Confusing at times

I initially started the return in January but had to stop and wait for brokerage data to be available in late February. On returning it did not appear to have what I had previously entered. Then between pulling info from Quicken and then downloading data from the brokerage account I had some items entered twice. It took going back through all the entries to finally figure out what to delete. Sale of a second home being taken care of under the investments section was also a surprise. Finding where to apply this years refund to next year's estimated taxes was not as obvious as I would have expected.

Confused!

When I was doing my taxes for e-file State, I was asked if I wanted to have my account debited for the due amount. I said, "No, I'll mail a check." Later, it took me to the page listing all my account information, and the date I wanted my account debited. Then, after I had e-filed, it printed my form for mailing the due amount to the state. Very confusing. Now, I don't know if I need to mail the check, or not. I'm guessing the checking data was for the Federal and that I still need to mail the check to State. But, that was very confusing! It didn't clearly state the banking info was for the Federal only.

Good program, but

Like T-tax. Have used for years. DO not like having to upgrade for ONE K-1 entry. Also, no upfront notice on a state tax filing fee, was MORE than what the tax was! Sometimes difficult to change data without deleting and starting over. But, has been accurate and no audit problems.

Makes Taxes Easy

I have used Turbotax for more than 10 years, and it definitely makes things much easier. I wish it did not try to force you to print out everything or group printing with saving. It should make it easier to do each of those. I also feel that I would like to see the tax forms more easily.

Post-update glitch

I completed nearly all of Federal Return. After a save, when I logged back in, screen display indicated that a program update was being done. When the update was completed and your program re-opened, instead of being at the point near the end of my return where I had left-off, I was again at the beginning, and it was difficult to determine how best to navigate through previously completed screens in order to continue and complete.

Issue if you have a nominee for Capital Gains

I invest with my sister and when I sell a security, I have to override the Schedule D capital gains because it doesn't allow for a nominee. Schedule B dividends and capital gains allow for a nominee. Tee Schedule D capital gains overrides do not carry forward to the state return, even though it is very obvious if you look at the state return that they should. Missed this last year, so now I have to file an amended return. I know there is something wrong with Nondividend distributions on Schedule B when there is a nominee. I don't know what the heck is going on. I have to be the expert on this and that is why I bought the software.

Rate Premier Turbo Tax

I deleted all information from old form and still could not get rid of it. It keep coming up on review return before e-mailing return. How do you put all the stocks (Dividends) I own in alphabetical order? I could not delete my old SUV i bought in 2003 and it has been depreciated.

First timer

As this was the first time I have prepared my own taxes I was pleased with the results. It is a complex process as the government has do nothing to simplify the tax preparation. Turbo tax was able to ask most of the questions so I was able to enter the information. Just when I was ready to file I reviewed last years return versus the printout of this years Turbo tax prepared and found an important area of "Loss Carry Forward" was missed this year. After researching it I found the areas were contained within the Turbo tax program, but somehow the questions were not asked to lead me to fill it out the first time thru. Thankfully the program allows you go back to any section as long as you have not clicked "Submit" for the tax forms. I was able to find the needed data and correct my return. I don't think there was any other means other than getting a professional to do my taxes that would have gotten me ready to file this year. I recommend Turbo Tax.

Not the Best at Explaining

Please improve the entry procedures for taking foreign tax credits! Also, when I have a K-1 (Oil & Gas Royalty distribution) it is very difficult to to figure out how to take expense write-offs. Had to figure myself by entering as a "Royalty Property" first, with no income - only expenses (ends up on Sch E, pg 1). Then hoping that the IRS connects "the dots" when entering the K-1 (ends up on Sch E, pg2). And no matter how many times I tried, the royalty property's name would not end up in the description/location of Sch E, pg 1.

4.5 out of 5

Overall, TurboTax is excellent tax software, a smooth and easy experience even for complicated returns (I use Premier). Great tips and instructions on most every screen. Improvements needed: 1.) A "reveal worksheet and/or form" feature for every screen for when roadblocks and questions occur and to reveal progress toward completion. I'm thinking of the "reveal codes" feature that WordPerfect used to offer. 2.) Does not always grab all data from previous years even though you've imported it; sometimes asks for previous year information to be manually inputted, introducing the possibility of errors.
