Very dissappointed in low quality
This product is evidently made by a different vendor than the one you use to sell that had same specs and appearance. The old one was a great product as we purchsed 8 of them and love using them. This new shelving is definitely subpar. The ends will bend when trying to install shelf brackets and the piece to connect upper section to lower is literally a joke. The old unit had a metal piece that gave you a solid and sturdy connection, This new unit has a small plastic piece similar to the end caps which simply wouldn't hold a feather together. I could live with having to bend the brackets back to make fit but the connection piece was the "straw that broke the camels back". Returning both units that we recently purchased. This kind of nonsense in merchandise cheapens the quality of your membership program. Will still be shopping at Sam's but so dissapointed in this product slipping past a product quality inspection by your buying office.
Downright awful
These shelves are just, downright, terrible. The design is poorly thought out. It's a nightmare to assembly by yourself and you inevitably bend a number of the rivets and bars having to hammer them (which it recommends) into place. the material is not nearly as strong as you might think (hence the bending from a rubber mallet.) The vertical posts consists of two posts per corner and the method of connecting them leaves one wondering when they're going to collapse. Go to Home Depot, buy the equivalent heavy duty plastic ones. Still plenty of load bearing capacaity, much easier to assemble, and much easier to disassemble if you ever move or want to rearrange shelves. These, i'll definitely be leaving behind when I move next year.
Don’t buy!!!
Falls apart easily….shipped with no cushioning so pieces are scratched and bent, so it made it a nightmare to assemble. I looked at assembly and review videos online and realized that several metal stabilizing pieces have been replaced with cheap plastic ones that make the unit very wobbly. Shame on Sams Club for selling this when it is so cheaply made.
Horrible Shelves!
I bought these shelves a while back and they were built sturdy, really sturdy, but I just bought three more, and these are junk. They are a lawsuit waiting to happen. They used to have a strong piece of angle iron that went in between the two leg supports, now all they have is a little piece of plastic that will not hold this together. I had to add my own supports to hold the legs together. It says this unit will hold 4000 pounds, I doubt it will! Sam's has taken a huge hit in the quality department. I think a lot of the positive reviews came from the older better built shelves. I bought these on 9/24/2023, the older ones I bought about three or four years ago. If these units break, I will bring a suit against Sams for anything that breaks.
Armadillo Brand Excellent. Member's Mark brand te
The shelves marked with the Armadillo brand are excellent. The Member's Mark are worthless. They may be the same design, but the quality of the Member's Mark parts/tolerances are terrible. I bought 10 units...6 were Armadillo and these all went together fine. After the 2nd of 4 Member's Mark I gave up after bending/hammering/straightening...put the parts back in the boxes and took them back.

Avoid this shelf
One of the worst Sam's club purchases I've ever made very difficult to build. Connections to upper and lower posts is a small piece that barely holds anything. The shelves are cheap wood. I also bought cheaper plastic ones, can't adjust shelf size but still much better.

Very weak and unstable
Flimsy new version of a great shelf
We have purchased these or similar shelving units from SAM's for the past 20 years. The quality has gone way down in recent years. These are so flimsy they sway and rock all over the place with just a light push of the finger once assembled. On the plus side, they are very easy to assemble and the price is decent. Metal is about 1/3 the thickness of the units they sold 10 - 15 years ago. We purchased 6 and are planning to return the 5 un-opened boxes and will search for something sturdier.
Second Purchase - OOPS
Just purchased 5 more on these. Regrettably there has been a HUGE change in quality. We just moved into our new home where I brought 7 of these shelving units that I purchased about 5 years ago with me that I disassembled and then reassembled in my new basement. Still extremely happy with the older units. Except of a slight color change, the 'appearance' of the new and older units is identical. But the quality is NOT close. I put all 7 of the older units i brought with me together in a little over an hour. This included putting then in place, moving them, pushing them around and lining them up. I then started assembling the new units. The first unit took me over 45 minutes to put together. The assembly process and construction is the same, but the quality of the steel, thickness of each piece is not the same. The new units are thinner, manufacturing quality is at best VERY poor. i ended up having to bend the metal pieces over and over trying to get them to fit. I am an engineer, and very mechanically inclinded, and 190 pounds. qualified and quite capable, but i struggled. A few examples: The four corner supports are two 36" pieces you put together to form your 6' corners. The older version was the same except the piece used to fit between the two for the older was a substantial piece of angled steel about 5" long and when the two 36" where assemble with this piece the 6' corner would be easy to work with and not come apart. The newer units, instead of this piece of steel to assemble the two pieces, us a piece of plastic that is all of about a half inch. So cheap, and assembling the legs, this does not hold them together allowing you to move it around assembling the rest of the unit's pieces. When i FINALLY got one put tother, took a deep breath and went to move it into place, only a 6-8" move, the unit came apart at this joint falling apart with the upper half landing on the floor. Another example: the rivets or small 'buttons' that 'fit' into the corner pieces should fit easily into the holes, then snap down. This was so much work and so frustrating, over half the units shelf rails would not slide all the way down and some i could not get to go in at all without tools and countless working of the pieces pounding wiggling into place. With the poor construction, IF I were to want to change on of the shelves location, the height of one of the selves, taking it apart and putting it at a different elevation was next to impossible because beating the shelves apart because they fit so forcibly together caused the whole unit to come apart in where you did not want it to. I wanted all my shelves new and older to match. i was excited to find i could still get these units so they all looked the same. My wife would not have put up with this and would have returned these units. I managed thru it. I do not plan to move again, but if i do, these newer units will stay here.
Nice for price but NOT easy to put together
I bought two of these for a long storage closet. For the price, they are nice, but a couple notes to buyers. It is NOT easy to put together; you definitely need a hammer or something to pound the rails in place. They do not lock easily together as described. I have a ton of cuts from putting this together, all over me. So, grab a hammer before you start. I also thought I could do it by myself but ended up needing my spouse to help me hold sides together while I hammered in place. Also, I'm not sure that I trust the weight limit for each shelf as described in the advertisement. As a matter of fact I will not be putting more than 100 lbs on each shelf, if that. If you stack it together tall, like the main picture, I cannot see that 100 lbs would be stable on the top 2-3 shelves. They are barely held together by the bolts, and all of my posts are aligned. I made one the tall shelf, and made the 2nd set side by side. I think the side by side will be more stable. For the price I shouldn't complain, but the frustration of putting it together and being leery about the weight per shelf makes me give it only 3 stars. They did arrive ahead of schedule though, by 4 days! Would recommend these shelves if you knew what you were getting in to with the caveats above.
