15 years of turbo tax

It was a frustrating experience this year. This is my 3rd year with this laptop using turbo tax and never had this kind of issue with it freezing. Found suggestions that windows defender might be the issue, but after disabling it, it still happened regularly.

Long Time User

I started using Turbo Tax when it was Mac InTax. It has always been user-friendly and very helpful when I've had questions about various topics. I choose to do my taxes on my laptop and save my returns to a flash drive, rather than doing my taxes online. I have done so for years, and I guess I always will. I have recommended Turbo Tax to friends and relatives, most of whom have started using it for their taxes, as well.

Didn't file $500.00 extension

I NEVER finished filing for an extension paying $500. I quit Turbo Tax for the day and signed off. The form that was electronically filed has this error and I discovered when printing copies for my records. Now what. How much do I have to pay? Can you stop electronically sent form which is WRONG! I partially blame Turbo Tax for this error!!! I never finished the process on an extension!!! HELP!

I worked in two different states last year so had to file federal and two states. I had refunds in all three that I wanted deposited to my checking account. I had to enter the account number and the bank's routing and transit number once for federal and once for each state. WHY? Not only are they the same for all three, they're the same as last year. What a nuisance!

Excellent instructions!

I have been using turbotax since 2003 to keep track on my rental properties, they do all the calculations and carry forward any losses. It also figures the proper calculations when we sell a property on a land contract. I will continue to use turbotax in the future.

Shaken

I noticed that there were gross errors in my last years tax return that were not caught but passed through (the 1099 B information was incomplete). Turbo tax did not catch this. I should have but I was travelling and just trusted the process. The return was classified as containing no errors and filed. I caught the error this year, because it impacted my current years return.

Quick Learning Curve

This was the first year I used Turbo Tax. It was not painless to do my taxes, but I feel confident I did them correctly using the software. The biggest complaint I have is that it doesn't provide the capability to see IRS form entries, as they should appear, before you have completed all your entries - and then you have to print the forms (or PDF). That said, I will use it again next year, and deal with this minor quirk.

Still inproving

Last years unused AZ state credit for contributions, did not transfer over to this years filing. Files for 2016 & 2017on computer seem fine, but no way to pick-up or correct during state review process? This did not effect this year, but could have an impact next year. Form 352,322,321,(no form 301)(2016) and 352,322 (no form 301) as well as amounts not showing up on 2016&2017 Arizona Carryover Worksheet

Import of 2016 data

Only during final review of forms did I discover that 2016 TT failed to forward 2016 State tax paid in 2017. Fortunately, I discovered it during my final hard copy review, went back to my copy of TT 2016, recovered the information and entered it in the correct place. If I had not discovered this TT error I would have had to pay an additional $362 in Federal and $181 in State taxes.

Makes things easier but some glitches

I have a love/hate relationship with TurboTax. On the one hand it's FAR easier than doing them manually - but some issues really are annoying: 1) data transfer from Quicken is not complete and "Categories" are not well-coordinated, so some manual work is still involved; 2) investment income import is spotty, you have to keep your calculator handy & help info for that subject is...well, VERY slim; 3) it gets stuck on odd things - example: requiring an employer zip code to E-file when there IS no employer, online advice incorrect, no apparent workaround - then it suddenly proceeds although no changes were made. An hour wasted for no apparent reason. So - it works fine, but not without some head-banging!
