Turbo Tax is mostly good

would not let me file state taxes due to error "Form 1099 -R (institution name) Box 14a for electronic filing, NYS withholdings cannot be greater than or equal to gross distribution or state distribution". the internet chatter said to place the value of box 2a into box 16 if boxes 1 and 2a are of same value. Maybe turbo tax should be fixed to prevent this since it's apparently been happening for years. also it stinks that they got rid of the It's Deductible.

TurboTax Installation issues

I have used Turbotax for last several years without any issues. However, this year my experience in installing the software on my Windows PC was a nightmare. I kept getting error messages asking me to switch user, without giving anymore real info to solve the problem. The few suggestions were useless. After wasting a lot of time, I had to install the software on another PC and it worked.

Needs work

I have used Turbo Tax for many years now. However, this year has been a disappointment. problems with forgetting the IP PIN. now it looks like I have to mail in paper documents. Download from my financial group did not work, requiring a call to your help desk. ( they were helpful) Overall things did not flow well.

Some problems

FTC not included on return cover Summary's total tax. Could not remove another (unneeded) state return. It arrived here because my 100% residency in one state was mishandled by TTax. Poor programming on form listing our pensions. Moving amounts from one of us (error) to the other does not edit properly. Had to delete each entry and re-enter it in the correct. Intuit -TTax is very late getting the program ready for customers. Updating frequently during the tax prep season is poor management and/or limited staffing.

HOT MESS! Missed prompts and incomplete transfer.

did not prompt for marketplace insurance, so missed and tax rejected. Download of some formes (1099_) through a website/login only downloaded ½ of h 7 1099's making it a hot mess to clean up for accuracy. Each year seems worse than the last. Not putting much into the desktop version anymore.

As usual, Turbotax is so so.. I have to live with

1. Inconsistent presentation in each login. In the days of AI, it loses what was said earlier. 2. I got confused with my 1099-R auto-downloaded data. 3. When I thought Review was successful in one run, it asks mor questions on the second run if I happen to logout and login. I dont know why it discovers to questions after a successful review.

Each Years Gets More Cumbersome

I've changed my review to 1 star - My return was continually rejected bc apparently I don't know how to cut & past our AGI from our 2024 return. I asked Intuit's AI chatbot which checked and said our return had not been rejected. I went to Turbo Tax and checked the status of the return and it still came up as Rejected. I really didn't want to mail our return, but finally gave up bc I'd spent collectively at least 2-3 hrs trying to get it submitted electronically. The 1st time I used Turbo Tax many yrs ago, it was super easy. It's gotten more difficult and cumbersome over time. More technical jargon. Links provided for return being rejected are not correct and need to be updated/revise. Keep in mind the following..."Explain it so a 6th grader can understand it."

TurboTax's error review process needs work

The desktop version was not as easy as the online version that I used for my own taxes. Specifically, during the review phase, when it finds errors, TT will ask for information from some obscure form without any context (it shows only a field in isolation). Twice I had to google the name of the form and the field to determine what to enter. This is a waste of time. Why not take me to the actual form so I can see what the field and error is about?

Thank You TurboTax

Always a relief to know that TurboTax is doing the math and filling in the correct forms properly. Turbotax always seem to have the correct form available. Also reassuring that TurboTax does a thorough review to check for missing info or typos. Appreciate the flexibility of being able to select which topics to review based on previous year's taxes. Called Turbotax for a software issue. "Step-by-step" was not filling in a 1099-R form properly (i.e. Box 7 Distribution Code had only 1 number, but software would override and "click" Box 7 Question as if there was more than 1 number). Fix was to go into "Forms" and select "(No entry)" for 2nd Box 7 entry. Had a similar problem with type of account, had to go into "Forms" and select the correct info (either IRA or Other). Tech support was very helpful to resolve these matters.

Improve sale of rental section and lower pricing

The section on selling a rental was not intuitive and confusing. It can be made simpler by asking a series of pointed interview questions and providing an example. Paying for each state submission was frustrating. There is no longer even a complimentary submission included in the purchase price. At some point AI will become an option for preparing taxes for all but the most complex returns, it would be appreciated if you rewarded customer loyalty by giving long time users complimentary State submissions. Thank you.
