TT would not submit my tax return because of a problem with the K-1 form. However the instructions on what I needed to do were far from helpful. I have a PhD in finance and used to be a CPA (in audit not tax) so I am not a stupid person but I still had to waste 2 hours trying to figure out what to do to fix this. I wanted to just file as is since the amount was trivial but TT won't allow that either. Very stressful on April 16!

I have been retired as a federal government employee for twenty years. I have received a 1009R, statement of annuity paid, every year. This year, the turbotax program categorized this income as payments from an IRA. It is not! The OPM payments are for my pension, nothing more. What is up with this?

Waste of time trying to submit return for one small line. Ugh. If you're in AK this is a big deal if you have kids and the 8814 doesn't come up in the interview process.

Still is the easiest way to file, for me. Help section is usually pretty good. Only issue I ever had was what to do with a 1099PATR, but I figured it out. I doubt my taxes are as complicated as others but for a homeowner, small, real small business, it's a good program.

Only 4 stars because my returns were rejected because they were missing an IRS ip pin. Even though I selected guide-me-through everything, TurboTax FAILED to ask me about the IRS ip pin or show me where to enter it, although there was all sorts of other identification confirmations, including putting in our drivers licenses, including the numbers and the issue dates and the expiration dates.

Turbo Tax is really great for all of the reasons above. I don't get lost or confused like I do when paper-filing because of how the information is presented. This is done very well! Because of this, taxes become a breeze and not the headache that they tend to be when paper-filing. It also provides error checking, which is awesome because it is very easy to make mistakes when filing taxes. TurboTax locates any errors for you so you can fix them before filing. The thing that gave me the most trouble was filling out a Schedule C, which I was required to complete as the IRS considers people who do short stints of work where they receive non-employee compensation, as self-employed and/or to be business owners. I was neither of these, but since I received a 10-99 MISC and received non-employee compensation, I had to fill out a Schedule C. I eventually got through it, but it was incredibly confusing because of the lack of guidance for people in my situation and definitely increased the time it took to file.

Received an error message that total interest needed to be entered but the program didn't indicate where to enter it. Also, received an error message that the small business exemption box needed to be checked after I had deleted Schedule C and C-1 (which I don't even need). Eventually I was able to determine how to fix these errors.

Bug: SchA, line 30 won't stay checked to force itemization when Married filing Separately with itemized deductions totaling less than Standard. (IRS requires both returns itemize or use standard deduction.) Answering interview question with MFS- Spouse Itemizing deductions wouldn't help. Big hassle to merge 2 single returns to MFJ. Bigger hassle to then go to MFS. Carryovers have to be done manually and require Overrides if last year's form is transferred in. Suggestion: Make Filing Status change entries when transferring in last years return(s).

The state portion is hard to understand, is it talking about me or my spouse? This product has no knowledge of active duty military situation, WE DO NOT ALWAYS PAY TAXES TO THE STATE IN OUR ADDRESS. The program kept changing my state in block 15 of W2 to VA. I tried many times to change it, correctly, to TX, but it kept it as VA. Because of this, Virginia got to tax us on both, my pay and my wife's pay (which are double) when it should only be my wife's. Recommend hire military people to help you change algorithms and second, if we input TX, the system should not think that it knows best and change to VA. Will save some money next year by using a human CPA. NEVER AGAIN!

I've been a loyal Turbo Tax and Intuit (Quicken) user/customer for years---many years. TurboTax is so simple to use, transfers information from last year's return to this year. Also the step by step process is so easy. We have a college student adult (21) and TurboTax helps with deductions, and we do have some minor expenses, along with deductible items donated to charity and software works wonders/ Why change? Turbo Tax the best.
