I have successfully used Turbo Tax for many years, but not this year. I had problems with Turbo Tax accepting my IRA information regarding my RMD. I appeared that other people were having the same problem. Based on information from "Help" sources I was able to fudge my input to get Turbo Tax to accept my data. IRA RMD calculations are a simple problem. I'm not doing that again. I'll be deciding if I will continue to use Turbo Tax in the future.

I was going to use the on-line version. However, it did not transfer all the data from my previous years returns. I would have to enter all the info from my various accounts, i.e. addresses, TINs, acc #s, etc. So, it was easier to switch back to the desktop version. If you are going to offer an on-line version there should be an option to transfer from previous desktop versions, ran into two problems with the the desktop version. First, after importing my data from Schwab, there was no way to return to my return from the import success screen. I finally had to enter the data manually. Second, at the end of the income section I was asked if I had any digital currency transactions. I replied Yes and hit continue, but the program then just went into the Deductions portion. No way to enter my transaction. It took a lot of digging to find how to enter the Form 1099-DA info as it was well hidden in the Wages and Income drop down.

I have been a faithful user of Turbo Tax for more than ten years - in the past I was a huge fan of the product - its simplicity, its accuracy, its ease of guiding me through the entire process of filling my Federal & state taxes each year was top notch - since the changes that made the product no longer available on a disc that could be loaded onto my computer, and required me to use it as an online product, I have experienced nothing but problems - maybe because I don't understand all the intricacies of using the product, maybe because of slow wifi, or slow internet or whatever, I do not know why; but all I do know is I have problems now that I never experienced in the past, and therefore the product "quality" has dropped significantly in my view - in fact for the first time since I began using Turbo Tax, this year I looked for an alternative product that may be more "user friendly" to me.

I had a BIG problem with TurboTax this year because when I started my return and then logged out to get information, it refused to relaunch which meant I had to delete the file and start all over again. Very annoying, although I saw on some online message pages that many people were having the same problem. I've been using TurboTax for years and never encountered this problem so I was very disappointed.

The multi-state filing process needs to be simplified for gambling winnings. It is common to live in one state and have gambling winnings from another, non-reciprocal state. Currently, you have to do the non-resident state first. That forces you to buy your resident state. Even then, Turbo Tax is not recognizing both states the way it should. My case is Illinois and Indiana. The Schedule CR is not being created for Taxes Paid to Another State. I have to manually make them coordinate. That reduces the integrity of the Turbo Tax product guarantee. The price keeps going up but the product integrity is not keeping pace. Turbo Tax is still my preferred, but there is stiff competition available and cheaper.

Everything was fine until I e-filed my federal tax return then returned to the app and updated the federal return with medical deductions and charitable contributions that would impact my state return but not the federal. When I tried to e-file my state return it was rejected because I chose not to e-file my federal return again. So the bottom line is that there isn't anyway to refuse to file the federal return. So now I've e-filed federal twice.

The Federal portion was fine. The State (Mississippi) portion needs some work. There were a number of sections that were not very clear about what was needed. For example, it trying to ask me for income earned from two investments - both of which were the same one with a slightly different name. It took a while to find how to delete one of them. There were others, but I don't remember now what they were. Unfortunately, I didn't keep notes on that which I know isn't much help. Sorry.

I am very angry that once again I got charged the $45 for the Audit Defense. I did not select this and it still came out and charged us again. This has happened many times over the years, there have been some years that it didn't come up by default but most times it does.

There are some things that aren't explained very well. I had to go to AI for answers. Other than that it's great. It finds last year's info. and inserts it. It reviews and asks for added information. (this is where I wasn't sure at first what to fill in). It shows what we put in last year so it's hard to miss anything. It does all the math so I don't have to. I've used TurboTax for years and really appreciate it knowing what forms I need to fill out.

After using Turbo Tax Deluxe-Desktop for several years, I believe doing my taxes this year was easier then ever before with additional questions or statements clarifying areas that I might make a mistake in, making me more aware of each area that made me feel more comfortable then all the years I have been doing my own taxes with Turbo Tax. Thank you for continuing to put out a better product each year. In my opinion Turbo Tax is simple and accurate to put in my own data and file electronically each year. Thank you Turbo Tax.
