Additional Information Required

A note should have been added to the area where you select e-filing both Federal and State about having to pay an additional $40 fee if you choose to "pay State e-file fee out of Federal return amount". The only a person could find out how to avoid the $40 fee was by asking Google. This needs to be fixed so others know about the extra fee before making the choice between paying the e-file fee by credit card or out of their Federal return. I figured out a way to avoid it on my own, but now know what causes the fee because a friend asked Google!!!

IP PIN wrong turn

The process of adding the personal IP PIN number from the IRS is NOT well covered in the software's guidance. I went through the trouble to find it from the IRS before I began doing the taxes with TurboTax. I expected that at the appropriate time (getting ready to do the e-file) there would be guidance from the software to take me to a prompt and allow the opportunity to input the IP PIN. That didn't happen. It took the IRS to reject the return first before I knew that there was a problem, then had to trouble shoot how to fix it. That should not have had to happen. Fix it.

TurboTax changes

I did not like that changes that were made with the state tax function. I use to be able to input my estimated payments in the interview. This year, that was not there. I had to go to forms and find it. Also, the program used to store my bank info instead of me having to type it in twice. It did not do that this year. Frustrating changes!

For Over 40 years, the Best Tax Tool Available

Been using TurboTax for decades, literally - since 1984 It continues to be accurate, with great guidance through the steps. It has covered my taxes through business ownership, straight employment, contracted consulting and now retirement (and Pickleball Coaching earnings). It guides you through everything you could ever need, and online help, including live-person assistance is available. Easily imports my data from last year, and reminds me of past income and deductions so I do not miss a thing. TurboTax is the best!

Had difficulty this year with Turbo Tax.

Had a lot of difficulty with 2025 than I did with my previous turbo tax years. I don't know why but I am going to see help next year with a private company that does income tax returns. Your Turbo tax was telling me I had a lot of problem errors and to go over them which I did and did not understand. No more of this.

College Savings Account Issue

I've been using Turbo Tax for years. When you report distributions from 529 college accounts, in prior years it asked you not only to enter tuition payments but also other legitimate expenses such as room & board. This year, other than tuition there were NO fields to enter room & board costs. As a result, the program assumed that anything other than tuition costs was money that the parents just pocketed for themselves -- which, of course, raises your federal & state taxes. Since we have 2 kids in college, the extra amount we would have paid federal taxes alone was close to $3000! This is UNACCEPTABLE. I Googled this issue, and I found that others had encountered the same problem. Fortunately, for desktop users, there was a workaround by going into the forms and over-riding amounts there. Nevertheless, new TurboTax users or users who have requested disbursements from college savings accounts for the first time would easily miss this issue, resulting overpaying federal & state taxes by hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Again, that is UNACCEPTABLE.

Turbo Tax is great, except for inputting IP-pins.

I had problems with Turbo Tax treatment of 1099-DIV. It put foreign tax paid into different categores - one was on schedule A and the other was subtracted from tax. Non-exempt muni bonds were also treated differently - I had to call Turbo tax to be told how to re-enter the data. My biggest complaint is that my returns were rejected by IRS because I didn't have the right IP-pin. I had to go online to the IRS to get our IP-pins, then had to figure out where to put them in the return. Easy step should have led me to the IP-pin selection.

No ASD entry in step-by-step; data transfer errors

Turbotax was lousy for me this year: it would NOT Add Supporting Details in step-by-step mode. Required workaround of switching to forms mode to put in ASDs. Social security info was transfer incorrectly into "Earlier Year Lump-Sum Social Security Worksheet". Spousal data went into taxpayer column and caused error which took great effort to find and fix the problem.

Long Time User

I had trouble with the desktop install. It had to do with signing in to my Intuit account. None of the options wanted to do anything, and I had to restart my install process. Also, I had trouble getting last year's taxable Social Security info correctly on the form. It kept not liking what I thought was the answer. I think that was more my thick head, not understanding the forms instructions and Turbo Tax error wasn't helpful but I finally got it corrected and was then able to efille ok. Sometimes the Guidance was redundant or not intuative to what I had entered. Seems like there was no problem with accuracy.

Glad to be done! Thanks for the help!

Had my returns completed except for one area. Software froze and I had a spinning wheel that would not go away. had to reboot computer to get TT working again. Not a big problem except that i had not saved my file and when I rebooted, i had a blank file and had to start over. took an additional 3 1/2 hours to do. But still easier than filing manually. Great program other than the glitch. Was this user or software error? LOL
