I had a First Build Opal ice maker that I bought 10 years ago. It quit working in May 2025. So i decided to buy another First Build - well they are now GE. So I took a chance. I bought it 6-13-25 and it started making the same screeching noise that my 10 year old did before it died. Not even 10 days old. I am sooooo disappointed.

I should have read reviews. After spending much time setting this up and sanitizing it was such a waste of time. It makes ice just to have water spray all over the ice and melt it. After reading reviews it looks like there are a lot of issues with this machine.

Bought Nov. 30, 2025, started making and odd groaning noise after two weeks and seems like the water level sensor and pump are failing. It asked for descaling after 1st 100 hours and I use distilled water only. This tells me I think descale is based on time, not actual need. Did descale and rinse which is a pain and can get messy with side tank. Once or twice a day I have to add water in the unit water reservoir after about 2 weeks after I got it which is what leads me to think the noise is the water pump as reservoir is half full, and the side tank is completely full. After I purchased I see this is one of the major complaints. I’m giving it till new years and if doesn’t correct it self it’s going back. The ice is very nice. The unit looks very good, but the noise is louder than I expected from the unit and I had no idea the maintenance on. It would be such a pain. If I had to do all over again, I would not purchase it’s not worth the labor

I was so excited to get this machine. I spend most of the day just trying to get it to make ice. Once it does, I love it. I have to side tank full of water, the reservoir full to the max line, and it will still tells me it needs water. It is random when it starts making ice. I love and hate this machine. I wouldn't purchase this once from Sam's Club. The concept is wonderful. I would try buying somewhere else.

There are days when I think that this GE Opal ice machine is the best thing in the kitchen. The other days I just love the convenience of fresh, easily available ice. The size of the ice pieces is perfect for drinks or going into a blender. I purchased the one with the side tank and it definitely was the right decision. It is easier to fill the side tank. I use distilled water The only downside to this machine is the monthly cleaning. After a few times, it becomes a smooth process and you will want clean ice! The machine will prompt you when it is time to clean I have already recommended to friends

We purchased this ice maker not even a year ago and it has already broke. Warranty covered it but we was told a new warranty will not be issued and this new machine will go off our old machine so it will expire in July. It broke before a year so I'm worried this $400 machine will become a paperweight before next year.

Two stars because the ice is great… when the machine works. It makes a loud banging sound when it doesn't. We know how to make it stop, but it will do it almost daily. Middle of the night wake up calls are frequent because it starts making the banging sound at all hours of the day. Even with the manufacturer's help and guidance to get it to stop making the sound, it only stops temporarily.

If i could give this product 0 stars i would after following ALL setup instructions and making ice for the first time the machine started and a few nuggets started to appear after 2 hours not much ice was produced after 6 hours i had 1 quart of ice at that point i stoped and called Manufacturer for help they recommended starting over and i did the ice making process was a little faster but only 2 quarts of ice was made after 6 hours at that point i should have read reviews about this product i noticed the product ran hot too hot i would say and made a loud of noise for my liking so i will be returning this product to store foe a full refund i do not recommend this product for above reasons

If we could give it zero stars we would. We owned this for less than 3 months and it started making these loud screeching noises. Even though it didn't indicate that it needed it, we gave it a good clean and it still screeched and screeched. Terrible... Certainly not what we expected from a GE Profile product.

The ice is great BUT the maintenance sucks. This thing constantly has a dark gross film that comes back a couple of days after cleaning it. I've left vinegar in it for DAYS and still can't get it clean. If you have a filter, you're probably fine, but for regular water and especially hard water be prepared to constantly be cleaning this thing.
