Latest version is not user friendly and added fees

Was offered the on-line version for free with bonus of free state filing. However, on-line interface was very confusing and clunky. Ended up using the tried and true method of the desktop version. Did not like the import tax form feature like done in past as it created new entries and did not link to previous years 1099 forms so I could not historical notes and year-to-year amounts. Ended up manually typing in values and amounts. Did not like the additional secret cost of $45 to e-file Federal and deduct state filing cost from Federal Tax Return, since I "upgraded to Premium Service???". Ended up just paying using credit and avoiding the additional fee.

Not as streamlined as it used to be

TurboTax used to be very clean and easy to work with. Now there are too any up-sell pages. There is no way to simply say 'no' and have it leave you alone - the only options are to say 'yes' or 'not at this time' The options to e-file state, or not e-file state, should have a third option to print forms. I always seem to owe, or recieve about $1. I am not going to spend $20 to $25 to e-file this. I also had issue with it accepting my W2 EIN number, same one that i had for years. After two updates, it suddenly 'worked'

Desktop version is easier than the online version

I tried the online version this year to see what it was like. The ai helps were nice, but it didn't offer the ease of doing all of my family's returns from one account. I switched to the desktop version for my familiy's returns because it was so easy to work with in creating multiple returns. It's too bad the online version doesn't offer that option.

I'm done with TT!

Used it for years and it becomes more bloated every year. Features I like were not available like year-over-year comparison. $40 just to "let" TT subtract $15 for the remainder of state e-filing charge is criminal and takes advantage of people who don't ask questions. I am breaking up with Turbo Tax finally after all these years.

Doubled earned income resulting in double tax

I engaged with a live "expert" who said he can't help me. My issue is that TurboTax is doubling the earned income for the Hawaii state tax calculation resulting in double the tax owed. This is for my daughter who worked in California but is a resident of Hawaii. There was also no explanation for this or a means to undo it. Also, in general TurboTax lacks sufficient explanation on certain items if you need more info on what to enter. I used to use TorboTax for several years but will no longer do so due to the lack of guidance.

State E-file fee is taking advantage of customers

Making the calculations correctly is difficult for both me and Intuit, and I am willing to pay for that. Filing on paper is time-consuming for me, but the cost for Intuit to support e-filing in New Jersey (or any other state) should be very low. Charging a state filing fee comparable to the cost of the calculations, and portraying it as “only $25", seems like taking advantage of customers.

Too complex

I have a very simple return and yet it is very difficult to use your product. Besides the complexity of the tax code I think it may be because you have too many options currently. Also I could not find out how to verify the accuracy of the ip pin I entered. Also you force me to use a nickname to submit this review, what a pain!

Bugs that will cost you, keeps nagging to upgrade

Includes designs users will HATE like hiding the way to print a state return after the free federal e-file is used, hoping that the user gives up and pays another $25 for the state e-file. (answer: go back to the start of returns and choose "mail in" for federal AFTER you have already e-filed, and play through until it lets you print the mail-in form for the state.) Software is unable to handle refinancing a mortgage properly. Asks the right questions, calculates the amortized points correctly on the worksheet, but does not fill in Schedule A item 8c. Had I not found and overridden this value, this bug would have cost me thousands. If the desktop version has such a simple bug, I can only imagine how bad the stripped down online version is at getting me all the proper deductions and credits. Seems all the effort went into trying to up-sell the user to a higher level version that isn't needed, buy the expert review ad-on, or the state e-file add-on. Would be better if it the development effort was spent making sure it could do your taxes correctly. If there was any competing software that wasn't worse I would buy that.

Turbo Tax my Gold Standard For The Tax-Curious!

I have been using Turbo Tax for at least 19-20 years and it seems to get better every year. My ex-husband is an Enrolled Agent and I've learned a lot from him. I did have an issue this year. I had a dividend and I want to say o t dividend reporting form in TT in Box 7 it showed a -0.30. TT did not like that, but I felt weird changing it to a zero because technically it was not accurate. I would suggest that if that kind of a figure is irrelevant, then TT should prefill it as such. Otherwise, TT is my go-to!

Import is clunky

The step by step process was more cumbersome than previous years. The steps were not as clear and it took longer to input our info. The import from external financial sources (investments primarily) was very clunky. TT should recognize that downloads from firms that were used in years past should be recognized instead of creating a new download.
