Turbo Tax has become marginally useful

Turbo tax used to have "it's deductible" which made summarizing no cash contributions straightforward. Now you have to click multiple times for every item. Turbo tax also used to provide an estimated tax for the next year from your previous year's taxes. Now you have to manually enter the information you already entered for your taxes in the w-4 form calculator. Turbo tax used to have understandable help and descriptions for items you are working on. Now they generally copy the incomprehensible IRS documentation and make you pay extra for live expert advice.

For tax year 2025 stick with TT-desktop.

TurboTax steered me to TT-Online and did almost all my taxes but did not like it as much as desktop - so had to do it all over in desktop. TT-on line hard to figure where you are and how to get back to an area i need to fix. TT keeps trying to push you back to TT-online and not always easy to tell where you are. For tax year 2025 stick with TT-desktop.

Turbo Tax is ?

I talked to a tech agent. I did not get my free state tax to e-file. She gave me a 25% off code,. She told me to put it in the payment section. There was no place to put it. Now I have a code that I don't know where it goes. I have used Turbo tax for many years. This is the first year I had trouble with it. Clothing and misc household area was terrible with no its deductible amounts.

Not as good as in past years

This has been the worst TurboTax experience I have ever had after many, many, many years of using. Some information was available in uploaded forms but still had to be entered this year. Have not had to in past years. The upselling has got to stop!!

Not great

Not great with their software. When you give back buton then i see that they have not displayed or clculated 1099-INT. Even though individually in one category they have displayed but did not use it for tax calcualtions. This software does not save work in between and only save at the last. Also no help/support link in the downloaded software.

most difficult year for using TurboTax since 2000

The Easy Step questions for donating stock to a qualified charity makes that reporting much more challenging than necessary. You do not need to ask for the date of acquisition nor the cost basis of donated stock UNLESS you have held the stock less than 1 year. Then, your questions are appropriate. Otherwise, a simple yes/no as to whether you have held the stock for more than 1 year is all that's needed. Then, there's the question about whether the donation will be used by the organization to further its mission. How would I, as the donor, know the answer to that question and why does it matter to me, as the donor? Pointless question. I just lie and say Yes. In Easy Step, when you are going through and entering cash donations to charities, you come to a window where you enter the charity’s name, then you click on Cash and then Continue. When Easy Step advances to the next window, it would be very helpful if the cursor would automatically advance to the field where you type in the amount of the donation. The way it is now, you have manually click on the amount field to enter the donation and do that for every separation donation. There’s an error beep if you forget.☹️ Again, in Easy Step, you get to a window with the title Your charities and donations with every charity carried over from last year. Every one of them says NEEDS REVIEW in an orange box. Even after you update the donation for the current year, that message does not go away. The donations that have been edited should no longer have that message visible. Importing information from a financial institution is easy, but the way that it’s dumped into TurboTax is not user friendly. I live in Missouri, where our state income tax requires us to separate all income between spouses, even when filing jointly. It’s cumbersome to have to go back and designate the owner of the income after it’s imported. There should be an easier way to do that.

Good but poor for complicated rental properties

The EasyStep pathway for entering information for a property that is rented-out part-time and used the owner part-time that also ceased to be a rental property after 10 days in January was terrible. Not only did EasyStep come-up with the wrong entries, it also blocked me from overriding many of them on the forms. It has real issues with depreciation and passive activity losses for properties like mine (admittedly, very specialized). I had fewer problems in other years where I did not cease to rent-out the property but found the questions in EasyStep to NOT lead the proper classification of the assets depreciation schedules and various special treatment options (like Section 179 or Special Depreciation). It would have been nice to be able to force in the depreciation schedule and special treatment options via EasyStep with some kind of override.

Has become more complicated to use

You made things more difficult to accomplish this year. I mistakenly chose to import investment info and apparently it interpreted this that I wanted to do it for every investment. And I couldn't figure out how to go back and undo that choice. So to fill in one number (interest) for several small accounts, I had to fight with it to let me just put the number in. These were accounts that I couldn't import the info for because they weren't on the list of choices. Just seemed overly complicated this year. Then when I got to the end and tried to file my forms, it informed me that it couldn't because I needed to update it. Why on earth didn't it tell me that when I first started filling the information to file the forms so that I didn't have to go through that again?

Easiest way to do your tax return

This is the easiest way to get our tax return done. Was also able to do both adult children with simple returns and a state return under the same Turbo Tax account. I used an incorrect ID number when filing and Turbo Tax immediately let me know the return was rejected and what the issue was. Very nice to use year after year and retain the historical information and not have to retype everything in.

impressed

this was extremely easy software to use, the interface was clean and understandable. The general support answered all my questions. There wasnt any feature or functionality that was missing from what I needed in my return. I run on windows and it was 100% compatible which is nice. I am sure the accuracy will be fantastic.
