USE TO BE A GOOD SHELF, NOW THE WORST!

I started purchasing these shelves almost 10 years ago when they were made by the original manufacturer for Sam's Club. They have changed the way these shelves are made nearly 5 times since then. Originally any shelf could be placed in any location from top to bottom, with strong metal brackets holding the top and bottom sections together. Also, the frame was steel and could hold a combined total of 6,500 pounds of weight or 650 pounds per shelf. The new ones are FAR from this design. Now, to prevent falling, you must place one shelf in the middle, because you are no longer provided with the strong metal brackets, but instead plastic stubs that simply prevent the top and bottom sections from slipping out of place during assembly. Also, with the new lighter fiberglass design, the frame no longer holds 6,500 pounds, but 4,000 pounds. While this is still impressive if you are not planning on holding more than that, the frame now bends easily as you put it together. This was once my go to shelf, as I own about 15 of them in my garage. Sadly, I returned my most recent one and I will not be purchasing any more until the quality is improved. The original shelves were only $70 each and an average adult could stand on a shelf. Now, the shelf can barely hold itself together and is a whopping $90. THIS SHELF IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY ANYMORE.

Old Design Is Superior

We have three of the original version and they are definitely sturdier. The new design has a small plastic connector for the corner sections. Previous design used a metal connector that was much larger and sturdier. The new version can easily come apart at the connecting spot. Makes moving them risky. PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD DESIGN!

Ordered Members Mark shelves got Armadillo brand

I ordered the Members Mark brand shelves (that is what was pictured on the website). I got Armadillo brand shelves. They were much harder to put together than the previous Members Mark shelves. The piece that holds the poles together are short plastic pieces, Members Mark brand had longer metal pieces to hold poles together. Too heavy to return so I am keeping them, but they not good quality! I highly recommend the members mark brand, definitely do NOT recommend the Armadillo brand.

Waste of money

Purchased this shelving trying to avoid paying for a much more expensive brand Gladiator that I previously bought. Shelves literally broke in pieces after being up for less than 24 hours. Put wash clothes and bath towels on first two shelves, laundry supplies on the bottom shelves heard a loud crash mid day all four shelves completed broken! Ordered a Gladiator shelf no issues.

Sturdy, BUT the 2023 version is junk

Classic bait and switch. The new version is black metal with plastic joining pieces if you want to utilize the full 72" height shelf. The original gray shelf had sturdy metal joiners that pushed deep into the outer supports. The new joiners are short plastic nubs that require a shelf to be installed at the midway point. You now have less control on your shelf height choices since it requires a shelf in the middle to hold the top and bottom together. Appears to be a POOR way to save a dollar on the cost.

Easy to assemble light weight

This is the second of these types of shells that I purchase the first one was super heavy and difficult to put together required hammers in transit time this one was lightweight easy to put together and it holds just as much heavy stuff as the other one!

Poor quality

When I started to put this together, I realized how flimsy and cheap it was. The rails wouldn't stay in place and kept popping off, the metal pieces easily bent and the paint scratches off very easily. The rails are really hard to lock in place and they would bend when trying to force them into place and then would sort of just be half way on. I would not trust the weight capacity on this thing. We bought a plastic rack the exact same size and cheaper and it was way better quality then this. Half way through assembly we gave up, took if apart and returned it.

Original Design was Superior

We purchased this unit to match the 3 we had purchased from Sam's 6 months ago. The unit - same product number as the others - was a different color (originals were dark silver, this one is black) and the bracing piece that ensures support/connection between the bottom and top upright posts was changed from a 6 inch metal insert to a barely 1 inch plastic retainer. Decent put together, but not nearly as sturdy as the original design. We have to be careful of what we put on the upper shelves of this unit due to this - but, hey, easy to differentiate, as it's a distinctly different color.
