I was forced to upgrade to Deluxe and pay $79, even though my return should have qualified for the free version. The only reason the software gave for the upgrade was that I entered education expenses—yet I didn't qualify for any education credit or deduction. As a result, my $356 refund was reduced by $79 due to the unnecessary upgrade fee. This feels like a greedy upsell tactic. I will not be using TurboTax again in the future.

Convenient, but some kinks to work out. Even leaving this review, the AI features are interfering with my typing, causing it to take longer while I correct spelling and phrasing... Please get rid of that... The cost seems to have gone up, where the first paid tier did not include Audit Protection. If I realized sooner that that was an add-on, I may not have chose TurboTax this year. Next year, I will have a closer look at rates first. One of the best features is how Turbo Tax imports last year's information. But being asked to enter the same information, or repeat a section, was tedious. Being logged out when activating Rakuten is annoying, and makes the process take longer, so I have to repeat a section I just did. It would be ideal to save sections as you go, and be able to go back to sections to review them easier. That option is there, but it was not as easy to find as previous years. For example, I said that I received Unemployment last year, but skipped that category to answer some other questions. I was not prompted to enter that Unemployment Income at the end of the questionnaire, and had to go back and find where to upload the document. Uploading the document didn't work, so I had to manually type the information anyway.. In the State section, it asked me to make some calculations and enter those amounts, rather than pull from last year's return... Weird... The site is also loading very slowly... Maybe it's the AI functions that are causing these mishaps.

The process felt unnecessarily confusing and full of upsells. I repeatedly got looped into upgrade screens just for trying to enter basic self-employment income and expenses. It wasn’t always clear what was required versus what was being pushed as a paid feature. At multiple points, I had to work around the system just to input information correctly, and some fields didn’t auto-fill properly, which made the experience more frustrating than it needed to be. For a product that’s supposed to simplify taxes, this felt overly complicated and at times misleading. Greater transparency around pricing and what’s actually required would make a big difference.

I tried multiple times to pay using direct payment from my checking account, payment plan with IRS or send a check and it would not go through. It forced me to use a credit card number and pay the fee. NOT happy about the $45 fee for using a debit card.

Zakiya really helped me with my tax return today. I couldn't figure out how to delete Form 5695 (after trying unsuccessfully to claim window improvements). She was quite helpful. I will say that it's sometimes difficult to undo a step or "fix" a step with the program. Having a human being around is crucial, as the AI software doesn't really understand nuance, or its own shortcomings.

My state return was rejected. I took a pic of my W2 and I was so happy that I didn’t have to enter all the numbers manually. I checked over everything twice, but it turns out that box 16 said that I made $13,367,000 when I made $133,367.00! Omg!! I have been so stressed out because I couldn’t figure out why my return was rejected. How did this even happen?

I like that its easy. Gets 2 stars for the fact it is done, and easy. Horrible that you made me purchase the Deluxe, at the very end of filing, over an HSA. Thought I could use the free one I have a W2 and 2 INTs very easy, but at the very end it says an HSA is too complicated, so now it costs nearly $200. The HSA calculations are literally in my W2. Not complicated. Just wonderful to lose a lot of my tax return.

Every year I prepare my own taxes and have for at least 20 years. I like the ease of using Turbo Tax and I feel confident I won't forget anything. When I have questions, there is always someone there or a text box that will answer my questions. The interface is easy to use and friendly. I only wish it didn't cost so much!!! for having to do this every year, there should be a tax break from taxes.

I've been filing with TurboTax since 2018 and never had any issues. I always filed for free and never upgraded to any packages for an additional fee. This year as I am filing my 2025 taxes, for some reason it would not let me opt out of the "Deluxe Do It Yourself" package, which is quite ironic since I'm being charged for it when I never received any guidance whatsoever. I kept trying to downgrade since I always choose for free $0, but couldn't. This is so disappointing and now my tax refund decreased just because I had to pay for something I never wanted. Might be my last time filing with TurboTax. Shame.

I've used turbo tax for years. I wasnt allowed to pay with a card because a hold was put on my account? I was never notified. I was forced to use my federal refund to pay witch charged be $40 more because their "systems were not updated" ? not the best experience this year.
