Worst generation of TurboTax

Have used TurboTax for years. This has been by far my worst experience with the product. This will be thew las year I use this software. This version was so cumbersome and difficult. They would not stop bugging you about using their "new" online version.

Good with some work

Found this year Turbo Tax software more difficult to use than previous years. Mostly had to use MS 2011 and when I saved my return to come back later, it would not bring up my last entries. It starting over again. Had to dig around to find the correct file.

Not as smooth as in the past

I have been using Turbo Tax for many years now probably 20 or more. It has always done a good job and I have been satisfied with it. This year it seem to have a lot of glitches. It wouldn't bring up some of my last year's information and I had to retype everything in. Wouldn't go to the right place on the tax returns I kept having to try over and over again. In the end I was able to complete my taxes but the process was not as smooth as in the past. Hope this was a aberration for this year only.

Brokerage interface N/A

One reason that I use TurboTax is for the ability to download brokerage information; instead of having to load it manually. There was a problem with this feature (2nd year in a row). I was not able to use this feature. Hopefully, this can be fixed going forward.

TT website and auto enroll are absolute trainwreck

I've been using TurboTax to prepare my taxes for as long as taxes were available to be prepared from a PC. I have never had a reason to doubt the accuracy of my return, nor reason to doubt the integrity of the product. The advantage program and overall navigation of the website is brutally poor. The website is geared towards completing your return online and purchasing the upsell of assistance with your taxes. Add in the repeated attempt to upsell the audit defense and I'm so tempted to take another approach to my taxes next year. I am purchasing a license for the preparation of my taxes, I am not using the website and filing for free. Intuit should respect the fact that I'm already spending money for the license and give me the option to purchase assistance and/or audit insurance once, and only once. Not multiple times during the preparation of my taxes. This stuff is stressful enough without feeling like the company that I've already spent money with is trying to find any excuse/method to squeeze another $60 dollars out of me. Add into the frustration of the upsell is the trainwreck of their advantage subscription service. I have an intuit account that reflects that I've purchased some manner of tax prep software from Intuit/TurboTax back to 2018. I've been enrolled in the advantage plan since it was debuted. You get a notification that they will charge you for the product, but never provide you with an activation key, which is required for operation of the program. If it's up against tax time and you are struggling to figure out how to get this important info and purchase another copy of the exact same software, from your logged-in account, there is absolutely nothing that prompts you to activate the copy you've already paid for, it just takes your payment. Should the credit card that is on file for your advantage program expire, you get a handy email that this has happened. When you login to correct this condition, it saves your info, but doesn't necessarily process your payment for the current tax year. When you realize that this has happened and purchase the stand-alone product, your account does not have a valid form of payment on file. Even though that condition was rectified 15 minutes ago! I just really expect a professional software developer/ retailer to have their act together a bit better than this. But, at least they give me 6-8 opportunities to upsell tax advice during the process of filing my taxes!

Horrible Login Cannot Use Product

Why you force customer to make intuit account? You also do not let customer reset password, forcing customer to make a new account with a new email. The customer already paid for your product, just let them file the taxes! No one wants an intuit account

Desktop version is easier than the online version

I tried the online version this year to see what it was like. The ai helps were nice, but it didn't offer the ease of doing all of my family's returns from one account. I switched to the desktop version for my familiy's returns because it was so easy to work with in creating multiple returns. It's too bad the online version doesn't offer that option.

Tedious

Every year it keeps making the same incorrect assumptions and lead me astray in the interview process. It's much better than doing taxes by hand, but it's so tedious to run into the same problems each year. It's also asking a lot of the same questions repeatedly... Stop asking if I want TurboTax State for NH, for example.

Windows 10 support is gone - NOT good!

Removing Windows 10 support was cruel and unnecessary. This of all the people that are still running Windows 10 on older computers not capable of running Windows 11. Many of them will not upgrade but rather will turn to another tax software. Otherwise, it was good as usual.

TurboTax has a bug preventing NY state filing!

When trying to submit my NY State Tax return I hit a TurboTax bug that apparently has been known about for several weeks but no one at TurboTax bothered to fix it. I buy TurboTax to make filing taxes easier, not to be stopped in my tracks with no way forward. This is the error message "1099-R Box 14a for e-filing New York State withholdings can not be greater than or equal to gross distribution or state distribution" but the message is misleading, first because there is no such thing as box 14a, and second because the number in box 14 (not 14a) is NOT greater than the distribution. It turns out the answer is provided in the TurboTax member chat on the website: Copy the value in Box 1 into Box 16 and re-run TurboTax.
