Worth The Money

Have been using TT for quite a number of years now. When I first started, both the wife and I were working and we were dealing with 2 incomes plus all the financial info associated with that. Everything associated with our financials was clearly addressed/handled by the TurboTax program and the e-filing option made it simple to file and pay any taxes due or receive any refunds due. Any questions we had were always clearly addressed by TurboTax's robust and detailed "Help" section. We are now both retired and our income situation is much more simplified, but we still use TurboTax due to it's efficiency and ease of use.

Good as Usual with Need for Clarification

To match a tax accountant's help in preparation ..... asking questions outside of routine that may apply to the average TT, that the average TT user might never think would apply to them. I bought a house in '25 and sold the primary '25 residence in March '26. That issue was not brought up clearly in doing the return. The new house (MI) looked like the primary residence in the return and had to find and add the real primary residence (PA) taxes to the return. Even though the primary residence address for '25 (PA) is listed on the return it was the new address treated as primary. That confusion should have been eliminated with a series of questions.

Ease of use improvements

It was mostly fine, but there are things that can be better. For example, some of the obscure income and deductions should already be filled out. For example, some of the deductions are based on income. If the income is over a certain amount, they aren't valid. These should be "locked out" because the income information has already been filled out. When you go through them, you end up finding out that yo don't qualify. It is a waste of time that can be avoided if the software was smart enough to handle those situations.

Investment Download Guidance Needed

During the process of downloading information from investment companies, a screen came up that the connection had been made. There was nothing on that screen to tell me what to do next. I called customer service, and Ralph told me to just click on the Turbo Tax icon in the task bar and it would go to a screen that showed that the download had been completed. It would have been helpful if that instruction appeared on the screen that said the connection had been made.

Some problems.

Whereas in years past the TT desktop software ran easily and smoothly. This year we were completely bogged down and encountered problems. Thank goodness for The Live Help. We consulted with Sarah R and would not have been able to complete this year's taxes without her. Thank you very much Sarah.

Tax Filing Process Should Not Follow Politics

I am extremely disappointed in most of the changes that I have found this year. I have been a customer since 1997 and if my tax experience has to become a political support mechanism, this will be my last year. I also cannot, for the life of me, understand the removal of the one thing that made charitable giving documentation less painful and mysterious. In these many years, that is the stupidest decision I have seen you implement. Several of my friends are already seeking alternate software for next year. Boo!

Not Improved ... more advertisements....

I have used Turbo Tax for years...this year seems to have less understandable help and guidance. The pop-up 'Helps' are not useful. Just a list of items with no "help" . Also why are these in such a tiny font.? Throwing you to the forms to try to figure out what is wrong is terrible since you only see part of form that is wrong and do not know why. The additions or enhancements to Turbo tax seem to be more pop-ups and suggestions that you should spend more to get answers from Turbo Tax Experts.

Reviewing forms

I am generally happy with Turbotax. My one complaint is that one cannot easily look at completed or partially completed forms until you are at the review and file stage. I think it would be nice if a user could at various points ask to look at form 1040, or schedule A or D or whatever. Thanks

why is one required

Confusing this year

I found this years confusing. I struggled with the Medical part. When you turn 65 thru part of a year it needs to be a drop down whether this causes a problem or penalty. If I didn't have to use Cov Ca all year I should not be penalized the cost all year or even based on a full year income. That part was hard to understand. Property taxes also most pay a year but it is over a 2 year period. Like July 25 to July 26, yet your instructions don't address that like should I divide in half? Then also I do my mom's returns and since she never owes happy to use Efile, i do not want to efile State since cost $25 for no refund is stupid. I click free efile for feds but then it talks about cost for state and I am afraid if I click yes for efile feds I am going to get stuck paying to efile state when I do not want to. Clear that part up with options to efile only one.

Audit coverage

I went to sign up for the free audit coverage but the part of the screen at the bottom where it shows to submit, or next, or whatever doesn't show. It is too far down and I can't see it. Therefore I could not submit. And verification of address, phone had the same problem. It was not a matter of scrolling down.
