Need more info

I have been doing my taxes by hand for over 50 years and was talked into using TurboTax this year. I gave the software a 3 rating because all of the calculations were hidden. I like to see how and what forms are used to get the results shown on the pages and forms displayed on the screen. Also a better explanation of the data requested as input is needed in the guidance section. A number of small items that seem to require much repeated input or reviewing.

Glitchy Program This 2025 Tax Year

I have been using TurboTax software on my desktop, now laptop, computer since 1996! It was always reliable and easy to use EVERY YEAR! Over the years I've had to file simple and very complicated tax returns and TurboTax handled it all. Until this year. I downloaded the 2025 tax year TurboTax program and it was incredibly "glitchy". I kept having to restart the computer when it got "stuck". Then I had to uninstall and re-install to escape from a State Tax loop, then when I got it going for my state, it wouldn't accept a credit card to pay the $25 fee for electronic filing. The program froze with an error message to keep trying again, and I did several times. Finally I gave up and printed my State return to file by mail. I'm so disappointed in the program this year! I'll try again next year, but please fix the problems. Thank you for such good service and product over the years before this!!

Had difficulty this year with Turbo Tax.

Had a lot of difficulty with 2025 than I did with my previous turbo tax years. I don't know why but I am going to see help next year with a private company that does income tax returns. Your Turbo tax was telling me I had a lot of problem errors and to go over them which I did and did not understand. No more of this.

TT website and auto enroll are absolute trainwreck

I've been using TurboTax to prepare my taxes for as long as taxes were available to be prepared from a PC. I have never had a reason to doubt the accuracy of my return, nor reason to doubt the integrity of the product. The advantage program and overall navigation of the website is brutally poor. The website is geared towards completing your return online and purchasing the upsell of assistance with your taxes. Add in the repeated attempt to upsell the audit defense and I'm so tempted to take another approach to my taxes next year. I am purchasing a license for the preparation of my taxes, I am not using the website and filing for free. Intuit should respect the fact that I'm already spending money for the license and give me the option to purchase assistance and/or audit insurance once, and only once. Not multiple times during the preparation of my taxes. This stuff is stressful enough without feeling like the company that I've already spent money with is trying to find any excuse/method to squeeze another $60 dollars out of me. Add into the frustration of the upsell is the trainwreck of their advantage subscription service. I have an intuit account that reflects that I've purchased some manner of tax prep software from Intuit/TurboTax back to 2018. I've been enrolled in the advantage plan since it was debuted. You get a notification that they will charge you for the product, but never provide you with an activation key, which is required for operation of the program. If it's up against tax time and you are struggling to figure out how to get this important info and purchase another copy of the exact same software, from your logged-in account, there is absolutely nothing that prompts you to activate the copy you've already paid for, it just takes your payment. Should the credit card that is on file for your advantage program expire, you get a handy email that this has happened. When you login to correct this condition, it saves your info, but doesn't necessarily process your payment for the current tax year. When you realize that this has happened and purchase the stand-alone product, your account does not have a valid form of payment on file. Even though that condition was rectified 15 minutes ago! I just really expect a professional software developer/ retailer to have their act together a bit better than this. But, at least they give me 6-8 opportunities to upsell tax advice during the process of filing my taxes!

Still works, but some frustrations ...

1. I was frustrated to find that TurboTax 2025 Desktop requires Windows 11. 2. In determining Estimated Tax payments for 2026, I couldn't believe that TurboTax had moved away from the previous screens that showed 2025 amounts next to the fields to enter 2026 amounts. My first run-through I totally overlooked the "Other income" box hiding in the middle of a bunch of things that didn't apply to me, so TTax told me I would owe no California tax in 2026 (actual case about $2000 as non-resident). Seeing the corresponding 2025 amount would have clued me in right away. 3. When entering 1099s, etc., please don't waste a screen trying to have me import my data. Just put the Import as an option on the page with the fields to fill in. It's annoying to have to skip the import for each 1099. 4. Also, I'm hearing that you might be considering discontinuing the Desktop version. If you do, I will be heading to an alternative that continues Desktop support. I do NOT want my financial data sitting in the cloud.

Turbo Tax would not e-file my state return

Your software would not allow me to pay for my state e-file. I spent a total of 3 hurs on the phone and screen share with 2 support people (who were great bu limited). ENd the endte ecommendaiton was for me to mail in my return? Is this what i paid over $70 for? I don't think so. Please fix your bugs.

Product has Lost Accuracy and Usefulness

I have had a good experience using the Turbo Tax product in past years. Once I got it downloaded (the website is always difficult to navigate and find my purchased product subscription) it always worked well. This year the experience was significantly degraded. 1. The loss of the "It's Deductible" tool is unacceptable. Frankly, it has been a big reason for my use of TurboTax in the past and the fact that it is discontinued will cause me to now do some comparison shopping. Secondly, the downloads of my 1099-R forms from Fidelity were missing a lot of information (address, city, state, zip code) and in some cases populated in Turbo Tax with my name rather than my husband's name. This necessitated a significant amount of review and correction. Third, the product required me to input charity addresses in some cases, even when the donations were less than $500. There was no rhyme or reason to this issue. Finally, it did not seem that the information drop downs were as informative this year as they have been in the past. E.g., I did not receive a 1099G from the state for my refund from last year because I used the standard deduction for my state return. TurboTax took me through a goat rope of questions before determining it was not a taxable refund, but never asked if I used a standard deduction on my STATE taxes. I also do not understand why you made me confirm at least three times that I did not want to use the on-line version. What is the deal with that?? Why would I want all of my tax information out there for access. It's nerve wracking enough to mail via the post office or submit on line. I do not understand why TurboTax/Intuit would push so hard for that. Overall, the product is just less satisfactory than in prior years, and I have been using TurboTax forever.

Desktop version is easier than the online version

I tried the online version this year to see what it was like. The ai helps were nice, but it didn't offer the ease of doing all of my family's returns from one account. I switched to the desktop version for my familiy's returns because it was so easy to work with in creating multiple returns. It's too bad the online version doesn't offer that option.

Manual research needed to complete Form 3800

TurboTax required me to spend lots of time with Form 3800 which should have been automatically entered either from last year's carryover info or this year's K-1 forms.

TurboTax has some flaws that need review

Two of the returns filed through TurboTax were reviewed and determined incorrect. IRS adjusted the return amount. I cannot determine where the flaw is in TurboTax.
