We didn't have any cameras prior to this one, so it was a big change for us being able to watch our house through the camera. We go out of town frequently so this was perfect for us. The installation was easy. The camera gives you a high-quality picture and even has night vision, so you can see through it at night, too. Overall, it is a very user-friendly camera and works great for extra surveillance.

It records in 1080p full high-definition, offers color night vision, and comes with a weather-resistant design, which make it well suited for outdoor use. Setup was fast and easy, which I appreciate because I don't have the patience for a complicated install. The video quality is great for the price, and the night vision actually shows color instead of that dull gray haze most cameras have. It's battery powered, so you can put it anywhere without running cords through your house. The motion alerts come through quickly, sometimes a little too often if it's windy, but I'd rather get a few extras than miss something important. Mine came with a 30-day trial of the Arlo Secure subscription, which gives access to better motion detection, storage, and smart alerts. You can use it without a plan, but the subscription definitely makes it more useful. Some retailers include longer trials, so it depends where you get it. Overall, it's easy to use, reliable, and does what it should. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a solid outdoor camera. It's a really good option for the price point and worth picking up. I've had the ring system for about a year so it was nice to be able to test arlo to the ring camera. The set up for the camera and the app was very easy and straightforward. They provided the hardware for mounting and charging. Comparing with the Ring, there is not much difference in cost for individual cameras. Image quality appears better on arlo. Detection is pretty good. There seemed to be a slight delay on the arlo with motion sensing. The mobile app is simple, and easy to use, and compared to ring, I like that you can still enable alarms through the app even without a plan. Notifications and alerts are sent almost instantly. Some of the security plans offered by arlo are more expensive than ring, but features seem to be comparable. Overall, this is a good camera and I'm glad I was able to compare it with a system I already had. If you want better image quality then I'd choose arlo over ring.

Its actually got decent nighttime feedback as well and you can pause alerts at night. The sound i dint really have an opinion on but its holding up well to chicago winters although im not sure its going to be durable in -10 weather. We will see!

The install was easy and didn't take long at all. I have an Autistic son and this has helped me so much. It has motion detection and I can monitor him and help keep him safe.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Arlo Essential Outdoor Security Camera is fantastic! My old cameras used to annoy me by detecting bugs, but this one doesn't. I really appreciate the settings for when I'm away or home, and the ability to create different zones so it only alerts me when movement is detected in those areas. Plus, since I have three animals, I love that I can make it so it doesn't detect animals. Oh and the night vision? It's crystal clear!. Overall, I'm a huge fan of this camera, and I think the battery life is pretty good for a camera of its kind!
