Unnecessarily Frustrating

There is always something. Most years an error pops up and says Line xx needs information. However the pop-up gives mo information as o what is needed on what form for what reason! That did not happen this year (yay!). Instead, it played games at filing time. I chose e-filing for Federal, but chose not to e-file state since paying $25 to get a $50 return more quickly is silly. The app gave no option for printing the state return! After multiple cycles back thru it, and checking on the Help web pages, I found no answer. Finally I backed up and said I was going to file my FEDERAL by mail. That finally got me a prompt to print my State for filing by mail! Why hide it?

Getting Worse to Use

TurboTax is getting worse to use. ADVERTISED AS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 10 !!! I HAD TO BUY A NEW LAPTOP IN ORDER TO USE TT ! Entering 1099 info is difficult. No list of accounts from previous year. Hard to get to, find account/type is not intuitive. When skipping importing it is not clear how to proceed to enter interest/dividend info. How to find the account you want to enter the 1099 info for. There is a button or box at the end of a section that needs to be pressed to proceed (to enter another account or more info?), but it doesn't show on the screen. There's no guidance or hint to scroll to the bottom of the page to get to it.

Install and reinstall issues

I have always used TurboTax in past years and mostly would of had a five star reviews. I can't say that this year. I have to install and un-install the your program 2 times to get the federal tax part to work. Then I had to un-install and reinstall for a third time to get the state tax part to work properly. After all of this trouble, the program did seem to work for me.

Ex TurboTax Deluxe user

The Desktop Deluxe version of TurboTax is constantly is trying to up sell me at every stage of the tax filing process. I have been using the Desktop version since the 90's, now it is full of advertising and up-selling me to add services and products I don't want or need to do my taxes. I have had it with this product!! Not recommended!

TurboTax charges

I was filing my granddaughter's tax return, which had a state (Minnesota) return. I purchased the Turbo Tax program at a local retail store with a $10 rebate for filing my taxes and one free state tax return. When I went to e-file her return (before filing my own return) not only did charge $25 for the Minnesota state return, it applied my rebate, resulting in a $15 charge placed against her refund.

Way too expensive. The IRS should provide this.

The IRS could--and should--do a better job than these monopolizing tax filing companies with huge lobbying budgets. $25 to e-file? I have to file in 2 states and it's much cheaper to print them out and mail them--because of the near-monopoly. It's more expensive for my state this way. It's absurd. Come on, Congress.

Do Better

2025 Deluxe downloaded to Mac is the worst version of Turbotax ever. Not intuitive or user-friendly. Too many unknowns as we attempted to complete the process step-by-step. It took us approximately 4 hours to complete taxes with only standard deduction, one W2 and 2 1099s, and mortgage data. Too long.

More Ads and Less User Friendly

I use Turbo Tax because I have used it for years. I feel like the in app ads get worse every year. Several prompts to try to get me to upgrade or add on services during the process. I paid for the product I needed, I don't want more ads from you during the process. It also seems less reliable than before and doesn't seem like it wants the lowest assessment automatically. At one point it assessed a penalty and then asked if I wanted to do more work to see if it applied. Then it asked me to enter information from last years return to determine it should not be assessed. WHY? I used Turbo Tax last year, I imported the file at the start of the return, the application had everything it needed to make the right choice without me having to look up and manually enter my info from last year. Also, you need better feedback when external imports fail. When attempting to bring in information, it kept telling me to check my login info. Finally I went to the institution and figured out that I needed to enable third party sharing on that side. It would have been useful if the error message said "If you are certain you entered your information correctly, check your account settings to ensure third party data sharing has been enabled." Additionally, the same section does not make it easy to link multiple forms (like 1099-INT and 1099-DIV to a single source when entering them manually. It only lets you select one and says it will ask you about the others later, but it doesn't and then if you try to enter them as an "add" it doesn't let you pick the previously entered entity. I feel like the product is not as reliable as it used to be.

Not Happy

So Far this has been the worst copy of turbo tax I have purchased (and I've been using it a long time) -- First thing that I hit was NO 1099-B available. I have 3 entries from my broker that go on a 1099-B and you want it on a Schedule D ... that's why I buy turbo tax every year, so I don't have to mess with forms like Schedule D. Next Problem I ran into was no ability to print my return. When I tell it to print I expect it to print not make a PDF out of my tax return. which does not print the return either. Stop trying to improve something that's not broken because somebody had an idea. -- Retired IT Infrastructure Engineer for a major corporation

1099-R problems still not fixed!

Turbo Tax doesn't allow 1099-R documents that are uploaded with boxes 9a and 16 blank to be accepted if blank, even though the IRS doesn't require them. It was a problem last year, an I forgot about it. I thought it would be fixed for this year, but it's still a problem. Evidently Intuit doesn't listen to feedback. I'll investigate if it's corrected next year before purchasing Turbo Tax again. May be worth starting from scratch with different software (HR Block) to avoid the problems.
