TurboxTax - good & simple for basic filing.

Good basic walkthrough for standard income, deductions, credits. It doesn't give you any specific help or suggestions to cut your taxes or save money - e.g., it doesn't suggest you can file in a certain way for some cases, but it does select standard vs itemized deductions. The "click here" support links just take you to the main support page, not to specfic topic pages. They also make you download and pay for state taxes that do not have state taxes. It kept pushing me for paying for additional WA tax even though Washington does not have any taxes and there was no need for filing there. They make you pay $25 for each state.

TurboTax is OK

Filing 2025 was relatively easy. Estimating my 2026 estimated tax was somewhat confusing. I finally got it to work, BUT this 2025 version would not allow me to enter the expected withholding from our IRA distributions. The 2024 version had a place to enter expected withholding. It defaulted to the 2024 withholdings and would not let me override it. This caused the quarterly estimates to be overstated, thus making the payment vouchers incorrect. I will have to override the vouchers manually.

Only Glitch was entering CC Data

Overall Experience was good. But when I went to pay the state tax filing fee, on the Credit Card Entry form it would only allow you to enter experation months up to 10 (oct) and my main CC expires in 12 (Dec) So this was annoying so I had to go use another CC that had an earlier Month Epiration DAte. Be nice if you could fix this for next yea.

Great Tool that took a step back this year

Some of the UI took a step back. Cumbersome in too many places. When you confirm what forms you are going to use this year from last, and then download those forms, there are duplicate entries in the INT/DIV/ section. Also, when entering Social Security, there is a convoluted question (double negative) about not living in a country. Even when you answer it correctly, it takes you to Canadian Pension fund question that you have to ignore - and then you can't get rid of it in the summary.

Premier

I'm filing a joint return. Why is the s/w asking if my wife filed a return? Why did I have to enter my DL and my wife's DL twice?! For some reason my 2024 tax return was not saved, probably my fault, but when I tried to download my 2024 return from TurboTax, I got a file I could not open: jcdooling_TaxReturnFromTTO. Had to then go to the IRS for my 2024 AGI. Too much time wasted!

Pay to Play (and then Pay to File)

The interface is reliable enough, but the value is plummeting. Paying a premium for the Desktop software only to be hit with processing and filing fees feels like being charged a ‘table fee' after buying a full meal. The software experience itself is a bit dated—clunky navigation and constant upsells for services I've already theoretically paid for. It works, but the 'convenience' comes with a hidden tax that leaves a bad taste

Not as good as previous years.

Not as intuitive as previous years. Could not electronically pull in data from investment companies like JPM or Fidelity. Got "flags" in the summary view that my entries for IRAs and pension "Needed Review" but no links or instructions of how to do that or why it was being flagged.

TurboTax 2025 is the worst experience ever

In the deduction section, it didn't guide me to all the deduction categories before that section was 'Done'; I had to manually go to the Charitable Contribution and Car property tax sections to enter those info. Then my e-filed Federal tax return was rejected because it said my IP PIN is missing but when I opened the rejected return in the Turbo Tax, the tax return was missing and I had to complete the return again using the draft version the e-file rejected error message was attached to. Then I should have been allowed to re-file at no extra cost since it was TurboTax Smart Review that did not catch the error but I had to pay another $25 to e-file state return after already paying $15 (using $10 credit) in the initial e-file. So I am disputing the $15 charge with my credit card company and basically lost out on $10 credit. Worse experience ever.

Great, but required manual entries

The interview in the desktop software would not let me enter medical expenses because it said we only qualified for the federal standard deduction. It DID let me add charitable donations. The software automatically entered our medical expenses based on our 1095-A form, but we had more expenses to enter. While we still only qualified for the FEDERAL return standard deduction, the additional expenses are beneficial for our state return. I added them manually via “Forms”, but it was VERY frustrating. I buy TurboTax to avoid the manual entries and to cover all possibilities. Fail. I looked online and found similar questions from multiple years back. Some answers were vague and some accusatory that users didn't understand what they were doing. I wasn't going to ask a forum question or pay for advice for something the software should do and I was able to figure out on my own.

Turbo tax is good for 2025 taxes with one issue

Overall my experience with turbotax was good. The gliche with downloading the previous year's (2024) Turbotax into the current tax year's (2025) Turbotax needs to be fixed. The problem I had was written about multiple times in the Turbotax community.
