It works

Been using Turbo Tax for many years. It works fine, but it always leaves me scratching my head over a few details here and there. Not entirely Turbo Tax's fault, of course, as it has to do with my tax forms from Vanguard mutual fund accounts. Still, it would seem that TT could anticipate these details and make things easier. I'm sure I'm not the only person who ends up puzzled here and there each year.

1095 Entry

1095-A form for determining if health insurance credits apply has a bug or default coding built-in that's creates errors, and will not let you continue / locked into screen. While the Help comments fr other users provided a work-around that kind of works. However, entry page continue to show errors indicating I need to enter amount in column 'C'. I had, they where zero; thus TTax continue to lock-up the screen. Follow instructions twice, so I decided to click on navigation tab "Health" and it then cycled through and allowed continuation of TTax entries. This needs to be fixed before next tax season, and your actual support folks now for 2017 filing must be prepared to offer assistance on this topic.

Generally like turbo tax. But, I find the 529 distributions miserable--no clear way to figure out what to do if all funds used for qualifying expenses. Also, no way in Illinois return to figure out credit for investing $ in Bright Start 529. Wasn't worth the headache to figure it out, so gave up the credit. But, really annoying.

Problem-free with one exception

I have used Turbotax for years and think it is a good product. In previous years I used It's Deductible for my non-cash charitable contributions with no problem. This year, however, it did not pull that info into Turbotax, so I had to re-enter the summary information, very awkwardly, into Turbotax. Although I used It's Deductible, my return now shows that I did the valuation myself (only way I could enter it). I don't know why it didn't interface, since I logged into Intuit to use it.

Year over year - spiraling downward

i was hoping that K1's and 1099 interactions and AMT calculations would improve year over year and still taking the high end version did not help. These areas of K1s , RSU's, NQSO, 1099's are still bad and worse then before. Not happy with any of them. Carry overs is problematic too.

Clarify how many state returns each version canhan

Judging by the user community there are the same questions from other users. I thought I understood until I got to the state return part and then the statement made there confused me and others. Clearly state how many have free efile and more important clarify that using TT to do multiple returns, I do my 18 year old grandson's return to get his withholding back and after reading the comment in the state section I wasn't sure if I could do his or not. The user community said that nothing changed that as long as we were using the same state I could do his, just not efile his unless I wanted to pay extra . Also, I wanted to add my comments to the user that provided the answer but could not find away to do so. Thank you

Mostly Easy to Use

I have used Turbotax for anumber of years and for the most part I am happy with it. My negatives are the limits placed on the number of 1099's you may enter. 20 is not adequate and seems it could be easy to expand. I also would like estimated State Tax payments to be part of the State Tax process. If you don't have enough to itemize on your federal return the state estimated taxes are missed.

I've never encountered errors within Turbo Tax before -- even though I have used it for many, many years. This year, errors in forms 2210 and 8814 required me to delete the forms in order to proceed with filing. Pop-up screens said these forms were needed (when they were not); data entry was not allowed in the blue boxes like it was supposed to; the forms had to be deleted in order to proceed. Totally unacceptable. Your software should be perfect. You are about to lose this customer.

Confusing and Unhelpful

While Turbo Tax tax worked well, there were two issues that were really annoying. 1) It asked me to enter the California Capital Loss Carry Forward. Why couldn't it transfer directly from last year? 2) Why can't I pay with credit card when I e-file for taxes owed? Both of these items are annoying.

Refund 2017

Overall it was pretty easy to use and walked me through everything. The step by step process is smooth. Some things could have additional guidance and details. More detail around what to print when you mail your state forms would be helpful. For the price it should have free state e-file like many of the other tax software. I have used Turbotax for the last 5 years but this is a big issue for me and I might be changing software next year.
