20kw Aluminum chassis Generac - 5 years and counting

I have had our 20kw Generac Aluminum generator for over 5 years and she has never missed a beat. Compared to an older 15kw steel jacketed generator we had at our last home this unit stll looks like new. It has the automatic transfer switch which also has never failed us. We live in the heart of Hurricane country but I trust that my Generac will be at the ready when the time calls. Maintenance and oil changes are a snap and I could not be happier. I am thinking of installing one at a home in Colorado which also has many power outages.

Good investment

Having just bought an old house in the country and putting in all new plumbing and heating, we wanted to protect our investment with a generator. We have had the generator for over a year and went months with no power outages but this past summer was a different story with all the storms. When people worried about having no power, my family was confident in the generator. I did have some issues with installation however. The dealer set the battery and the coldpac kit up incorrectly leading to weeks of malfunction since the battery was dead. After I called Generac directly, the electricians fixed the wiring issue. No problems since. I like that I as the consumer could call Generac for info and assistance. This is very important for us independent Vermonters!

Excellent investment!

We purchased and installed our Generac Guardian 20 KW Generator in the Fall of 2010. Having used this generator for a little over a year now, I can honestly say I only wish I had made my purchase sooner. We have experienced several power failures at our home since our installation; our Guardian Generator has always performed flawlessly! The Automatic Transfer Switch and Automatic start features make it a home owners dream. Have no reservations about buying this Generator -- it's GREAT!!!

Excellent in every aspect!

I did a lot of research and the model 5875 is everything it appeared to be. This is not a mixed box of parts..ie...engine from one source and generator from another....appears well thought out and engineered. It's nice to find some good USA made quality. the documentation is excellent with straight forward instructions and well trained installers

Worked as expected!!

Had this full- house generator installed after Hurricane Irene last year....and now, Hurricane Sandy : this generator came on within 15 seconds of losing our electricity and operated flawlessly for 96 hours....I realized we had gotten the electricity back only when I noticed the very low hum outside the house had ceased.....LOVED having this generator!!

Extremely satisfying!

We got a 20 kW Generac installed the summer of 2014 when we moved into a new home. The previous owners had one already but decided to take it. So we just replaced it with a brand new one. So far we have had only two power outages. One in January of 2015 and one about a week ago. We were so happy to have it when we lost power during the ice storm because the whole house could be heated! Also when we lost it a week ago our neighbors were without power for 3 days from just a pop up summer storm, but we weren't because we had a Generac. All of our neighbors had to leave their home to go to a hotel because there was 100+ degree temperatures during the day. We were so relieved that it our generator could run 2/3 AC units and everything else in our 5,000+ sq. ft. home! This was our first backup generator and have been very satisfied since we have moved. So far it's been great and hope it will last a long time. I just wish Generac made an air cooled generator bigger than 22 kW because they are so much more affordable then a liquid cooled and some people don't want to spend $15,000+ dollars for a liquid cooled model that will run 3 AC units at once!

Generac is my Severe Weather Backup Power Source

Coastal Living is better with a backup power source during times of severe weather. My automatic 20KW propane-fueled Generac provides the power to run my entire home. The system self-tests once a week and hearing the generator start and run automatically is reassuring to this coastal homeowner. Working with my local electrician, Aaron's Electric, the installation and testing of the unit went smoothly. The unit was shown to provide the power to run all the appliances in my home. The power changeover to generator power takes about 10 - 15 seconds once the unit is running and outages are less than 1 minute during the transition. I am very happy with quality of the unit and the ability to keep my household running during times of severe weather. Generac power systems work well and provide the backup needed during power outages. I recommend this product for all coastal home owners.

Best Investment I have Made in a While

We bought a home in an older part of town that has very large mature trees. I noticed that about half the homes in the neighborhood had generators so it made me think we probably should get one. The previous owners had an old portable generator. My wife and I went back and forth on whether to get a portable, partial, or whole house generator. Ultimately we decided on whole house. It was installed in July 2011 and I wondered when or if we would actually use it. Then came Tropical Storm Lee (Labor Day weekend), we lost power on Monday and it was not restored until late Thursday afternoon. I must say the generator has already paid for itself in my opinion, it would not have been any fun to have our food spoil much less be hot with children in our home. The 20kW easily powers our entire home including a 5 ton AC unit, three refrigerators, oven, and we can even wash clothes (with gas dryer). I highly recommend this unit, on its very first service it ran for 73 hours continuously without a single problem.

It had the quiet test and was able to handle all my electrical power needs.

We had lost power 9 times during the year. When the hurricane hit and then the October 29 blizzard in the Northeast I decided to by a generator. Trying to live without power for 8 days was a nightmare. After reading on them and speaking to the people at Generac I chose Generac. It just made sense. They knew their product and I felt comfortable in purchasing this product. The 20 KW generator met all my needs. It was able to power refrigeration, AC, lights, and most important are well pump. Also for the size it is remarkably quiet. It was one of the best purchases I have made.

power to spare

Installed the 20 kw about 1 year ago (2010) it has been in use twice for 28 hours so far. It powers the entire house . I do have a problem with a ''low Voltage'' RED warning which keeps the generator from automatically starting during a power outage and on the weekly self-test. Sometimes it starts sometimes not . It will start manually all the time. Generac should check this out Otherwise a great unit.
