Great toy, but know this before you buy.

The Peg Perego John Deere Gator works great and my two grandchildren thoroughly enjoy it. However (and this is a BIG however), in order to recharge the battery, the front of the Gator must be removed, which entails either raising up the unit on its rear wheels or getting down on the ground, removing the retaining screw, unclipping the remaining fasteners, disconnecting the battery from the Gator, connecting the battery to the charger, then reversing the process. There are several problems with this process. The first is the cover is not designed for repeated removals and at some point, the screw hole will become stripped (it's plastic), and the clips (which are also plastic) will eventually fail. The second is the recharging process is rather cumbersome (I'm being quite generous when I say this). In summary, it's a great toy for the kids, but not so much for the adults responsible for keeping it charged. Had I known this from the outset, I would have not purchased it and I don't recommend it.

Wheels are horrible!

I bought this for my kids for Christmas they loved it! By the time it got warm enough to ride it, they only got to use it for maybe 2 months and the wheels starting cracking and falling apart now they can't ride it till I buy new wheels! I can't believe I paid $400 for this and my kids only used it for two months and can't use it anymore till I buy new wheels! Something this expensive should be a little better built! My kids weren't even rough on it at all!!

Fun for three year old!

My three year old LOVES this product! Rides it constantly. Battery only lasts for an hour or so though, so needs to be recharged regularly (18 hours)...I would recommend purchasing a second battery. Product is very pricey for what it is, but it has made one little boy VERY happy. The only complaints I would have would be the price, the battery issue and that the packing plastic had melted onto the parts and was quite difficult to remove, making assembly a bear. But after getting it together, it has been nothing but fun for my little guy...

My 4 year old loves this!

We got this for my son's 4th birthday. It was fairly easy to assemble, and the box it shipped in makes for a fun playhouse! There are two speeds, which is nice when my child needs to go slower or faster. He is learning how to put it in reverse/forward, but he's still working on the backing up part. If it were much smaller, he would be too big for it, so I would think it's too small for any kids over 5. Overall, it's fine, and I think he will fit in it comfortably for at least 2 more years, but up to age 8? I do t think so. Also, he actually helps my husband haul firewood in it, so it holds a load in the back. Great little vehicle and we are pleased.

Wouldn't buy or recommend

I bought this for my son. I've had peg perego products in the past but I am extremely disappointed with this purchase. First thing is the battery it came with is junk. I charged for 24 hrs first time and it only lasts 20-30 min and then takes a full 24 hrs to recharge. The second issue is the dump box release broke off after only using a handful of times. I've had the tractor and fourwheeler and those were great but I would definitely not buy the gator again. Really dissatisfied with the battery situation.

We've gotten a lot of use.

We purchased this almost 2 years ago for our sons Christmas present. He had just turned 1. He is a big kid and looked more like a 2.5-3 year old. He didn't have the steering down well at first but it was easy to just turn the wheel for him and it would stay put and he would only need to hit the gas and he would love riding in circles for a while. After a few months he finally figured out how to steer it, then reverse it and then go into high gear. He rides it all over our yard. It goes down little hills but not back up... The tires don't have that "off road" traction to be able to get up the hill, it just digs into the dirt. So that has been a little annoying but really no big deal.. The steering wheel came off about a year after having it, so I had to go to the store to buy a new long screw to fit and I had to reinforce with some duct tape to cover it up so it didn't stick out and potentially hurt my boys. That was a bit of a bummer, but an easy fix after a run to the hardware store. The battery didn't last but a year also. But then again, we live in Phoenix and we weren't bringing the battery in when we weren't using it, so that's more our fault. Batteries don't do well sitting out in the heat. So we have had to replace that and did at batteries plus, which they also have a 1 year warranty and if you keep your recipes you can exchange it for a new one of it ones bad within that year. I'm not sure what walmarts policy is with their batteries. Otherwise it's a nice ride, my boys love it and so do their friends. The weight capacity says 150, but I think we have had more weight on there between my boys and our friends kids who are a little bigger and they would pile two up front and two in the cargo area and ride around. However, that will drain the battery way faster. But we also purchased the super charger battery, it charges the battery in 2 hours compared to the 12-18 hours like the regular charger, that has been worth the money already as we've been able to let the kids play and have it charged up again for more play during bbq's and parties with friends and family. So I would recommend this and to also purchase the quick charger, I got everything from walmarts website. The faster charger is only on their website anyhow, not in stores, at least around my area. I'm happy with my purchase.

Hope it works as expected

Haven't been able to let my son try it out yet since it's a Christmas present. However the instructions are kind of a pain to read. The pictures aren't the best. I knew when I ordered it didn't have working buttons or lights but the amount of stickers to put on are ridiculous. Cheaper brands have better features

New model is for smaller kids!

We bought the older model gator in 2010 for our then 3 yr old and it was a really great product, we wanted to buy another for our younger son. They'd still be using the 2010 model but they wore it out. Our youngest is 5 (42 lbs.) and the new model gator is too small for him, his knees hit the dash. Recommended age on the box is 3 - 8 yrs old. We're taking it back! I wouldn't recommend the new gator for kids older than 3 -4 yrs old. We are super disappointed in the new model gator!

Worth the money

My son received this as a present when he was 3 years old. He rode it almost daily for 7 years!!! We never had one issue with it, EVER. Finally after 7 years and a 10 year old's weight it began to wear out. My daughter received a little Barbie power wheels this past year (different brand) and it only lasted a few months.... the more expensive Peg Perego John Deere is TOTALLY WORTH the extra money and will last until they outgrow it! This product was such a huge part of my sons childhood. Looking now to buy one for my daughter.

John Deere gator

For the money the product is great my grandchildren just absolutely adored it my grandchildren are 4 yrs (36) lbs. and 2 yrs (30) lbs The only problem is the battery does not give enough ride time with both children total of 66 pounds gives them about one hour and 30 minutes to play with the toy it says up to 130 pounds overall with ride time of an hour and 30 minutes my question when they reach this weight limit is it even going to move .. for the money that you pay I would think it would be better quality of battery I’m guessing
