Had two 1099-DIVs with six foreign dividends and taxes , and two duplicate countries. Could not get Interview to work using Special Instructions procedures. Among other things, Interview would not recognize one of the 1099's after its first use to select a country. After several tries, had to resort to using Forms and many attempts with three Copies to get correct answers.

Maryland allows an exclusion of $10,000 against National Guard retirement. There is no way to enter this amount in the state form. See MD Form 502SU, (p). You have to enter it in the Federal form as active duty retirement. Ever year the state contacts me about this deduction and I have to explain it to them. Should be able to enter it directly into the state form.

I used to do my taxes by hand. I tried a tax prep service once and found out that I knew more than their preparer did. I decided to try Turbotax and now I have been using it for over 15 years. It has always made filing taxes easy and helps to find those extra deductions to save me money.

I've used TT for about 20 year now and find it very simple to use. Love having the carry-over of personal data, and important tax info from prior year; simplifies entering charitable donations; also like the linkage to Its' Deductible!! Having the 5 year tax history enables me to do a quick comparison to see if I may have missed anything. I take some comfort in doing the final reviews since it always seems to catch some tidbits of info I left out.

I have been using Turbo Tax for several years. The electronic transfer of data from the previous year return and from third parties is very time saving. Each year my effort gets quicker and less stressful. The prompts I find helpful and with my experience I find going directly to the completed forms for my review very efficient an easy. The only beef I have is that I almost missed my capital loss carryover because Turbo Tax did not transfer it from the previous year tax record. Also I got my buddy doing his taxes using Turbo Tax last year and again this year.

Overall Turbotax is great. Everything is quick and efficient. If I have questions I can almost always find what I need through the resources provided. Would definitely recommend; even if you're not feeling confident. Turbotax will help you get the job done.

Even after the early February update to TurboTax for Minnesota taxes, the step-by-step instructions for handling Minnesota non-conformity could be better. On the screen "Federal Adjustments for Minnesota Tax Purposed" there is discussion of certain kinds of income that require recalculating federal AGI to arrive at Minnesota AGI. The process outlined involves printing a copy of the federal 1040 and schedule A and then going through a bunch of work to calculate Minnesota AGI. Instead of having to create a working copy of the TurboTax file where changes are made on the federal side to feed new numbers into Minnesota state processing, all of that should be handled within the Minnesota processing so that there would not be any need for a second copy of the TurboTax file. What really threw me off was the statement near the bottom of that same screen that adjustments could be required to federal schedule A deductions that are based on exceeding an AGI threshhold. Why I found that confusing was that I had no need to adjust my federal AGI to arrive at a Minnesota AGI, so I ended up not having to go through the process of recomputing AGI. However, I do have a medical expenses deduction on my schedule A. From the Minnesota schedule M1NC, not the TurboTax instructions, I determined what to enter on TurboTax screen "Reductions of Federal Itemized Deductions using Minnesota Adjusted Gross Income". Again, I think TurboTax should handle that within Minnesota processing using the single TurboTax file.

We encountered an error in the HSA section - we raised the issue, left comments - but never received an acknowledgment of the concern. Eventually, an update corrected the miscalculation, and we were able to proceed. But the lack of communication was frustrating - we did not know if it would be corrected, until we saw that it was.

I really like the fact that the previous years information is pre-populated. It seems to be very difficult to find the downloadable product when you login in to TurboTax. It immediately takes you to the on-line product with no way of getting to the Download/CD version. Also, the help from the other TurboTax users seems to be of little value.

This is the second year in a row that I've used the Download Turbo Tax version and it's great. I can do this at my leisure and then pick it up where I left off. I plan on using this again next year. It works for me and I feel very comfortable with Turbo Tax!!
