Turbox Can Stand Improvement

I've used this program for more than 20 years. Somehow it is less intuitive than in the past. Also you are informed there are no errors in the review process. Then when you go to e-file you're informed you are missing info. Then you first have to figure out how to correct it. Worst yet, you're asked for info. in a 1099R box that has nothing in it. Seriously?!?!

confising e-file comment

It said my return was not complete when i tried to do the e-file. i could not find what it was talking about. I juct finally hit continue and it asked several questions. such as i needed to sign it, etc. I answered the questions and it lit me e-file. The comment the return was not finished was confusing. it also wanted to e-file a wa state tax return. WA state does not require tax returns. No income tax.

Sure not as good as it used to be...

While the Import feature would seem to be a "handy feature", TT evidently has not worked with the partners to gather all required information. After importing from 2 brokerage firms, I was asked to review 382 entries for incomplete information. I deleted the return and just did manual entry of the 1099-DIV (s)

Turbo Tax is very professional software

I have used Turbo Tax for many years. Very easy to use and follow. I like finishing my taxes getting Turbo Tax review and accuracy checks before submitting electronically . Electronic deposit of my refunds is a good safety feature. Once Federal and State are accepted, I feel I won't have to worry about too much. It gives you a complete cycle for submitting your taxes.

Simple Returns Only

Product works fine for basic tax filing. It does NOT import information from prior year's tax filing which would have been very helpful. It does not cover things like foreign taxes paid. It asks for some information but does not adequately explain what it is asking for or how to enter it correctly. When the check return function is used, it asks for additional info but it does not explain what it needs. Where it asks for information from prior years' returns, it should be importing this info from prior year's Turbo Tax filing.

Capital Gains incorrect for part year resident

Maryland Form 502CG applies a 2% surtax to all capital gains if your FAGI exceeds $350 K. While this is correct for full year residents, it is incorrect for part years residents who received all capital gain in a state other than Maryland. The instructions for 502CG state that 502CG should not be filled out at all if the capital gains were not part of the Maryland adjusted gross income. TurboTax Deluxe fills out 502CG as though all capital gains for the year were earned in Maryland, even if none of the capital gains were part of Maryland adjusted gross income. Krystal at TurboTax tried to help me out with this, but my state Congressional Delegate was able to finally figure this out. I had to manually zero out Line 1 in Form 502CG to fix this. TurboTax should have asked a question about how much of the capital gains income occurred while a resident of Maryland, and no such question was asked.

TurboTax review

I had trouble from Fidelity downloading my data. fidelity should let you know what name should be entered to download the data. Not really turbo Tax problem, but I wish there was an easy way to know what to enter. I had problem with my IP Pin and that was the IRS problem, but I wish turbo tax could look before the people have to deal with a rejected tax form.

Gives a different refund for mail in vs. efile

I don't understand how Turbotax could import my W2, auto-select the classifications used for amounts listed in box 14 on my w2, go through every accuracy check, telling me that my return was 100% accurate with no audit risk, let me start the e-filing process, collect my payment for the e-filing process, and then pop up with a note saying that my return needed review ONLY because I was efiling. It asked me to either correct an error that it suddenly decided was present in my W2 or change my filing method. When I corrected the error that the software created, it REDUCED MY REFUND by $1000. After telling me that the classification was ONLY a problem if I efiled. So the software would have told my return was accurate if I chose to mail it. This makes absolutely no sense. The error that it caught during the last step of efile submission should have been caught at any of the other review steps in the process. I'm extremely disappointed in this software.

1st Class Phone Support

Experienced tax preparer. I did use TTax online help screens. I did require screen sharing help via phone assistance just to get TTax Individual Advantage software to download initially. That was frustrating. Phone assistance was 1st Class. I think it was easier in 2024 to import W2s or 1099s. Had to key data in this year.

Problem importing caused more problems

I found the start up process very unintuitive after entering activation code. The start up screen took me several cycles to finally click on the right thing to starting using the software. Was this to try and upsell other products? The import function did not find my 2024 turbo tax return nor did it provide a way to search my computer for it. I ended up opening my 2024 return which 2025 turbo tax converted and seemed to get the previous years info. However, after entering dividend income I discovered that despite filing Married Filing Jointly, the software did not allow my wife and myself to enter separate income. I checked Personal Info and Turbo Tax advised using Married Filing Jointly (which I already was). After selecting Married Filing Jointly, I had to reenter all personal data and subsequently all income payees that Turbo Tax showed me when I first started using the software. I have never had a problem importing a previous years in all the years I have been using Turbo Tax.
