Low quality, but extra screws allow bin storage!

I needed these to stack some light storage boxes in a shed. First problem: the joint between the two sections of the vertical supports requires a shelf to be installed at that exact level. This prevents you from fully using the space for standard 17" large storage bins. Second problem: the wooden shelf inserts are thinner than the shelf supports, such that the shelf supports form a 2mm lip around the entire shelf--not great if items hang over the edge of the shelf. Other reviews are right that they are supper flimsy and hard to put together. It really requires two people, maybe more, and they don't stay together well if moved--even a little. Once together and loaded they will hold well enough. But without weight on all the selves, they are like a house of cards, seriously! I discovered the way to get the stability is to attach the shelf supports to the vertical supports using "hex head self tapping sheet metal screws" (they look like drill bits on the end). Once you install these at each end of all the shelf supports, it is as strong and stable as you could wish for for $75. The shelves are not easily moved, but then moving one may require you to completely rebuild the rack anyway. BTW, I solved problem one by installing the side shelf support that is required, installed four screws on the side shelf support, and then a couple screws in the overlapping metal of the joint for the vertical supports. I even got away doing the same thing on bottom and omitted the bottom shelf. (NOTE: since you use the side supports, you lose that shelf--no middle shelf at the joint=5 available shelves, no bottom shelf either=4 shelves total) By cutting off some of the unused part of the vertical support, I was able to have 3 shelves 17.5" apart starting 18" from the floor and get 4 storage bins installed in under 72" with the first layer on the floor. PS: I recommend picking up in store. I easily selected 4 undamaged ones. Many others had visible and significant damage to the boxes.

cheap, does the job, sorta

The price is hard to argue with. But it’s super thin extruded sheet metal that is flimsy and has a tough time going together. Most of the pieces don’t stay interlocked, making assembly a pain. The other design flaw is the shelves sit lower than the frame. Anything that extends beyond the width of the shelf rides on the thin sheet metal. At the end of the day it does the job, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

These are not like the old ones

These are a super cheap version of the old shelves that Sam’s used to carry that look like these. They are not the same. Very light duty, flimsy. Almost feels like the rails are plastic. I am not returning because it was so incredibly difficult to put together. I do not have a whole lot of faith in putting anything heavy on the upper shelves. Would definitely not recommend.

Great Value

I was a little skeptical after reading some of the reviews. After much back and forward, I decided to give this a try. I need several but got one to test it out and love it. It is sturdy and simple to put together. I did it all by myself and only required assistance to attach the top to bottom since it’s assembled as two separate pieces. My only concern is precisely that tit is not one solid piece but we are going to add some zip ties just to make sure they dont detash. Other than that, I love this alternative for storage. I am ordering 4 more today. ;)

Run Forest, Run

The Good: Shipping was very quick, much better than the big on-line vendor, and product arrived in good condition. The Bad: This is the 12th shelf of this style that I have purchased from SC so I am not a novice in the assembly and quality aspect of this type of shelf. Comparing this shelf to the ones that I purchased several years ago it is not in the solar system, the galaxy, or the universe. It would be impossible to manufacture a cheaper made product than this one. The assembly will take two people (1-1/2) as the pins keep popping out of the keyholes. The older model keyholes were a tight fit and they stayed in place. The metal parts are extremely thin: Old posts = 0.079 thick and New posts = 0.052 thick (old posts 48% thicker). Old rails = 0.076 thick and New Rails = 0.033 thick (old rails130% thicker). I am very dissatisfied with this purchase but not enough to disassemble, rebox, and tote back to SamsClub. I will not be buying another shelf of this type from SC and would definitely not recommend this product to anyone.

poor design unable to safely use as pictured

Overall, a very poor design. Will work as a single tear, but you cannot stack it safely without it sliding over the shelves. You can be done, but you have to use bolts to secure it safely. I simply would not trust it otherwise. How are used it as two separate shelveing units and it worked decently for my needs. I definitely would not recommend go with the $200 unit. It’s far more sturdy, although nearly double the size. I should’ve went with the units instead of these.

Terrible shelfs

I ordered 10 of these for a storage unit. Nine were delivered and one package was damaged. The shelf unit inside was damaged. I contacted Sam's and ask for a replacement and also let them know the order was one short. After beginning to assemble the shelves we found other damaged shelf units. I have gone back and forth with the "help center" and finally got one replaced and will have to reorder the 10th unit. The assembly is very difficult and time consuming and the shelves tend to fall apart before you can stand them up. We have had to bolt them to the wall to steady them and give them strength. If we weren't in a bind to get stuff into storage I would have just had them come get them all. These are the worse shelves I have ever seen. Do yourself a favor and buy the more expensive ones. Save yourself time, frustration and major headache.

Heavy duty but a pain to assemble

I'm usually handy at assembly but this one was rough. Assembly instructions should call for an assistant. The joining of the top and bottom is tricky but strong once joined. The rubber mallet was helpful in getting parts to mesh. Now that it is finally assembled I'm looking forward to loading it up.

Shelving 2

Fairly easy to assemble. Solid shelf coverage will hold smaller items.
