It does not smell bad, but it doesn't necessarily smell great either and I was nervous that my cats would not try it. I was wrong however! When I put the recommended amount atop my cat's food in their dish, they instantly were sniffing, and then eating it. They all were able to taste test the kibble bits and were asking for more- as cats do. I am pleasantly surprised with this food topper and the ingredients confirm that this is a well-made, trustworthy product to feed my cats. The only thing I would recommend changing is making the bag easier to open and reseal. I have already recommended this to friends. I anticipate my cats to have healthier coats as well after using this long term.

I added the topper liquid to his dry dog food, and he ate it faster than when I add water to his food. He is used to having liquids on his food, so I had no problem getting him to eat. Every time I took the package out of the refrigerator, he was so excited and barking at me running around like he remembered how good it was. I'm not sure but I may have added too much, but I don't think my dog was complaining.

If they don't like something, the will turn their nose up at it. 1 of my dogs will eat anything and everything. The 2 that are picky would not eat anything I put this product on, so the 1 who eats anything got it all. I would not purchase this because most of my dogs wouldn't eat it.
