Brings new meaning to the word "comfortable"
I recently tested the Maxi Cosi Pria Chill with VentMax Car Seat, courtesy of the Stellar Product Testing Panel, and I'm genuinely impressed with its outstanding features & safety-oriented design. From the moment I opened this box, I knew this car seat was going to be a luxurious one, thanks to its remarkably rich texture of the fabric and cushioning - and it also simplifies the cleaning process—a genuine lifesaver for my husband and me. The magnetic chest clip is another particularly appreciated comfort feature. A key advantage of the Maxi Cosi Pria Chill is its versatility, seamlessly transitioning from rear-facing to front-facing and into a booster seat. This adaptability makes it a wise long-term investment! The range of padding options, including the infant cushions shows the thoughtful design Maxi Cosi has for kids of all ages. While I was hoping the installation process would be fairly seamless (thanks to the clear and concise directions laid out in the manual), I did encounter a slight hurdle and initially struggled to get that tight fit to the seat I was looking for. But after watching some instructional videos, I had it strapped in and ready to go in under five minutes! The Vent Max Chill System stands out as a game-changer. Setup was effortless—plugging the car seat into the rear 12V power port—and it immediately proved its worth. The attention to detail in the system, including the indicator light, breathable fabric, and cord system, is evident. Placing the system out of the child's reach and ensuring it doesn't interfere with the back seat's functionality is super important. The automatic cooling feature, responding to sensor cues, is particularly impressive and crucial for cars like mine that don't have rear vents. The Maxi Cosi Pria Chill with VentMax Car Seat has truly exceeded my expectations, offering a combination of comfort, safety, and innovative features that make it a standout choice for any parent.
Car Seat with Breathable Fabric and Cool Features
This car seat stands out for its premium-feeling and breathable fabric. I love that the fabric is light enough in color that it won't get super hot on sunny days, but still grey and dark enough that it won't show every speck of dirt either. It has a nice feeling to it and the parts of the car seat where your baby or toddler will be most nestled in are mesh, so that they will still cool. My little guy tends to run very hot so I think that especially in the warmer months, this will be a game changer for him. Of course the coolest feature of them all on this car seat is the built in fan and "chill" factor. Unfortunately it is December right now so I have not had a chance to really test this meaningfully, but it seems like it'll be extremely useful come spring and summer. My little one seems very comfortable in it. In terms of other features, I love the double cupholders. Adjustability seems on par with other car seats of a similar price point-- no need to rethread the harness which is great. I don't love how the chest buckle works because it's a little tricky to do one handed, but my biggest gripe is that there is nowhere on the sides of the car seat to insert the straps/buckles to hold them outwards. Some car seats have little pockets you can tuck the straps and/or buckles into so that they don't get in the way when you are putting your kiddo in-- this helps so that you don't have to then dig the straps/buckles out from under them. I think this is a big oversight at this price point personally. However, I think if you have a little one who runs hot, this is a really innovative car seat that will keep them a lot more comfortable than any other I've seen. I was given this all in one car seat to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. All opinions are my own.
A nice option if it fits your family's needs
We tried the Maxi-Cosi Pria Chill car seat with our newborn in July in the Midwest. We were excited to try it because our Honda Odyssey's a/c vents are in awkward spots and we worry about our rear-facing kids in car seats getting adequate cooling. The car seat looks plush, but is pretty bulky (I'm guessing partly because of the embedded fans?). I didn't find the install to be particularly easy in our Honda Odyssey's second row. The 3-levels of recline weren't enough to get the seat level to the ground for our newborn who can't sit up unassisted, so I had to use a pool noodle to recline the seat further. This made me feel like the seat was less secure, even though it passed the 1 inch of movement test. Once the seat was reclined sufficiently, it took up so much space that no one could ride in the front passenger seat. That said, once I was used to it, the seat was pretty easy to use and my newborn seemed comfortable and happy in it. For parents looking to use a convertible seat at birth, I'd make sure your stroller can be used with a newborn if you don't have a bucket seat. I'd also recommend double-checking the newborn's fit with the harness strap covers - they may need to be removed for the chest clip to fit properly and the straps to pass the pinch test. The fans turn on right away in hot weather and the indicator light makes it easy to see they're running. Although the fans make a little noise, it's unnoticeable over the road noise once you get going. I like that the harness and headrest adjust automatically and that a lot of little details are thought of - like making the cup holders easily removable for cleaning. I suspect we'll like this seat a lot more once we have an older infant that is outgrowing the infant bucket and doesn't need such a deep recline. It's probably great as a forward-facing seat. Overall, I would recommend this seat to parents living in warm climates who are looking for ways to keep their children comfortable in their car seats.
So Chill!
