TurboTax is not allowing me to file my state taxes by mail. It seems to be intentionally forcing me to efile so I will have to pay the fee for efiling. I have been using TurboTax for decades (originally using Parsons tax software). Based on its operation this year, I think it is time to make a change.

Where to include my Qualified Charitable Donation of my 2025 RMD from a traditional IRA was difficult to find when filling out my 2025 Federal 1040 since it was not under Deductions and Credits in Turbo TAx (at least I didn't find it there). It would help seniors over 73if you include a notation in your Deductions Section which gives a link to where in the TurboTax software and the line on the IRS form where this tax exemption information should be entered. I didn't find anywhere to enter the identity and tax iID nformation for the non-profit that received my donation, so won't be surprised if the IRS requests this information.

I initially entered info on dividends, then the program asked for IRA info which had the dividends so my income was two times and TurboTax didn't flag it. I manually set all boxes to zero or blanks on the non-IRA dividends section. The program insisted, at the end, to enter the TID number even though all fields were zero or blank. Recommend telling users to not enter dividend info if it is from an IRA.

I've been using TT since 1996. This year it was a real nuisance. I've been trying to get rid of the DO NOT FILE WATERMARK, and as of February 22, 2026, with my TT Deluxe desktop software up to date, the1040 ES forms still have the watermark. I'm sure I can get them elsewhere, but there's a principle here. I'm strongly considering using other software next year.

Turbotax is not doing a very good job on the MN property tax form. It is too complicated. It used to be quite easy in the past. I am considering changing SW next year because the MN property tax form has been a mess the past few years. You need to ask each field separately not display a small form to fill out.

Worked well but you need to make filing via us mail easier. Not all state returns require efile, and GA allows us to mail our return in a return if nothing is owed. Once I chose efile I could not go back to change it Perhaps under each filing, use check boxes for method of filing, choices could be efile and file via us mail. then based on choice, TT could go down that flow path.

It is a great product. I have used it for many years. The only thing I had a problem with was getting it installed on my computer. I spent over 2 hours with a representative to get it to work. It all seemed so easy before. Wish it worked that way again.

Was offered the on-line version for free with bonus of free state filing. However, on-line interface was very confusing and clunky. Ended up using the tried and true method of the desktop version. Did not like the import tax form feature like done in past as it created new entries and did not link to previous years 1099 forms so I could not historical notes and year-to-year amounts. Ended up manually typing in values and amounts. Did not like the additional secret cost of $45 to e-file Federal and deduct state filing cost from Federal Tax Return, since I "upgraded to Premium Service???". Ended up just paying using credit and avoiding the additional fee.

It's better than some other tax softwares, but not much. TT claims to make things easier, but they are almost as confusing as the actual tax docs from the IRS. And if you click the wrong thing, well you get to start all over again. At least that was mine and a coworkers experience with TT customer service team. It's better than some others but not much. Annoying interface. It's distracting and a bit misleading. Can cause user errors. Also, I don't like that I must have a TurboTax account to create my tax return. I don't want TurboTax to keep my personal and financial data on file so they can sell it or share with others like Rocket Mortgage.
