Turbo Tax is an excellent.

I've been using Turbo Tax to do my taxes for years except for 5 years when my wife had a store front business in which we hired a tax man to do our taxes. Every year I had the tax man do the taxes I found errors upon my review. Also did my father's income taxes with Turbo Tax for about 10 years how had several rental properties to report.

Gave me bad advice.

I've used Turbo Tax for decades an it usually goes smoothly. For some reason in completing my 2025 tax return it recommended it recommended standard deduction in which I owed ~$6500 in Fed taxes. Knowing I am better off itemizing I forced the software to go through an itemized deduction. It then came back saying I owe ~$2500. A $4000 benefit because I did not follow it's original recommendation.

Very hard to Figure- NO CD

I found it difficult to go to each section. Especially difficult finding and filling my 1099-R for my Federal Form. Paying extra for the Federal, State and $60 for something I do not remember authorizing, The program should be available on CD. I found it difficult to add the program on my laptop (second install).

Still Excellent, but I prefer the older versions

I still like TT a lot, and have never had a problem, but some of the recent style or format changes over the past three or four years have made it a less user-friendly program, IMO. I like the way it walked you through the steps about 4 - 5 years ago, vs. the way it does it now, where one has to choose what to work on next. What If I don't know what kind of income a particular document represents? In the TT of a few years ago, it seems like TT guided me through this without me having to select a bubble on a chart to take me there.

Import nightmare

I have used Turbotax for years, this year the mothed used to import tax info from an institution is horrible! The pop up window had eight to twelve human verifications, there was no feed back to say that the import was successful. I had several forms to import, each had to go through the entire verification process. This is not an improvement.

1st Class Phone Support

Experienced tax preparer. I did use TTax online help screens. I did require screen sharing help via phone assistance just to get TTax Individual Advantage software to download initially. That was frustrating. Phone assistance was 1st Class. I think it was easier in 2024 to import W2s or 1099s. Had to key data in this year.

Great except for the DC return section

Most of the steps were very easy to understand, especially with the additional information that you could click on. Federal and Colorado sections were great. The only issue I had was that the DC filing questions were a vague. I specifically didn't understand how to separate our deductions and how Turbo Tax got to the total DC deductions amount. There was almost zero explanation for any of those steps. I ended up having to ask chatGPT to explain it for me. The user interface was very clear and well organized. The refund running total at the top was very helpful, as well as the tabs that allowed me to see where in the process I was working on and to move between sections without having to use the back button.

Going the Wrong Way!

I have been using TurboTax for 20+ years. Seems it gets harder every year. This year it did NOT do automatic updates. Waited until I hit "E-file" and then I get an error message I need to check for updates. This year I had to open the return I was working on instead of it loading automatically. This year you added a password requirement which I didn't need or want and I didn't see a way around it. I had to do imports more than once to get the information to feed onto the return. It's just getting more difficult rather than easier.

Easy As 1-2-3

Very seamless--not brain surgery. I made a few mistakes (not saving my inputs); I lost them and had to enter everything after I was almost done. I thought my taxes were associated with my login information. That is incorrect. I couldn't locate my information until I called customer service. You access your tax information by clicking on the red check mark icon. That isn't stated anywhere.

Product could be improved

I have been using Turbo-Tax software for a couple of decades. It is very useful but each year there have been glitches that could be fixed for the future but rarely are. For example, the interest on US Government Securities portion of mutual funds have always been reported as a percentage (BY T. Rowe Price, Fidelity, Schwab etc..), Turbo tax wants it to be entered as a dollar amount, necessitating calculations outside the software. Other tax software, such as H&R Block, do ask for the information as a percentage--making it straight forward to enter the data. Another issue this year, was that TT wanted us to file our State Taxes by paper --since our individual filing status for the state was different. We needed to prepare two Mock Federal returns etc--which is fine. Finally for printing and filing, TT was not clear about which Federal return to attach. The built in help was also not useful. A google search gave the answer. Another case of internal inconsistency was that--although TT insisted that we file the state taxes by paper, at later stages it kept asking whether we wanted to e-file. Even now the final file looks incomplete since there was no way to indicate that the paper copies have already been filed for the state....
