Cost

I could have took info to tax preparer and it would have cost the same or less. Program cost + Filing fees + convenience cost to pay by credit card + extra state cost. Plus I don't do anything but answer a few questions and sign there. I will reconsider use for next year as most tax preparers are online now and can do it quick.

Easier than using my CPA firm software

I went back to work for a local CPA firm for the 2017 tax season. In comparison to the software used by a national firm, Turbo Tax is far more efficient in gather data, providing simple explanations, and ensuring no items are overlooked. , Turbo Tax is much, much better in nearly every way! I would recommend using it to nearly anyone who asked.

What Drove Me Crazy

Mostly it is fine and I have been using i-Turbo-Tax for several years. As I am a retired person, I have investment income that does not have withholding, so I always have to pay nice than what is withheld from my pension. This year I had a refund that I wanted to send for part of my estimated Federal and State taxes. I could not find how to do this so ended up getting refund and I still have to file to pay all four quarterly estimated taxes, a bigger nuisance for me and one that I could not do on Turbo Tax so will have to figure out how to do this, either by check or E-File, but at 82, may well just do it by mail, a towering nuisance!

Only one shortfall

I've use Turbo Tax for many years and feel it is better than competing products. I am an absolute techno-moron but still have no problems with the software. My biggest complaint is the program requires printing all forms, and does not allow users to select which forms to print. I also cannot figure out how to save the pdf files. In prior years, this was easy.

Saves Time

Have been using Turbo Tax since approximately 2003 and find it very convenient, accurate, time saving and ends a lot of frustration and research of last years records to enter much of the information. Makes it easy to save soft copy and print out hard copy as desired. E-File is especially appreciated to save mailing costs and a trip to the Post Office.

Al's Review

1) I would like a look forward to the next year taxes to plan for changes such as marriage or birth of child. 2) I always have a problem with foreign tax paid. The broker gives me an amount be not information on to whom it was paid. 3) For estimated tax, I would like the option to just enter an amount and not take your recommendation.

Always so easy

I love having info copied from last year so I don't forget any deductions. I give a LOT of discards to charities. The in-app calculator makes it so easy to itemize those donations. Love the feature at the end that assesses your audit risk. I think doing my taxes with TurboTax reduces my audit risk because it is so reliable. Never been audited.

great program as usual

If you don't have an extremely complicated returns, I swear by Turbo Tax. Even when I had stock sales and dealing with extensive deductions, Turbo walked me through it. If you haven't tried it before, I would for 2018. well worth it from my perspectve.

Easy to do

Instructions for Indiana State return reads :Enclose your W-2 and 1099s and place them on the front of your return." Is it necessary to include all 1099s or just those showing tax have been with held? Not all 1099s come with a "Copy 2" to be filed state return?

Difficulty correcting Sec.179 carryover errors

The Help provided Government Instructions for error correction on Federal Form 4562 (and CA State Form 3885A): Section 179 Limitation follows: "The program completes Form 4562: Section Limitation only if you have Section 179 deductions for more than one activity, or you have a pass-through Section 179 deduction entered on line 12 of Schedule K-1 Worksheet - Partnerships or line 11 of the Schedule K-1 - S Corporations. In this case line A of the Form 4562, line 12 Smart Worksheet on the Form 4562 for the individual activities shows the unlimited Section 179 deduction. ............ ..... Note: If you elect a Section 179 deduction on Form 2106 and on any other activity, this will always cause the limitation of the Section 179 expense to appear on Form 4562: Section 179 Limitation. This is true even if Form 2106 is not used in your return ...... In this case you may want to remove any current year Section 179 from the Asset Entry Worksheets and Vehicle Expense Worksheets attached to Form 2106 since you will not get any benefit from the deduction." Now, even if one were to understand the technical accounting jargon used in the "help" instructions above, the guidance to remove an entry from a worksheet Form 2106 that was not included in My File is meaningless and very frustrating. Apparently the "deduction" was a carryover from previous years returns which I had no idea how to eliminate or correct. Then when I tried to file the checked OK return with this "non-deduction" error, I was blocked from E-filing and sent to an endless loop of checking and finding the same error. My plea is, "Make the guidance dialogs simple, specific and direct."
