Software has a hard time with some security sales and made me have to send in an extra form and copy of my info from brokerage for no apparent reason... never did that before! Also, hard to navigate to things like automatic pre-payment coupons generation for pre-paying next years taxes; even if you don't want to use them . It should NOT be automatic (generating pre-payment vouchers), but should be a key item you ask people about and do not automatically assume they want you to generate them. Poor design on this item.

Couldn't electronically fill Federal and State returns because I didn't have AGI information for 2016. Home invasion and computer failure screwed up my record keeping. RMD questions weren't asked before 2017. I'm 78, and my retirement plans' payments exceed RMD requirements. I had to stop and contact brokers and annuity companies to get that information.

It's been years since I did TurboTax. I was extremely surprised at how far it has evolved for walking you through your taxes. I heard from co-workers how great it was, and they were right! Kudos to Intuit for putting together a truly customer oriented, client-friendly piece of software, especially one that is so important to every US resident!

Whether you're a first timer or have done your taxes for years, Turbo-Tax is the BEST. Read the back of the box and select the product that fits your situation. Experienced and you can buzz through what you want. Inexperienced and Turbo Tax will lead you by the hand thru all the necessary details of your scary return! At the end it tells you if you've made any mistakes and helps you fix them. You print your return and either mail or e-File it. It just couldn't be easier. No math errors, no missed forms, no "stupid" mistakes...

I am 82 years old, and have never done income tax preparation in my entire life. I was encouraged to try Turbo Tax, and it couldn't have been easier. I especially liked the Learn More opportunities with each blank to be filled in. I feel like I now know a great deal more about the federal tax. I will continue to use Turbo tax. No more expensive CPA fees!

Upon submitting my return, and reviewing my resulting 99 page document, I came across an obvious error with my ordinary dividends. They were doubled from a financial institution that I had automatically imported into TurboTax from Capital One. TT listed this value twice, as a slightly different name. Besides their software making this mistake, this should also have been an obvious catch in their software review. (The dollar amounts were identical to the penny, 6 digits). The end result is that I now need to file an amended return to get my extra $400 refund. And likely delay my return for months?

On the whole, Turbotax is thorough and reliable. When using the state-specific filings, it was difficult to figure out where state tax exemptions were to be found or inserted on the forms. I did find help with the questions to community help line. Still, special tax treatment that is unique to a state should be easily + prominently highlighted. Questions should reflect that.

Tried to use Federal Free online file this year and it went very bad. I followed the directions I think, and it shows I owed about -$4000. Using TT the pension income and misleading 1099B were handled correctly and I got a refund. The tax code is pretty wacky these days. In the old days we did forms by hand with my Dad but I think those days are gone and SW is my preferred choice now. The TT lets me import last years file and saves me a lot of typing as well. No issues at all with this program using itemized deductions with healthcare expenses. Solid

I've used this software for several years. 90+ percent is straightforward and easy to use. Every now and then, it asks questions that I'm guessing you would need to have some tax expertise to understand, and for those questions there seems to be no "help" feature! Leaves me slightly disconcerted every year!!

Several problems occurred this year vs. previous years. 1. The program would not allow entry of State refund from the previous year. 2. The program did not pick up the IP Pin number was not entered and the return was rejected by the IRS 3. It's not obvious when an entry block will not allow an entry, that you have to go to "Details" to be able to enter the values. 4. It informs you that you might have to submit a foreign financial account FBAR form but does not direct you to the website for doing so. With all the tax changes that will have to be addressed for 2018, I am extremely worried that TurboTax may not be the program to use next year.
