I might just go to an accountant next year.

I am quite sure the calculations were correct, but entering the data was sometimes confusing. For the first time, I could not download the W2 information, but fortunately manual entry was of the W2 was straight forward. Selection buttons were often inaccurate or confusing, like when there were selection buttons for e-filing an extension and for e-filing regular for state. Isn't that why I bought this application? So I would know which form or method is appropriate. Then it asks whether of efile or cancel. What about printing for mailing? I had to go back to print my other state returns. I may just go to an accountant next year.

Failed to file return.

When searching the IRS site for "where's my return", I discovered it had never been filed. Somehow TurboTax let me think it had been filed, and even had my file copy dated 4/15/2018, but it didn't happen. Even if it was a communication problem, or misinterpretation of instructions, there should be a fail safe built in - perhaps a confirmation message or follow up message if the filing date was missed for any reason. Spoiled my entire experience of timely self filing.

Great Refund!

I love TurboTax. I've been using it since 1984 tax season when it was MacIntax. This year I was very disappointed when a change was made that no longer supported printing in Macintosh El Capitan for the 2017 tax year. El Capitan was supposed to be supported until the 2018 program.

Refiling Headaches with Audit Defense

My original e-filing was rejected for some inexplicable reason -- totally unacceptable because I didn't do anything wrong and I've been using turbo tax for many years now. On top of this, upon refiling my return turbotax kept forcing me to repurchase Audit Defense which I had already purchased for this tax year. It forced me to enter my credit card info rather than presenting an option to input the invoice confirmation from the previous purchase. I really, really hope I'm not double charged for this service. This notwithstanding, the Turbo tax app should NOT FORCE YOU TO REPURCHASE Audit defense. It should have at least given me a way to "uncheck" the option to purchase Audit Defense again. THIS SUCKS BIG TIME!!! I wasted a lot of time trying to work around this problem and then ended up having to recharge my credit card. Again, I sure hope you folks at Intuit do not double charge me. This is completely unacceptable and insane for me to have to go through this hassle after purchasing the "Premium" version of Turbo Tax

Can't believe it didn't tell me I hadn't e-filed

Here it is one year past the deadline and I've been in last year's TT return probably 25 times (due to some tricky stuff in the return) while preparing next year's return and it never told me that I hadn't submitted last year's return to the IRS. I thought it was all done last April, but apparently I didn't submit or it didn't take. You would think red flags would come up the last day for filing and every time you accessed the program after that, but I got nothing. I had my email entered at that point, but no email warning that it hadn't been sent. Intuit gladly took my payment for Audit Defense, but didn't bother to tell me that there could be an issue if it didn't actually get submitted! That's a major flaw in the program.

Brokerage imported call option info

Without Turbo Tax I would not be able to do my taxes. Overall this is a great program. Two problems I had: 1) Expired Call options imported did not have a basis included. I had to do 52 manual edits. 2) RSUs and ESOP are still confusing and require manual entry even though the information is in eTrade documents. Please coordinate better with the brokerages. They have the info and TurboTax should be able to import it.

Access to Answer Questions

I used Turbo Tax Premier for many years and the 2017 upload of the 2016 data was missing several lines of data. I tried starting a new tax return from the 2016 file both with 2016 software loaded and without, but no luck. So my 2016 to 2017 comparison was useless. This is not good!

Buggy and frustrating

The app crashed several times. It appeared to wipe my tax return repeatedly. It got into a bad state and claimed that a form I didn't have had a wrong number and I couldn't go edit it because it didn't exist. The attempts to make it more personable mostly just obscured information, slowed things down, and required more checking. I eventually ended up using the form view for some parts because the guided view just made things worse. The final frustration was when I actually went to file and it wouldn't file until I installed an update, what kind of logic is that? Did everyone who filed before this update have a broken return? I understand for simplicities sake it probably tries to make sure it is in a consistent state before it transfers but come on. Also the downloads are massive and I'm confused as to how it all manages to take up so much space.

2017 Review

If there are no problems completing your tax papers, then TurboTax is an easy and affordable way to get the job done. However, if you need clarification, have questions, etc. it becomes very cumbersome. You will spend a lot of unnecessary time flipping through all of the previous FAQ's/questions that others have previously asked when trying to find a match for your particular issue. It took me 2 days to finally find a real phone number, however the guy called me the following day and was extremely helpful and didn't rush me in any way. I had already submitted my question to "the turbotax community" and on day 2 I got several responses which were also helpful. So depending on your timeframe requirements to get your taxes completed, if waiting several days for an answer isn't a big deal then kudos to TurboTax for this as well.

So frustrating

I have used turbo tax for the past 10 years or more and every year it is harder to navigate. Need to get to the forms I need easier and change and find stuff easier.
