Excellent as always

Excellent way to do personal taxes (fed. & State) when dealing W/ complex tax regulations. E filing is a great benefit. Detailed walkthru's are easier to deal with then collecting all paperwork & taking to pro preparer. Cost for software & state filing is reasonable. Never have had a concern W/ accuracy.

Good product that gets better

I have been using TurboTax for years. There is no way I would even think about doing my taxes without it. Everything is pretty straight forward and help and additional explanations are a click away. My return is a little complex, yet I have confidence in what TurboTax does. The filing part at the end could use a little improvement. There are two different places where you can print out your return and it gets a little confusing.

Not good as taxes get "complicated"

I sold a bunch of options thru work and the auto import screwed up. It was not intuitive own how to solve. It screws up 1098 Q stuff and worst of all, the IP Pin-it let me submit without asking if I had one (even when I did last year). Now I have to resubmit.

Overall good, but a few nagging glitches

Examples of minor glitches: On the 1099-INT worksheet, box 14- TurboTax wont' let you enter "VARIOUS" in the case of multiple tax-exempt bonds, or leave it blank, although leaving it blank is an acceptable option for the IRS> On the 1099-DIV worksheet, it asks for "Foreign Source Amount" if you have paid foreign tax. It took me a while to figure out what it is asking for is the total amount of dividends from foreign countries. This amount may not be included in the 1099-DIV that you receive from the investment company. For one mutual fund, I had to call the company, and it took the representative a while to figure out the sum (he gave me a % of the dividends that were foreign source, and I was able to calculate the amount from the dividend total). Turbo Tax should do a better job in explaining what is needed to answer this question.

After looking at forms, to double-check stuff, not obvious how to get back to the step-by-step process where I left off. Took some time to figure out, although the simplest way turns out to be shut down Turbotax and then restart. Should be more obvious.

Still had to struggle a little

I get a 1099 MISC from a company, it does have a Federal ID #. Box 7 has the amount they gave me. My problem is all the questions you ask afterwards. I am a Health Care Home AID. I don't have a expenses, my patient is in the same apartment complex that I live in. All the questions you asked I had to guess. I know I have to pay taxes for the income, but all the other stuff you asked I had a hard time with. I feel if you ask a question after you enter in the amount in box 7. Do you have any expenses? And you say know you are done. The company that sends me the 1099 MISC use to send me a W2. They stopped 3 years ago and leave it up to me.

Redundant TT Questions

Why does Turbo Tax ask you what your refund was from last year, it should already know that by the data pulled in from last year. The same goes for, "did you itemize last year or took the std. deduction? It should already know this from last year's data.

Unable to obtain assistance

I indicated earlier in the process that I did not have a W2 and was retired. However when I completed inputting my data the e-filing function would not work unless I input a zip code for my W2. None of the help topics covered that and I was unable to find any live assistance. I went back over my form and input the same things that I already had put in the form---that I do not have any W2s. For some reason repeating the exact same thing that I had in there in the first place allowed it to complete the e-file function .

Great, except...

My wife and I are separated...for the past 5 years, I have played games trying to optimize our tax returns. We can legally file married joint, married separate, with or without either of us claiming HOH. We have 2 dependent children, so there are about a dozen combinations of how to file. Wish TT could take the basic info from each of us and give us the "best filing Status". Would also be nice to be able to file multiple returns without having to process and pay for each of them separately.

False claim of "get your biggest possible refund"

1) I have very uneven investment income, and Turbotax offered no help in filling out form CA-5805 to match quarterly investment income with the quarterly estimated tax payment amount. If I didn't do this myself, the default calculations of Turbotax would have cost me thousands of dollars of "underpayment penalty". Get smarter on this next year, please! 2) I paid foreign tax on foreign investment income. When I elected to claim this as a tax credit instead of taking a deduction, Turbotax did not properly fill out, or guide me to fill out Form 1116. I had to go directly to this form to fill things out, and claimed over $1000 of foreign tax credit. Turbotax would have cost me this $1000 tax savings, had my accountant not given me a clue to look into this Form 1116. Again, please improve on this for next tax year!
