I love TT and have been. using it for several years. It seems like this year you were pushing a LOT of different options and add-ons, like doing it online rather than desktop, getting live help, etc. You have to realize that that just overly complicates an already complicated process. The screens, especially the opening screen, look much "busier" than they need to be. Make the options very simple and straightforward. Also realize that a lot of your users are seniors who like to stick to what they already know. For them you should make what they already know EASIER to use. One other thing... as I was transmitting, the program crashed. It just kept spinning on "transmitting," and I was kinda freaking out. Wasn't very easy to locate a support person quickly. Make that phone number EASY TO FIND for emergencies. Turned out that it wasn't really a big deal, but for a little while I was really worried about what was happening. Daniel was very helpful. Might help to put up a list of common situations, like what to do if the program stops responding while transmitting.

We have used TurboTax for years and now our adult Children use it as well! It i easy to understand and gets us the biggest refunds each and every time! Highly recommend it as it is easy to use and you will get the biggest refund without spending an arm and a leg!

I purchased the desktop version and had to log in several times to turbotax before I was given the opportunity to enter my authentication code for the desktop version. Prior to that, when I logged in I was practically forced to choose an online filing method at turbotax to do my taxes even though it would have cost me more because I do not qualify to use the free version of turbotax online. Also, I had difficulty fully exempting my NYS pension on turbotax, but I finally figured it out.

make the best way to file (standard deduction vs itemizing) more obvious. when I clicked to find the most deductions, you didn't even offer that I would pay only 1/3 of the taxes the standaard deduct would allow. Why? I had already put in all of my deductions. And you automatically chose automatic deduction ...I had a hard time finding the slide to change to itemizing. too obscure. Also, some of the explanations (highlighted ) revealed no information. What? Why?!

Everything was good except for a NYS inflation refund check which caused a 1099-G form. There was no way to add this form without calling it a business income and requiring me to create a business in TurboTax. It was a small amount so I just ignored it but there must be some way to record it as other income. Apparently you can't do that with a 1099-G. I didn't see any way out of this one.

I've used Turbo Tax (TT) for 20 years and have really liked it. This year, TT took a step back due to the new interface for entering investment data (1099-INTs, 1099-DIVs, 1099-Bs). In my case, my wife and I both have our own investment accounts so I'm switching accounts often. However, many of the new screens don't have account numbers on them. I was often confused as to which account I was working on. This confusion led me to accidentally enter my capital gains twice, which caused a large increase in my Federal Tax Due. Fortunately, I saw and corrected the error. I used to develop software for a large company. Your new interface is poorly designed. I recommend that you rip it out and go back to the previous interface. TT has added a number of marketing messages: offers of various professional services to help you do your taxes, offers to upgrade TT to a higher-level product. Whoever is in charge of TT needs to understand that maintaining its quality and ease of use are most important for maintaining its market share.

This product gets a little more difficult each year. Explanations are minimal and movement between "forms" is often illogical. Product could be improved by allowing "standard deduction" as a choice before requiring all deduction information. I think I'm not alone in needing securities forms - which requires this version - but never having enough deductions to to override using the standard deduction. Also, if you move to a web based only product ( which it appears you are trying to do ) you will lose a long time customer.

I am generally happy with Turbotax. My one complaint is that one cannot easily look at completed or partially completed forms until you are at the review and file stage. I think it would be nice if a user could at various points ask to look at form 1040, or schedule A or D or whatever. Thanks

I have used Turbo Tax for at least 20 years. I usually rave about how intuitive it is to use; not so much this year. i did not like opening a form for the first time and seeing error messages because I did not enter any data yet; duh. There were several times when I thought "what's next" or why did I get that message". I never had those problems in prior years.

The hidden $40 processing fee for federal tax processing fee is a scam. There is no information given on the page that covers charges and fees. It is not charged to you if you pay with a credit card as opposed to paying from your federal return. Why is that information not provided? It seems that it is intentionally set up that way to trick people into paying a unneccisary $40 fee that is completely avoidable. Luckily, I was able to google this information from reviews and frequently asked questions from other customers. That information is not provided anywhere in the software that was paid for that advertizes free federal filing.
