Suggestions for improvement: 1) better help function that does not require going on line 2) provide a way to delete a form (if there is, it is not obvious or easily accessed 3) make the date entry fields more tolerant (if I enter 1/5/17, it should be obvious to even a rudimentary algorithm that I mean 01/05/2017, so why waste my time forcing me to make the correction? Add-on: why can my nick-name be limited to only letters and numbers? Again: silly limitation that required me to go back and re-enter.. four times!!!!, two of them because someone had already used the nickname. Almost decided not to comment at all.

I spent 3 days consulting with friends, family and accountants trying to figure out if I was eligible for Michigan's "Property Tax Credit". This could have been avoided if the TurboTax Michigan software asked a few simple questions in the very beginning. Like, "Did you pay property taxes in Michigan? What was the assessed value of your property on which taxes were calculated? (Please refer to your Notice of Assessment from the MI Dept. of Treasury).". The answers to these 2 simple questions depends on whether or not one is eligible for a Property Tax Credit in the state of Michigan. TurboTax MI does not ask these simple questions so you have to do tons of research to see if you are eligible or not. My brother also noticed there were many problems with TurboTax Michigan, including the one I just mentioned.

Overall, good experience. Still it took a long time because of erroneous import issues from etrade. Two issues - a) for RSUs, the cost basis doesn't get imported properly. It first gave me a bit of a shock wrongly showing i owe much much more taxes. Because shares withheld for taxes at source was not reflected properly (so cost basis needed adjustment). Perhaps it was due to etrade issues. But this has been a pattern every year for last few years. I wish you can modify to at least point out to the user that this would require simple adjustment to cost basis. Perhaps TurboTax can work with Etrade to make this easy. This added a bunch of hours for me to verify, and reverify and reverify in multiple places. b) for some reason TurboTax allowed for multiple imports of etrade forms, causing duplication of tax owed. I had to manually delete it. There must be a way TurboTax can check for duplicates automatically.

It is frustrating that when I download there is NO record of it on my online account. I sign into my account, so I can download this year's Turbo Tax (that I already purchased to download on one computer) to another computer and there is no way to do it. Turbo Tax only tells me that I haven't filed online. I have to go to an email to retrieve information.

Really simple to follow along, but takes time. Very happy with program until we tried to submit then got caught in a lop of "No city needed" and "no street address needed" only to run the check again and find they are needed. Turns out you have to go back into the federal info and take out the street and city and then correct it after the check - this is just aggravating as could be.

While it only took me about 1.5 hours to complete, I did find it a frustration that there were no easy step questions for schedule C expenses, especially cost of goods sold, which would remove the need to go back after completion of the schedule C to re-apply for the child tax credit and earned income credits.

1. 1099-G box 6 Taxable grant amount will not link to the form 4835 line 3c which is the place for it. TT puts it directly in the 1040 line 21. It took me several hours and weekends. Much of my information is stored in two different locations and I was not able to efile because I needed something from last year's taxes. That was a big, unfortunate surprise! I cried, but there is little tears can do when the tax man wants his money.

I've been filing with TurboTax for more years than I can remember. It's always been super easy to use, explained everything clearly, and helped me minimize my tax burden. When you add in the ability to subscribe to the audit defense network, and e-file everything, it's all I could ever need in a tax preparation package.

Turbo Tax works great for simple returns. Quickly gets all required information in. For more complicated returns, all the details are there. A bit hard to figure out why our itemized deductions were capped. But it was in there. Printing partial returns got easier as well.
