I am fairly annoyed that I couldn't import my info from It's deductible into turbotax. I have used Turbotax over the years and it had been so easy to import the info. This year I had to manually add them in. Other than that, I think Turbotax is the best.

4.5 out of 5

Overall, TurboTax is excellent tax software, a smooth and easy experience even for complicated returns (I use Premier). Great tips and instructions on most every screen. Improvements needed: 1.) A "reveal worksheet and/or form" feature for every screen for when roadblocks and questions occur and to reveal progress toward completion. I'm thinking of the "reveal codes" feature that WordPerfect used to offer. 2.) Does not always grab all data from previous years even though you've imported it; sometimes asks for previous year information to be manually inputted, introducing the possibility of errors.

Very Reliable and Consistent

A TurboTax user since 2001. TT provides choice of own control or prompting. I prefer desktop version because I don't feel intimidated by being on the Internet, I am more relaxed. Easy to follow prompts. TT prompts could be a bit more aware of individual state situations related to Federal taxation, i.e. state sales tax deduction. For 2018 tax year's changes this will be very important.

State apportionment of income

I need to assign income to another state. The question asked refers to income taxed by both states. This is difficult to understand since this income has not been taxed by both until it is entered into Turbo. Would like the question to refer to designated state income instead of taxed income.

Update Difficult

The program update was 186.3 MB and I had to try numerous times to get a complete update. Ended up calling for assistance. Claudia C. was very patient and stayed with me. The program would not let me submit my tax return without the update. It would be nice if the updates were more modular so that they would not be so difficult.

TurboTax/Intuit user for many years

I usually start filling in tax information prior to when I have all the necessary forms. I particularly like the following features: - It is very easy to add information as it becomes available - I can fill out Fed. forms for other family members without additional charge - With my Federal tax filing, I am entitled to 1 free state tax filing

So easy and helpful.....even I can do this.

This is the 10th year in a row that I have used TurboTax. It gets better and easier every year. Now granted I don't have a very complicated tax situation, but even more the reason to do it yourself. I'm a believer and will continue to be a customer. Thanks for taking something so daunting and making it easy.

18 years of Turbo Tax

I am retired CPA, used to using tax firm software, so it was traumatic to convert to Turbo Tax when I retired, but knew it was all we needed. As we have aged, our finances are simpler and the Premier version is fine for us. I have not had difficulties with Turbo Tax in 18 years of use (maybe even more). It is unfailingly accurate and easy to use. I liked the old "It's Deductible" that included medical expenses, but realize most people don't have the huge pile of them that we now do. Nonetheless, it was great for entering lots of detail that I now have to do on Excel. Turbo Tax keeps me organized and makes filing a cinch. Love e-filing, too, and am hoping the encrypted security features keep our return safe. Don't like that I cannot access prior year data without using thumb drive to save prior year return unencrypted, since encrypted data stored on computer can no longer be entered as comparative prior year data or fill the boxes with repetitive data or carryover data. Hope you can work out a better way and keep the data safe.

suggested improvements

I like turbotax but must re-learn it every year since you only use it once annually. 1) I only have 1099s to report and wish there was a quicker way to bypass the W2 info.... 2) I do not have enough in deductions to exceed the standard deduction. Why can't I have an option to skip over the deductions since they never apply to me? Especially next year with the standard deduction going to 24K for a married couple?

2017 Individual Tax

The biggest con I have is not all the income is brought over for state purposes. Interest and dividend income has to be reentered for the taxable portion. I think it would be a lot easier to bring over the federal and have a second column where you can list the non taxable portion.