We live in Texas and it is so hard to keep my child cool, even with the AC on full blast. I always feel so bad when I take my daughter out of her seat and her back is sweaty from her car seat. This car seat has a solution for sweaty kids and I'm so here for it!! I could see this also being amazing for rear-facing kiddos who get hot too. I'm so grateful Stellar Panel provided us this car seat to try. Though it did arrive in December, we tested it out on a warmer day and it worked really well. First, it was easy to install. The directions were straightforward and easy to follow. The seat itself felt well constructed and I really liked the feel of the fabric. It feels ventilated and high tech while still being soft. It's not wool- but it's still moisture wicking. I also like that it's flame-retardant chemical free. I did knock off a star- my daughter has a hard time un-clipping the chest strap herself when we drop her off for carpool at school. But that is the only thing I don't like about this seat. I'm excited to test it in the 100+ degree temps this summer.
Sweaty Kid Saver
I have great things to say about this car seat! I've noticed that the backseat of my car does not have very good air flow (especially for a rear-facing child) and while I'm riding comfortably with AC blasting, I notice my child is sweaty when arriving at our final destination. This always presents a challenge: do I crank the AC and freeze myself out, or keep the car at a moderate temperature and hope my child doesn't mind the sweaty hair? This car seat provides the solution with the built-in fans and automated sensors to turn on and off when optimal temperatures are reached. The look of the car seat is stylish and relatively slim, although to incorporate the fans, the head rest is large and bulky, but my child didn't mind. I really appreciate that this seat can grow with my little one, and while I didn't need to use this for an infant, the pillows provided were firm and looked like they would have been extremely supportive for this function. A few design features that I think could make this a 100% winning seat are in relation to the cord and fan features. The cord is nice and long to allow it to reach the front seat in my car; however, in larger vehicles, or if using this in a third row, the cord would be unlikely to reach any power. I tried following instructions to keep the cord out of the way by tucking it under the seat, but in the rear facing position, it still has to drape and makes a second child crawling under it to their seat more challenging. A channel within the seat to hide the cord would be ideal. The power for this is also only a 12V; however, having this run-on USB power would have been more ideal. Adjusting the height positions on this seat was more challenging than I'm used to, but it was just something I had to adjust to. Overall, I would recommend this car seat if you are looking for a nice option to keep your kiddos cool! Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this all in one car seat.
A cool breeze in a comfy, lightweight package
My toddler and I are very thankful to Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing us with this cool (pun intended) seat! My little guy runs quite warm, and my car doesn't have rear air vents, so I'm very excited to have integrated fans that will help him stay cool in the summer. He finds the seat to be very comfortable, and has an easier time getting in and out of it than our previous seat. The seat is very cushy, and includes very soft, extra cushioning for smaller infants. I love how easy it is to remove the cup holders and seat pad for washing, as well as the feel and quality of the materials used. The power cord is slim and unobtrusive, and the positioning on the back of the seat means no little grabby hands will get to it! The seat does ride high, which my toddler loves, but is a bit of a visual blocker in my Honda Fit hatchback. I found adjusting it tough, because it's a bit stiff, but I assume it'll become easier with time. I also struggled to get the seat installed with the LATCH tethers (my preferred method of install), and the lack of a bubble level at this price point seems like an oversight. The lack of bubble level, and the fact that I've only used rigid LATCH in the past, meant that getting a tight, level fit was tough until I had my virtual installation appointment. I learned exactly how to navigate installation smoothly, and because the seat is so light, moving it between cars and reattaching everything will be a breeze now that I know what to do. My favorite feature of the seat is the magnetic, quick release chest clip; it honestly feels revolutionary and I can't believe I was missing out on such an easy to use safety clip. Overall, I'm not in love with the seat - yet. My toddler is very happy, though, and I know that this will be a big win during our hot California summers, so I'm sure I will grow to love the seat with time.
Awesome seat for warm weather
I would recommend this car seat to anyone living in a warm climate, especially if they drive a car without air vents in the back. I have such peace of mind knowing my son is safe and comfortable in the Maxi-Cosi Pria Chill. We recently took a long road trip to the beach and it was so nice not having to worry about the baby getting too hot in the car. I will say that the seat was initially difficult to install, but moving it to a different car later was a breeze. Be aware that during long road trips the ventilation system can be loud when automatically turning on-off. Overall, I would recommend this car seat and am grateful for having been given the opportunity to test it out myself.
Great concept, but room for improvement
I very much appreciate the ventilated fabric and the fans to help reduce baby's sweating. But there are a couple of things needed in order to make this a truly premium car seat. It was hard to get the seat level. A bubble indicator would help a lot, as would the ability to adjust the recline even after the seat is installed. As with many convertible car seats, this one takes up a great deal of space front-to-back when installed rear facing. I love the magnetic chest clip, but I had trouble every time trying to you release the buckle. It never became intuitive to me. Finally, why on earth is the plug for a cigarette lighter, which so many cars these days do not have? ! ? Before buying, make sure your expectations are appropriate. This is a ventilating system, not a cooling system. Just like the ventilation system currently in a lot of cars. A fan merely moves the air around, and helps sweat to evaporate. This is not an air conditioning unit. Note that I received this product for free in exchange for testing and providing feedback over several weeks of use.
