Loved this trash can for the first month or so. I didn't know how I had lived without the deodorizing feature since I have a 1 year old with smelly diapers. Then the sensor just stopped working. I thought it was the cord, so I put batteries in it. Still didn't work, so I bought a new cord. Now it works about 50% of the time. At least the lid still stays tightly closed to keep the smell in, but I would really love for it to open when I have something to throw in there. Pretty expensive trash can for me to have it only about 3 months, and now I'm already looking for another option.

I needed a trash can for our guest house so I bought one at local walmart while doing grocery shopping. Well? I got home and installed batteries, turned it on and nothing worked, and have to go back and get a new one, and hope this one works, it is a fair price compare with ITouch we bought on line, hope it will last.

I think maybe if we hadn't had a Ninestar touchless trash can before this that maybe I'd view it more favorably. Our prior SimpleHuman trash can worked beautifully for 5 years and when it finally died, to replace it with the same brand would be almost twice as expensive as this one. It had great reviews so what the heck, let's try it. Bottom line is we're returning it and replacing it with the new version of the SimpleHuman can. This unit, the sensor doesn't always detect motion so it can be frustrating to get it to open, then it opens really quickly which can be handy, but then it closes at the same speed and does a very poor job of sensing if our hands are still in range and putting things in, so every day it would close on our hands. And, the way you put bags in and the design of the lid is poor. You put the bag in and need to use a separate ring and then fold the bag over the ring and into the can to get the bag not to show once the lid's in place. And that makes replacing a bag a pain in the butt. With the SH unit, the can opens a bit more slowly and a lot more smoothly than this unit, stays open a bit longer and does a great job of sensing if we're still in range, then closes slowly and smoothly. And there's no need for a separate bag ring, they designed the lid to actually cover enough of the sides that it covers the bag. What an idea. The SH is just a MUCH better design and execution. It's a lot more money, but you get what you pay for.

So this thing uses batteries, the lid is small so debris collects all around edges, and the sensor stopped working (probably due to location and debris) after a few months, (tried replacing batteries- still would only open with buttons after sensor stopped working) It was not any good- ended up buying a foot one where entire top opens- way less messy and can wash it with a hose... this one really can't be cleaned another serious design flaw.

Producted worked fine for 3-4 months. After 1st battery chance it was slow even after swapping with brandenew batteries.Then it just stopped working. I could hear the mechanics working but it just wouldn't open. Ninestar promised to ship a new lid due to warranty and here I am 4months later, still no lid. I have thrown this out and do not recommend.

Almost from the start this trash can’s motion detector would mess up. It continues to just stop working randomly with full fresh batteries. You have to open it, turn off the switch, wait a while and then restart and it usually starts working for a while after that, until it doesn’t. Really disappointing since I researched a while and thought this sounded great. Would not buy again.

Hi! Moved into our new home and we were anxious to set up our new trash can! More classy than I would ever have pursued, but it looked so nice with all of my new appliances and since there is not someplace for me to tuck the trash can into a corner, this seemed perfect and it covers, conceals any odors and I couldn't be happier! Until after about 30-40 days although it appears to be lighting up and working as it was, the lid no longer opens. If I can open it manually, it will not stay open, so we've had to remove the lid entirely. Yes, we replaced the batteries, same results. Is there something that we are missing? We really do not want to return our pretty trash can =) Afterall, since when could you use pretty and trash in the same sentence??

I got this as agift. They arrived well packaged. The motion works well, a little too sensitive for walk by motion, but responsive. I find I need to turn it off when I am using it frequently for disposing of food cuttings etc. I don't like the location of the on /off switch. It is under the inside of the lid, which is dirty and inconvenient. The size of the lid opening of the large 50L-13g can is smaller than my previous version. I prefer a larger opening to keep from plate scrapings falling on the edges. I don't know how long the batteries last or the sensor will function. It's only been 2 weeks.

I recently purchased this NINESTARS promotion at Walmart, I purchased this trash can because I have a small kitchen, and combining the trash and recycling is a great space saving feature. I went to assemble the new trash can, and found that the battery compartment was not manufactured correctly. There was excess plastic from the molding process that poked up in the middle of the bottom of the battery compartment. As a result, the batteries do not sit flush, thus not making contact with each other and not powering the trash can. I have included a pictures showing the issue. I have emailed Ninestars and sent them a message through their website... no response in over a week. I just tried calling them and their voicemail is full and cannot accept any more messages. What a poor excuse for customer service. Avoid Ninestars products... more like NOSTARS!
