Rocky start.
Hmmmm. Purchased in October. One of the mini cameras was intermittently faulty right out of the box. Swann did replace the faulty unit at no cost to me but I felt it took an unreasonable amount of effort by me to achieve this. Fault was reported on 19th Oct, replacement camera received 5th Nov. I find it disappointing that the support process is nowhere near as responsive as the sales process. I had to constantly follow-up to determine what was going on. Perhaps my expectations are unrealistic? MaxRanger hub software is responsible, seems stable. I suspect it is targeted at online powered cameras and can be confusing when using report by exception batteries cameras as displayed information is often stale. As I'm a left hand mouse user and the primary and secondary mouse buttons are not to my liking and I have not found a way to swap the buttons. iOS app is err flaky at best, plenty of room for improvement here. Pairing the app on my iPad with the hub was a challenge as the QR scan scanner function did not work and MxRanger hub was not available to select when pairing manually. I did manage to get my iPad paired in the end but not sure how I did it. Also many features in the app such as adjusting the PIR sensitivity based on the selected mode does not seem to work with the MaxRanger hub. I'm still investigating this, perhaps this functionality is not applicable to the MaxRanger hub? Both cameras installed now and system is performing adequately, nervous about hardware longevity. House is an average size suburban house so no issues with RSSI and I like the fact that the system is not taking to much bandwidth on home Wifi.

I will not be able to test the quality of these cameras or utilize them the way I need to utilize a security system. There's nothing on the box that says you must register with Swann in order to use your cameras. You have to create an account in order to use the app they require you to use to set up your cameras.
Hi Marvin. The MaxRanger4K Mini camera system must be used on a phone/tablet using the Swann Security app. To use the Swann Security app, you are correct in saying that you must register an app account. There are no compulsory monthly fees with Swann though if that's what you are thinking, it is purely an app account that you need to setup. If you are looking for a security system with no phone interaction and just a local closed system that you'd view on a monitor, you may wish to look at Swann's DVR or NVR systems instead as they have the option to view locally without any internet connection. - SD, Swann Team
Frustrated and Empty Handed
We went to the Montgomery,AL store the display was filled with display cards we checked out and went to pick up the item but it was out of stock. A full display of cards to purchase the item should not be on the floor, if the item is not available. Had to wait in line all 3 times, to purchase the item. Pick up the item, and told it was not in stock, and a third time to receive the refund. 45 minutes later, we left empty handed and frustrated! Just hope the refund appears on my card, in time.
