problem with one form

We deduct mileage to support trips to manage real estate that we operate as an LLC. This year we sold two cars and bought one. We have used all 3 cars for personal and business use - about 2/3 personal and 1/3 business. Turbo Tax automatically started 1031 exchanges for both sales, and appeared to enter data into the forms incorrectly. We deleted both.

difficult to use

I have several rentals and having to open a new file for income, expenses, etc got confusing. It would be nice to start and finish one property at a time. Also I had an amount on a 1099 misc in box 3 and the system wouldn't let me complete the form. When I went back in the system marked it as a different property. When a box is marked, it shouldn't change on it's own. This is the first time I have used the premier edition and I got so frustrated I called on a friend that does tax prep work and she was also frustrated. I am finally done and now it won't print my doc. I get either the forms with no amounts or just Turbo Tax icon on a page. UGH!

Michigan Tax Software has Lots of Issues

I spent 3 days consulting with friends, family and accountants trying to figure out if I was eligible for Michigan's "Property Tax Credit". This could have been avoided if the TurboTax Michigan software asked a few simple questions in the very beginning. Like, "Did you pay property taxes in Michigan? What was the assessed value of your property on which taxes were calculated? (Please refer to your Notice of Assessment from the MI Dept. of Treasury).". The answers to these 2 simple questions depends on whether or not one is eligible for a Property Tax Credit in the state of Michigan. TurboTax MI does not ask these simple questions so you have to do tons of research to see if you are eligible or not. My brother also noticed there were many problems with TurboTax Michigan, including the one I just mentioned.

Basically a good job

I used an accountant last year rather than TurboTax, which I've always used in prior years. I couldn't find a way to transfer basic info from my 2015 return, on which I used TurboTax, rather than last year's. Perhaps the possibility was there and I just missed it.

Frustrating Ending

TurboTax does fine with taxes. It's when it insists, at the end of entering your data and before filing, to try to sell you extra services. I was actually willing to buy Audit Defense. The system froze up. There is no option to decline Audit Defense. It creates a horrible, frustrating ending to the process.

TurboTax was not as convenient to use this year as in previous years. My fault, but I had to reenter data a couple of time because I shutdown without saving. A warning to save when closing down the app would have avoided this. Additionally, I found it irritating that I had to start at the beginning each time I restarted the program. It would have been nice for the app to take me back to where I previously stopped. Overall, it's still a good application.

First glitch in ten years

This year often would not open when double clicked on my new High Sierra Mac. Then explanations under "Learn more" would not open when clicked. Had to resort to "Restart" for program to function correctly but then only briefly. Not happy with this year's edition of TurboTax for the Mac.

disappointed

The program locked up and would not accept any commands, including back or shut down. I had to restart my computer at least fifty times to complete it. What should have taken two hours took twelve. My computer uses windows 8 but has plenty of memory. It should have handled it easily.

15 year user

I will never use the e-filing for the state again. I've used Turbo Tax for over 15 years. Signing up to e-file the state was a nightmare. Evidently I didn't have an account with Intuit before. It rejected at least 6 passwords. The whole process was so time consuming that I wished I had gone to the post office.

A little disappointed

I have used TurboTax since it was first sold, several years. I love it and would not consider any other way to file. HOWEVER, this is the first year I have encountered any problems. I downloaded latest updates on 4/13 (which ought to be late enough to have all the latest fixes) but still encountered two errors. First, and most bothersome, the "Is it Deductible" function in the itemized contributions area did not work at all!!!! I have used this for years and had no problems, but this year, I could not add items to a contribution list. The pop up screen that should have included the selected items list, their value and total only had the item list, and no further info or navigation buttons. So I was stuck, and since it was down to the deadline, I had to manually enter values of contributions. Second, in interest income, I had a single 1099 that had interest shown in both box 1 and box 3. Further, the box 3 federal bond interest had been previously reported. While TT accepted this input and did all the calculations correctly, it flagged this as an error during review. I closely reviewed the form and saw there was actually no error, but TT would not allow the e-file submission until I split the 1099 into two different forms, with the line 1 interest on one form, and line 3 interest on a different form.
