Sliding into money grab territory.

Not as intuitive and more difficult navigation than prior years. I think the tax rules that Intuit lobbies so hard for may have started to flummox their coders. Way too many pitches to add this or that additional cost service. Updates do not install seamlessly. Sometimes TT just shuts down without updating. Sometimes it updates and shuts down. Rarely does it it update and restart. I also had an issue with downloading a 1099 from a financial institution that has worked fine for years. Might be them, but TT doesn't give you any guidance on how to handle the situation. Like most products these days, seems to be a case of 'provide the minimum, charge the maximum'.

Reliable product still needs some improvements.

Help function has deteriorated in recent years. Where context-specific help used to be available with a mouse click, now TT generally refers me to IRS standard publication or fellow users. The function for claiming tax credits for energy improvements is murky and lacking guidance as to which branch of the logic chart I should use to record a specific improvement. Documentation for state returns (in this case, Pennsylvania) is much less complete than documentation for federal tax returns. That has been the case for all of the 20+ years I've used TT. I understand why, but it's annoying. Overall, TT is still a solid piece of software, and I have used it exclusively to prepare my taxes for many years. However, Intuit needs to shore up their help function and supporting documentation.

Number of State filings should be same as Federal

When you allow upto x number of efilings for Federal you should also allow x number of state filings instead of only one. Now we have to make you do the State return, take option not to file it, then copy the numbers in the State return to the State Tax filing site to avoid the exorbitant efiling fee. Think about how many people will appreciate this.

Great software, but some confusing implementations

I have used TurboTax for many years. This year I found the sections dealing with Income, Interest and Dividends to be confusing - when you select to work on Dividends, i displays all the 1099-INT forms as well. Was confusing because I initially thought that I had inadvertently entered my 1099INTs as 1099DIVs, and started to delete them. Why have separate buttons for INT and DIV if they both go to the same place??? If I select to work on DIV, please only show 1099DIVs!

Using standard deduction

I've used Turbotax since 2004 so generally, I'm pleased with the product. However. In doing my taxes presently. I get to the place where I've entered all my income, I know that I'm going to be better off using a standard deduction, \but TurboTax does not give me an option of choosing standard deduction. at that point. One must go through all of the deductions and and then finally it tells me to use the standard deduction because it's better for me. That is a problem for me as it takes time that is wasted..

TurboTax is awesome!

TurboTax was easy to follow and provided excellent information/answers to questions that I had during the process. I called for help with a specific question about the formatting of a special form. I spoke with Cathy on the helpline; she was outstanding leading me to the correctly formatted page. Thanks to the TurboTax Team I am confident that my tax E-file is correct.

State return error

Turbo Tax did not execute State Return correctly. Schedule 1 Addition/Subtractions properly stated in line 25 the oldest tax filer born between 1946 and 1952 should have NO entry on lines 26,27,or 28 Turbo tax entered a value on line 27 incorrectly and forced the filer to file with a hand entered return mailed in. Turbo Tax did NOT allow manual override.

It is OK.

The format was not always easy to follow. I did not need some of the forms and needed others. Not easy to determine how to use the ones I needed and discard those that I did not. I much preferred last year's format!!! Not easy to print single documents.

Turbotax tries to sneak in an extra $45 fee!

Twice this year, on two different occasions, Turbotax tried to sneak in an extra $45 fee as I was getting ready to pay to efile my state tax return. If you accept their suggestion to pay by deducting the $25 efile fee, Turbotax automatically adds in a "Premium Service" which tacks on the $45 fee!! You have to go back and look real closely to see that you can skip this "Premium Service" and the $45 fee simply by paying with a credit card. This sneaky fee is not a good look for Turbotax!!
