping I made the right choice. I read lots of reviews most of which were possitive however there were also plenty negative reviews, people saying it gave them back pain and that the matress was too firm. When it was finally delivered I put together the purple foundation which was very easy and looks great then unwrapped my new mattress. I dont know what all those negative people were talking about, it felt like a cloud and I never slept better in my entire life. I fall asleep faster now than I ever have and stay asleep all night. Absolutely love this bed and would recommend 100%

I'll say first of all that I believe each person sleeps better on different types of mattresses. I don't think there's one mattress that's best for everyone. That said, Neither my wife nor I got anything close to a good night's sleep on our Purple for three straight nights, and we returned it afterwards simply because we couldn't keep going like that. We truly needed to get more sleep, and we've never experienced that in any mattress before. The Purple was much more firm than we expected, even with stretchy sheets. I don't hold it against Purple very much that we didn't sleep well on the mattress, and delivery was pretty fast, and the return process was easy and painless. The packaging is another story. Our previous mattress was a Casper, which we also returned, as it was surprisingly firm as well. I took a video of the Casper setup, and it literally took three minutes from being in the delivery packaging to being on the bed, inflated, and ready to lie down. The Purple comes in way too much plastic. It was easily 15 minutes to wrestle through all the overlapping layers of plastic wrapping, and was a much more physical process to get it out of the plastic and laid out on the foundation. The bag it ships in (which hopefully is recyclable, in spite of the big zipper) looks disturbingly like a body bag. There was definitely a smell, which disappeared after a few days. I don't mind it personally, but my wife did very much. As I said, the whole experience was pretty painless, and I applaud the way companies like Purple are cutting out the ridiculous mattress stores from the process. This one just wasn't for us.

I had a Sealy for several years and over time, it caused my back pain to flare up more than usual. I've had two major back surgeries and it not easy to find a comfortable position. From day one, I have loved my Luxury King Purple! I tell everyone I know looking for a new mattress to check out the Purple one. Love it!

For having lower back pain I was looking for a tempurpedic bed but didn't want to pay a small fortune. Which I almost did. Found the Purple bed online and based on the price and their return policy, it was a no brainer. It's only been a few weeks but I've been sleeping better and noticed less lower back pain. It's only going to get better from here! Can't wait till the pillows arrive!

At first it didn't bother me--it was about the same as our old bed. My husband really liked it so we didn't return it. That was a mistake. The longer I sleep on it the worse I sleep! I actually wake up in pain EVERY DAY because of this mattress. That never happened before. And it's only a 90 day garantee so it looks like not only am in pain, but I paid a lot of money for it. We decided to invest in the original Purple knowing that a traditional mattress with boxspring was not providing us any level of comfort any more. My husband and I both have multiple areas of arthritis and were sick and tired - literally - of waking up every morning sore. In fact, my husband would often be up after only 4-5 hrs of sleep because he just wasn't comfortable in bed. With the Purple mattress, by day 2, he was and still is sleeping comfortably about 7-8 hrs a night now. And my hip joint pain and neck pain which were always aggravated after a night's sleep are pretty much none existent in the morning now. We have a bedframe that was not going to work with the Purple base, so we bought the Zinus 5" high bunkie board. The slats are 3" wide and about 3" apart which fit the specs. We will definitely be keeping the bed; it has made a clear difference for us. BTW we ordered the sheets as our freebie - kind of a weird texture - they almost feel like pantyhose almost. But they are comfortable and don't get too cold or too hot.
