Peace of mind

I bought this 20KW Generac for peace of mind. I was constantly losing power because of storms or even brown outs from over use of the power grid. Now I can rest assured that in the event of loss of power I will have no worries. The electical contractor was efficient and knowledgable about the product and installation.

A real piece of junk

Just got a new 20kW and on first fire up it would not hold voltage. One problem is that wires were not connected at the factory. Throttle was misaligned, stepper motor not functioning. That problem got fixed and then when power was transferred the first load over 20 amps it would shut down. Checked fuel, fuel flow, everything and even the local dealer was getting frustrated by the run around. So now three months later have a real expensive piece of junk sitting by the house.

I love it

The best part of this product was the purchase. I bought it and except for the weekly tests and the initial running of it I haven't needed it even after Sandy and now the noreaster. As silly as this post is I love the generator for the piece of mind it gives me.

Best Investment I have Made in a While

We bought a home in an older part of town that has very large mature trees. I noticed that about half the homes in the neighborhood had generators so it made me think we probably should get one. The previous owners had an old portable generator. My wife and I went back and forth on whether to get a portable, partial, or whole house generator. Ultimately we decided on whole house. It was installed in July 2011 and I wondered when or if we would actually use it. Then came Tropical Storm Lee (Labor Day weekend), we lost power on Monday and it was not restored until late Thursday afternoon. I must say the generator has already paid for itself in my opinion, it would not have been any fun to have our food spoil much less be hot with children in our home. The 20kW easily powers our entire home including a 5 ton AC unit, three refrigerators, oven, and we can even wash clothes (with gas dryer). I highly recommend this unit, on its very first service it ran for 73 hours continuously without a single problem.

Great Price for a Great Product

Generator arrived quickly, all parts necessary to run included. Documentation was excellent. Only hiccup was the software install, it took 28 of the 30 minutes allotted to finally login with the WiFi. I think there can be a quicker way to do this. Come on guys, this product is designed to be outside out of site, the WiFi has to be better, more range. It took almost 15 minutes for updates, how about having a download site and let us use a USB drive to transfer, that would take what 2 minutes? Don't get me wrong this is a great product and I will sleep better after today

Piece of Mind

Working in the Emergency Management field has taught me a number of things about personal preparedness. Living in hurricane prone Louisiana has taught me to prepare for the worst because it can happen. After fighting with gas cans and long lines at the gas stations during Hurricanes Gustav/Ike, I opted to purchase a Generac 20kw standby generator, which is currently running on natural gas to give us unlimited runtime. Since installing the unit in 2010 we've had a few 2-4 hour scheduled power outages. This generator runs everything in my house, which is ALL electric. It has no problem handling my 3-ton A/C unit, dryer, hot water heater, range, microwave, and of course lights and fans, all at the same time. It's set to exercise once a week, without load, and starts every time. Every once in a while I throw the main breaker to ensure that the generator carries the load of my house, which it has no problems doing. In summary, I couldn't be more pleased with this generator. Since my installation my father has purchased a Generac 17kw for his house, and my brother has plans to purchase one in the near future. This generator coupled with the 200 amp whole house automatic transfer switch is rock solid, and can't be beat. Thanks Generac for giving me and my family piece of mind.

20KW Whole House Generator

This 20KW is a great whole house generator. It is tied in my main panel, and powers everything. I have the wireless monitor in my kitchen to keep an eye on the Heartbeat of the unit. The only thing I would change would be to exchange the trickle charger that comes with generator with a better quality, like a Battery Tender brand. LMartin from Kuttawa,KY

Saved my bacon many times

I live in a rural area frequented with power failures. Some have lasted as long as 14 days. We installed this unit 3 years ago and it already has a couple of hundred hours of run time. With a regular service contract, this unit has never failed us. It powers our whole house with no problems. Peace of mind at last....

I forget we have it!

My wife and I live in a fairly isolated area, so when we built our house one necessity we decided on was a generator. The power goes out on what seems like a regular basis, but the Generac starts right up automatically and we go on with our lives. No worries about when Public Service might get us back on the grid. The 20 KW unit powers the whole house - my wife can cook on her induction range while the oven runs, the theater room rocks and the geothermal units pump heat into the floors. All at the same time. The unit is quiet enough that other than a few seconds interruption in power while it starts up, it's easy to forget that it's doing it's job!

excellant product

I installed 2 of these units in my 2 homes in 2009. Installation process was easy and straightforward. I also used the "Genready" 200 amp transfer switch panels to replace the existing 200 amp panel in each home. The generators are very quiet and have had no complaints from the neighbors. A very good investment in piece of mind. In October of 2010 we were without utility power for 41/2 days; sure glad we had our Generac Guardians!
