Foreign Tax Credit

Had a really hard time this year. Don't know if it was because of the import. They system said I had no Foreign Tax Income when I had clearly input the amount. Need to be able to check a box saying you want to use the simplified method and the imported foreign tax gets put on pg 2. It was a royal pain to get it there! I had to override, then delete my override for it to handle it correctly. There is a glitch somewhere. It was putting the amount on my Schedule A.

Just Letting You Know

The ease with transferring data from last year's return was nice and quick. The topics made adding my information pretty easy. Adding bond information was very easy this year when I had to add the original purchase price. That used to be very difficult I complete the bonds information in about 20% of the time from previous years. Correcting an electronic data transfer error from my brokerage form was difficult. It is not intuitive how to back out bad data, but I got it after several attempts. The average sales tax for my area in Texas for our household income was very low. So I had to total sales taxes from my major purchases and all my 2017 receipts. Not sure why the allotted amount is so small. The electronic transmission to the IRS was very quick and easy. I got my IRS acceptance within 12 hours even on the 17th of April, which was this year's tax due date.

Good, but needs some tweaks

Hard to get past errors because they don't allow a user to fix all entries that need fixing at once to proceed. For example California Form 593--address or parcel number. It gave me the option to delete parcel number, but not the other associated field--County, so it was in a loop until I went back in to the return and fixed the form. Opportunity for improvement. Also, there is no option to change the font, some fields are too small and it would be nice to increase the font size/magnify.

Organized, professional and done!

Turbo Tax populates all information from last year's return very well. That info is used to bring focus to essential and extraneous information, also acts as "sanity check" for this year's data. Knowing what data is required, I download credit card and checking acct data, sort into categories, and then am ready with accurate data to input data into Turbo Tax. No worries about accidentally missing required data or inaccurate calculations. Thanks for a GREAT app!!

Everything was easy except K-1's

Struggled with reporting foreign income. Entering multiple K-1's into TurboTax for each country from a single consolidated K-1 form was time consuming and laborious. Could have been a lot easier. Also, errors generated from a foreign income worksheet were very cryptic. Struggled with this for over a week to resolve even AFTER using the help forum! And finally, TurboTax SW demanded a OS upgrade before helping me with my 2018 Estimated Taxes? Really? I can understand requiring an upgrade before doing my taxes next year after I purchase the software knowing that I need to upgrade. But not for the 2017 Tax package that was supposed to run on my existing system. I think that was a bit of overreach on Intuit's part! Besides, I can not upgrade my existing system so I'll need to find another software alternative next year anyway.

After the Quicken Divorce

I purchased TurboTax automatically but it was difficult to figure out how to download it when it came time to do my taxes. I was successful, but the download center was not easy to find. I really miss the Quicken import feature you once had. Please restore that valuable feature. Why the take-away? It doesn't make sense that software has less features rather than more from year to year.

Taxes again already taxed 1099-R money.

When TT puts data in form 2210 it and the 2210 worksheet are not listed after choosing “View | Forms”. After choosing “File | Save to PDF” they are neither listed nor printed with either “Forms to review or keep for your records” or “Specific Forms”. I have a 1099-R for after tax money that I rolled over from a 401(k) to a regular IRA. Per IRS's instructions for form 8606, line 2 should be last year's 8606 basis PLUS THE 1099-R BOX 5. TurboTax fails to transcribe the 1099-R box 5 after tax amount to the "IRA Information Worksheet" line 14. And therefore TurboTax fails to add the after tax amount to form 8606 line 2. TurboTax says I should pay tax again on my after tax 401k money!!! This is wrong.

It Changed

I've been using TurboTax for a number of years now, but this year some things have changed, and not for the better. I own and live in a 2 family duplex and rent out the other side. In the past TurboTax has figured out everything for me as far as expenses, property tax etc. divided between the two units. Not this year. It was, to say the least, a bit confusing and disappointing. I hope I did things right. TurboTax should go back to the way they used to do the taxes for you.

What happened this year? Awful Unnerving experienc

I hope someone will read this . It was a difficult experience this year to review the taxes and file it . For some reason the system made me pay for the state part of the taxes. I thought it was in the price of the Turbo tax. Also , it felt very strange and uncomfortable to keep hitting continue and I was not sure if I was continuing on . The software kept wanting me to go to the area where you had to buy and pay for the services. Just overall bad. RITA tax is awful only showed husbands amounts and my needed to be shown too ( I saw it on the forms but not on the program - very confusing ) and I could not change the W2 for myself. Only husband's was in it . Not sure what you did with this program , but it used to be easier it seems. I've used Turbo Tax for many many years 10+

Still need more figured out

The point to TurboTax is because my taxes are complicated, and I really don't know how to do them myself, and don't want to hire an accountant. For some reason TurboTax hasn't figured out how to put numbers from my investments where they need to be, even though I import all the info. I still have to manually enter things like dividends, capital gains, and foreign taxes. I don't always know how to do the calculations and where to put things, so I still need to use an accountant, even after finishing TurboTax. It also doesn't calculate the difference between my Housing Allowance and housing expenses without me doing a manual entry.
