For my brokerage proceeds, the box did not allow me to enter 7 digets. No reason for that. Form 116 Foreign tax credits could use better explanations. Filling out some of the obscure K-1 info is very difficult - could use some explations. Also no lines for some entries.

If you want only the best tax preparation software, then TurboTax is for you. I have used it flawlessly for 10+ years. With TurboTax I have total confidence that the calculations are accurate and total confidence that no income, deduction, or credit items are overlooked.

The tool is relatively easy to use and fast. I didn't have any real problems but it was scary that as I was e-filing (and it was just about to do the non-stoppable transmit) I got a failure notice about needing an update. I was able to get that resolved in minutes but it seems the update check should happen before you can hit e-file.

Generally went well. There is a place to enter deductions from foreign earned income and the explanation is confusing. Then where you enter trips to the US, I thought that all income earned while in the US was considered, but apparently it is only when you were working (i.e., vacation time is not considered income earned in the US, at least that's my interpretation). The explanation was less than clear cut. One frustration was that as I was moving forward and back on the foreign income section, an incorrect foreign income amount appeared. I don't know where it came from and I couldn't get rid of it. I had to delete the file and start over. That wasn't good. A second issue was that as I was going back and forth, I suddenly seemed to be getting questions related to the Physical Presence Test, but I qualify under Bona Fide Residence. It didn't seem to cause a problem, but it was disconcerting. Cleaning up the foreign earned income section would be helpful.

I have been a dedicated user of TurboTax ever since my last human tax preparer messed up my taxes (over 7 years ago) to the point I got audited, owed a good amount of money back to the IRS and she was no where to be found to account for her "filings". Once I got the IRS squared away, I decided to try my hand at doing my taxes myself. I picked up TurboTax for my particular needs in 2010 or 2011 and saw how easy it was to plug in your information and file. If you can read and follow simple instructions, TurboTax is a breeze. I just filed my 2017 tax returns and, once again, they were a piece of cake. No more sleepless nights worrying about a jack-legged tax "preparer" messing up my taxes. Now, I sleep well at night and rest easy knowing the IRS or the State Tax Man will not send their audit letters or garnish my wages. TurboTax is rock solid and there is no need for me to consider switching back to a human tax preparer when I can simply plug in my info, file away and easily retrieve my paperwork in case of an audit and be done with it in an hour or less.

I am currently serving on an Educational Foundation Board for a six year elected term. I am expected to give breakout sessions for the board at conventions and conferences. We are challenged not only to encourage educators to apply for educational funds for professional development and projects, but also to donate funds to grow our resources. I am expected to do this as a volunteer and pay all my expenses to make these presentations, although the board pays my travel/hotel/food expenses when we have our board meetings once or twice a year. Why isn't there a place for me to deduct my expenses and travel for this volunteer work?

Had me going back for things it missed asking. Required 'update' to SW just as I was about to transmit. fortunately I was able to recover all the work I had done. Really sucks. SW "really" needs some serious user interface work. OK - so where is the SUBMIT for this 'Quick Comment'? Is it labeled PREVIEW?

Easy step start to finish is a snap. Very easy to navigate into different topics on your own. Gives great status of work completed and comparisons with previous year incomes, deductions, and taxes. Love the audit probability assessment, a great comfort when done.

I was a little disappointed in how my 1099-MISC were handled. One was for oil/gas royalties and it skipped right past the depletion deduction, severance taxes, and other expenses. If I hadn't know to look for this it would have cost me BIG. The other was for contract work my wife did, and it was again lacking in guidance on how to respond to many of the questions, explanation of the self-employment tax, etc.

I sold stock, some of which required a detailed listing of the stock sales transactions. TurboTax only provided a summary. So I indirectly found out that I had to also mail to the IRS the detailed list of transactions along using forms 8489 and 8453. TurboTax should have pointed this out during the end-to-end filing process.
