Not happy with Turbo Tax this year

I have been using Turbo Tax for 15 years and been satisfied with the service. This year was an entirely frustratingly different experience. My return was rejected because Turbo Tax said there was local id information needed but there were no local taxes or id. I was bombarded with solicitations to pay for help throughout the process of entering information. I had the distinct impression that Turbo Tax was creating hurdles that would require me to pay for help. Today I received an IRS notice that my Social Security benefits were not taxed correctly. When researching the problem I noticed that this was a common complaint and was passed off as user error. I think the users were set up for error. This had never been a problem in the past. I'm thinking it's time to find new tax prep software.

Not 5 out 5 for the 1st time ever!

You eliminated some features. For example, when notating the things that are donated to charity is completely different. The Old way (2024 and prior) was much better. Another feature that needs to change is how you've organized the types of numbers needed for deductions. When was the last time you got a bill from the hospital that differentiated between lab fees, room operating fees, doctor fees, and all the other fees hospitals give us. The same about billing when going to my primary care doctor. Why do you ask for it this way. Is it a problem with your software or is it a problem with the IRS??

Works and gets the job done.

I've used Turbo Tax for years so maybe I'm just getting old, but I feel it's just getting more confusing. Costs were very confusing when starting out online. So I bailed and got the desktop version. But then it was still pushing the online version. (I like looking at the forms to see where the numbers are going and I couldn't see that as an option online.) I really wish there was an way to streamline checking if we have enough deductibles with the new higher limit instead of spending all the time needed to enter it all in just to find we are way short. Also, after all this time why can't the state be more like the federal's question and answer? I don't think the program helps much with state taxes unless you know a lot about it already.

Better but not great

Very good at basics. Uneven for more complex case

Over many years of use, many things have improved. Electronic downloads of tax documents work well now, and e-filing works much better. Each year I seem to run into a bug or two that consumes quite a bit of my time, however. This year it was an unexpected number in my state tax return. After spending too much time investigating, I discovered that Turbo-Tax had misinterpreted its download of my 1099-DIV from Charles Schwab. Schwab reported tax-exempt bond dividends in 3 columns: the amount paid in 2025, adjustments for 2025 made in 2026, and the adjusted amounts. TT reported both the pre-adjustment and post-adjustment amounts as if they were separate payments, thus double counting. It made me wonder how many other errors like that there were that I did not discover. TT could also do a much better job of informing users about key limits and thresholds that they should know about to avoid wasting time on useless data entry -- such as medical expense thresholds and AGI limits for various itemized deductions.

turbo tax is awsome

Don't need the expert advice, because turbo tax is very simple, ease of use, it interfaces with my banks and makes transferring information easier and W2 is a breeze to import the information , Also the features are so simple to use and never for 10 years had any audit issues, accuracy and support is the best, why need experts...

Better than in previous years.

I don't like that it asks you every time you start up TurboTax if you want to use the online version or continue on the desktop. I realize there's a Do not show on this notice, but it's unclear whether that will permanently switch you to the online version, which I don't want, or remember your decision to stay on the desktop version. If it didn't have online as the default and instead, gave you the option of going to the online version, if you want to, then I'd feel more comfortable not showing the notice again.

This has sucked for long enough

Been a loyal user for decades. Software is still solid. e-Filing is a joke ... worse its a fraud. I have attempted to use it almost every year only to have it repeatedly crash out ... always after telling me my return was successfully transmitted. What does Successful mean if 2-days later you tell me it didn't go through and was rejected. If you tend to do that in the stretch like I often find mine, the difference in correctly knowing it failed to go through means penalties and interest in addition to the last minute run for more paper/printer ink and the post-office lines. REALLY NEEDS WORK ... A NEW PROCESS. This has sucked for long enough.

Same Old Turbo Tax

Same Old Turbo Tax., No Help with Speical Situatio

No help with Special Situations. I have an Inherited IRA with a basis, which means I'm supposed to file a form 8606. But because Turbo Tax can't handle this situation, I'm forced to use their 8606-S, for spouse. Because I file single, I get about 15 errors during the final review and can't submit electronically. Also, Turbo Tax still can't handle all of the entries in Box 14 for New Jersey. You woudl think a state with as many filers as New Jersey would prompt Turbo Tax to make the necessary changes. But I'm still forced to quess how to handle many of these items.

Turbotax is great

overall ok. I was frustrated on how to report the backdoor roth conversion. Had to spend a lot of time on this. In addition, i had to spend a lot of time on the double tax reporting from sales of NQSOs shown in and also box 12V in W2 and reconciling with 1099-B

turbo tax is still looks predefined software

turbotax need to have a AI capability for users to use turbotax software. I use Gemnini not turbotax instructions during tax return using turbotax desktop software. supposed to use turbotax AI to get info or get answer not using outside AI chatbox like gemini or chatgpt. also turbotax need to allow user to choose the financial institution login in webside address since turbotax does not have the correct login address for some user group like for merrill lynch which has different log in addresses for different user group but turbotax only give one web address so my import not working and talked this representatvie in phone call.
