Impressive
I actually bought this to get into some of the smaller areas between vehicles of my rather large driveway to supplement my 28 inch gas powered blower. I have about a 10 car driveway and 150' of sidewalk that gets the bulk of the mess from the street plowed onto it. First storm, about 3" of medium weight snow, I was able to do my driveway completely. I could have used the bigger gas blower but I wanted to see how this would perform. No problem at all. I was able to do one pass up and down on my 150 foot stretch of sidewalk as well, it was down to a single bar but I still had some juice left. It's very easy to maneuver and is impressively powerful. My only complaint is you have to manually adjust the angle of the height of the discharge on the chute itself, as there is no console control for that. You can only control the left and right direction from the console. But this is forgivable given the low price of the unit. I'm guessing this was about 25-30 minutes of usage. I was able to walk pretty quickly because it wasn't a heavy load for the machine to handle. A couple weeks later we got about 6" of pretty wet snow. My daughter who is 14 and very athletic, wanted to help so she used the snow Joe while I used my big 28 in gas blower. With the two batteries she was able to do probably about half the driveway while I was doing the sidewalk and end of the driveway where the plow built up a bank a foot and a half or so of very heavy icy slush. But the kicker was I lost my auger drive belt on my gas machine doing this, so I took a couple of batteries I had from my other sun Joe products and popped them in this 18" unit, and while it did struggle a little bit, it was able to finish the rest of the driveway I couldn't get with the bigger blower, and also get through a bit of the heavy wet slush at the end of the driveway that that killed my 28" blower. At this point it's throwing the wet slushy stuff about 8', but that was enough to clear the driveway. My gas blower was probably only getting about double that distance. There were two or three times where the blower couldn't handle the load and it stopped. But it started up immediately again and when I took a narrower path of snow it was able to take care of things. I estimate we got about 20 minutes of runtime on the sets of four amp hour batteries I used at this point in this heavy snow. Again more than sufficient given the weight of the snow and the price point of the unit. So I came Away Very impressed with this thing, And that it could do the work of my larger snowblower although with a little bit more effort because it only clears 18 inches, and it doesn't have huge batteries. But it's very light and maneuverable. If you regularly get 6-8" of snow per storm I would probably get something more heavy duty. But for even a typical Southern New England winter, especially if you have a four car driveway or smaller, I think this would take care of pretty much all of your needs.
Great product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This snow blower already comes together in the box. There is just a couple steps left for you to finish setup. We got it in the mail same day we got a nice snow storm. We tested it out right away. It does a decent job. The snow we got was heavy and wet. The snow blower did a pretty good job clearing, it was just hard to get down to the concrete. I think it would do an amazing job with light snow. I wish there was more of a shovel on the bottom to help get under the snow, we had to tilt it forward while using. It’s powerful and lightweight. The heavier snow did cause the batteries to drain faster. Keep that it mind. Overall very excited to have a snow blower!
Works great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Well this literally got delivered during a snowfall so the timing couldn't have been better. It was a wet heavy snow so the perfect test for this. It comes packed nicely in one box VERY easy to assemble no issues whatsoever. Just have to fold it up tighten some knobs and put the shaft on that turns the chute. It looks great it feels very well made the battery charger is really nice. It's not to heavy has a handle to help carry to different areas. I have a large gas snowblower but I was looking for something for my patio area and for lighter snow and this is perfect. It has no issues with the wet heavy snow. Battery was still good when I finished what I needed to with it. I think I could do my driveway and sidewalk if it's a light fluffy snow without killing the battery. Great product.
Light weight and works well.
This unit is light weight, easy to use. I couldn't get the machine to run more than ten feet in -11 degree temps this morning. It just quit, and shut off after a few seconds of use. The batteries were fully charged, and showed green. I brought the batteries inside and let warm them warm to room temperature. Then they worked fine after that. I used it previously on 2 occasions without any issues, but the weather was in the low to mid thirties. I keep the charger in the garage and store the batteries nearby after charging, so maybe it was just too cold this morning. The only other issue was that a screw holding the crank to the snow discharge chute fell out, and got lost in the snow the 2nd time I used it. I replaced the screw with a cotter pin, and works fine.
Impressed
I purchased this unit after returning 2 larger units of a different brand that quit after the first use. I thought I would need to return this one as well because initially it would only run for 3 seconds under load. I called customer service and they told me to make sure the batteries were charged fully, then press and hold the button for 10 seconds without pulling the lever, release, then operate normally. Since completing this procedure this unit has been a beast. I've cleared 8 in of old wet snow from the sidewalks, cleared my porch, etc. I am very satisfied with the quality and performance of this unit.
Good Snow blower yet bad battery life
After using this snow blower for a few months through several snow storms i feel i can write a fair review The snow blower itself is light weight and does a fantastic job, it will eat through snow just as fast and throw snow just as far as my small gas blower. The problem is the battery life. I get maybe 15-20 minutes of battery life before the machine shuts down. 15-20 minutes isnt enough to clear my small driveway when there is more than a few inches of snow. If the batteries lasted longer this would get 5 stars, as is i will need to order another set of batteries to be able to clear my whole driveway without waiting two hours for the batteries to charge.
Easy to use
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very satisfied with this Snow Joe cordless snowblower kit. It works well and is lightweight. It glides easily over the snow. The chute will move 180 degrees and even when it’s running. It does require both batteries for it to run. The average time to charge the batteries is about 2.5 hours. My husband was able to snowblow 400 feet of sidewalk and 3 driveways before we had to charge the batteries. There is a LED light on this snowblower which is convenient to use at dusk/evening. Operating the snowblower is easy and doesn’t hurt your back at all. This snowblower is a small size and is perfect for anyone who has a small/medium area. We used ours in 4 inches of snow and works great but I know it would handle anything deeper than that. The compact size makes it easy to store when not in use. Definitely pleased with the results and is a brand that I’d recommend and would purchase again.
Perfect for our needs
Just got this a week ago. Michigan then had a 9 inch snow fall. The first few inches were heavy and wet- the snowblower did well. Then next 2 inches or so were light and no issues. The last 5 inches were deeper and had some ice chunks from the road being plowed. That was for sure more of a strain, but it still got the job done. I have a corner home ad the driveway is just big enough for 2 cars. I can do the driveway, sidewalks all the way around and up to the front entrance on one charge in the conditions described above. I have an allergy to vibration and can't use gas blowers, but this was not a problem for me! I also have a heart condition and needed a lighter unit- it was a bit much to push for me on the heavy wet snow, but the more typical snow fall was no problem. We LOVE not having to keep gas on hand. The batteries took about 3 hours to charge. Overall we are very happy with the purchase!
Nice, light weight machine.
This unit is light weight and works well in powder and light wet snow. It worked great the first two times I used it, on 2 inch snowfall. I keep the batteries and charger in my garage. I recharged the batteries after use, then remove them from the charger and store them nearby in the garage. The temp hit -10 this morning. It was pretty cold in the garage. I took out the Snow Joe and it didn't make it 10 feet down the driveway, before it quit. I couldn't get it to run more that a few feet at a time and it stopped. The batteries showed a full charge, but they were freezing cold. I brought the batteries inside and let them warm up for about 30-45 minutes. I tried again, and it ran great (with the room temperature batteries). The only other complaint is that one of the screws holding the crank for the discharge chute fell out while in use, and got lost in the snow. I replaced it with a cotter pin, and it works fine.
I love my Snow Joe products
I love my snow Joe products, the snow blower handles quit a bit for it's size. The only trouble it has is with heavy wet snow. It will remove it, but we are careful not to over work it. We have a bigger machine for that. It is the perfect size for most of the winter.
