Refunded

I have used Turbo Tax for years due to its ease of use, and my father already buys it. This was the first time I had sold a home and it handled it wrong stripping my return. On review even though I made no changes it refunded it. I don't know why but it caused me a great amount of stress!

Federal Portion was Great/MD state not so much

I've used Turbo Tax for years and have never had a problem. As far as I know, until recently, the returns have been accurate (I've never been audited). For the past two tax years, I've been notified of an error from the state of MD, luckily to my benefit. This year I noticed that a lot of information necessary to complete the filings was not covered by Turbo Tax. I wish I had noticed earlier, or I would not have paid to efile through TT. Certainly if there are errors again, we will have a conversation. This will also be the deciding factor in whether I will continue to use this software. If the state program isn't accurate and I have to pay to e-file, I may as well do it on the state's website for free.

It's tax time... really?

Easy enough to use, some ambiguity between screens. Pop up help is good but should appear in a side bar listed of a layover window. Small hick-up when starting new return, there didn't seem to be any direction on wether to import a previous return or start new data input. The only thing that gets me every year, and I only come back because I feel I'm locked into their program, is that you pay a pretty fair amount to get the program and then they charge you again at the end to e-file your state taxes. Why not incorporate that into the initial cost? By the time you are ready to pay this you have missed adding the e-file cost deduction in the body of the work. Thank you for the opportunity to evaluate this software.

Not as good as older versions

I am disappointed that the feature of prompting what was used in 2016 is gone. This was especially frustrating when entering depreciation for a rental. There were numerous other times when the notes referred to entries in 2016 that I expected Turbo Tax to go get...not me. I am not sure I will use TurboTax again. It does not give me the comfort that I am covering all my entries that I have used previously.

piece of junk crashed at picture verification

I would get to the end and try to file and it would require a captcha type verification and would CRASH the PROGRAM EVERYTIME. Called the number and got an idiot phone program that couldn't help. Was going to call help line but TurboTax wants even more money. NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE THIS!

Good Program

Program was adequate. Plan to purchase again next year. Difficulties: 1. Installed OK first time, but created a second copy when updated. Often opened with new, blank return and seemed to lose the one in process, but always found it elsewhere with manual search. Annoying. 2. Needs more explanations in places, e.g. whether my entered data were "qualified" or not. Had to guess. Need more info for calculating cost basis when "not covered." 3. When updating program, it seemed to totally reinstall with a huge re-load. Was there a recurring problem with program or was I being hacked?

Helped with a EIN issue

My only issue was one that was not Turbotax's issue. Forms were rejected due to EIN did not match IRS records. This is my son's return and I usually do his for him. My place of business gives two envelopes with W2s. That is the way they have always done that. So... when my son had two copies of W2s I thought nothing of it, until his returns were rejected due to EIN not matching. It took me 3 times then thought to look at the envelopes they came in date the date sent and discovered that they were 3 days apart and the second one was a correction. I have submitted the returns again and am waiting for the acceptance email. (wish me luck). The best part about this was the way Turbotax worked was a no hassle over paying again for the efile and that Turbotax did not complete the transaction (efile payment) until the returns were filed and accepted. Thank You Turbotax for being so patient with me. I have never had errors in W2 forms until this year. Dave

Not as good this year

I had several problems trying to load the correct file. Often the program would not load the file and would go back to the start. In some areas selection buttons did not work correctly. For example, if there were 4 choices, I could select another choice, but the first choice always remained highlighted. I had trouble with the section for my Roth IRA.

difficult to use

I have several rentals and having to open a new file for income, expenses, etc got confusing. It would be nice to start and finish one property at a time. Also I had an amount on a 1099 misc in box 3 and the system wouldn't let me complete the form. When I went back in the system marked it as a different property. When a box is marked, it shouldn't change on it's own. This is the first time I have used the premier edition and I got so frustrated I called on a friend that does tax prep work and she was also frustrated. I am finally done and now it won't print my doc. I get either the forms with no amounts or just Turbo Tax icon on a page. UGH!

Identity Protection ID from IRS

I was given an Identity Protection Personal Number by IRS as a victim of identity theft earlier. This PIN has 6 digits in it. When I tried to e-file, Turbotax asked me to enter a make-up PIN consisting of 5 digits, which I did accordingly. Would that cause problem to my e-filing since I was unable to use the PIN provided by IRS? Please advise. Thanks.
