I could not submit my return after finishing it. Turbotax said I needed to update the Turbotax software. I had done that earlier but couldn't send my return. I tried three times and I couldn't send my return. Then I closed Turbotax and then finally I could send my taxes in. I have updated my Safari at a higher level than needed but still Turbotax said that I should update my Safari.

I've been using TT for complex returns for years, yet I ran into trouble this year getting the software to accept my backdoor Roth contribution. After several hours on the phone with two different advisers on three separate calls, I ended up having to reverse it all with my investment firm. Then the software wouldn't accept a taxable regular IRA transition! Long story short, TurboTax software has been dumbed down this year, as well as the phone support. In previous years I was able to reach very knowledgeable CPA and/or enrolled agents, using the Premier version. No more, sadly!

This years version was not up to par. It acted like it imported last years, but a lot of important info wasn't there. It cost me a lot of time to look it up and put it back in. And the records I have had from year to year were lost for depreciation on my rental. I couldn't compare this year to last which has always been a nice feature. I've been a fan for 20 years but I may not buy again next year.

The only issue I have is that TurboTax did not ask the preparer if he/she paid health insurance out of pocket (with after tax dollars). With premiums being so high, this can have a major effect on potential taxes. The "Help" drop-down box only discussed employer-provided plans (you usually cannot write-off), and small business insurance. It had nothing about paying out of your own pocket with after-tax dollars. This should be an automatic question that a user has to fill out.

Start up problem. Froze every 10 minutes at first and got to where it froze every two minutes. Searched online for a fix. Turbo tax website was no help. Found that running it in windows 7 compatibility mode worked. No more crashes. Spent hours getting data for maximum deductions but didn't need any as I'm retired. Got the same refund without any. Wasted a lot of time. Could not find a way to close printer window. Otherwise it worked fine. Smarter now but will try it again next year.

I have been using TT to prepare my returns each year since the middle 1990s. It was at that time a simple and actually fun way to prepare taxes. But in recent years it has become unduly complex, difficult to make changes or find out where entries on a form were derived from so they could be changed, Import from last years' return did not function properly, leaving out almost all of the pertinent information. It also took me considerable time to go through the end process so I could submit our return--without any warning that I would need drivers licenses and the like for my spouse who was at work. Even this review submission took more time than it was worth. I have already made a note to look for better software for my 2018 return.

I have used TurboTax for about 40 years. I love it. This is the first year that I had a glitch appear. The program never asked me about the form 592-B. I almost paid CA $177 instead of receiving a $588 refund. If I had not went through the actual pages of the tax forms, I would not have noticed that an error was in the return.

A known bug for past 3 years miscalculates 529 Savings plan benefits and almost cost me another grand. I can't believe that this is a known and documented bug for 3 years and Intuit has yet to fix! Fortunately, past users have posted a work around .. but this was only after I spent several hours reviewing the worksheets trying to understand what this software doing.

I used to be proud to do my own taxes. Then life went beyond one W-2 and standard deductions; and tax laws got inevitably more complex. I tried Turbotax on a friend's recommendation and haven't looked back. Even though it took me five hours this year, I dread to think where I would have been with pencil and paper.

Did it all. Made the investment sales a breeze. BUT had to enter the foreign taxes withheld directly into the forms - a pain to figure it out and then enter it. Also when updating the software/files at the launch of the software, there is no indication if the updating is launched or it has frozen. Eventually it indicates that files are being downloaded. It would be better if a clock or hourglass or something gave an indication that it is in process. Otherwise, this is somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 years of using TurboTax. Wouldn't go elsewhere.
