Had less than a year and the lid stopped working… I’ve been manually using it for another year… looking to buy another trash can and seen this with so many positive stars and actually thought about trying again but some ppl gave 5 stars and said it was a waste and not working?? Don’t buy… just don’t. You can get a cheaper manual trash can

This is the second same trash bin I purchased. The first one is similar looking but stopped working after 16 months. I bought a second one because I liked the touchless function and Walmart price is good, thinking maybe I was not too lucky the first time. The second bin started to show signs of failure after just a few months. The manual close button stopped working all together. Then the touchless motion started to stop working randomly to fail completely a few months later. Less then a year after my purchase I have a useless trash bin I need to open manually, which it was not made for (too small a handle), I won't buy a third one for sure!

I ordered this because I had a similar one by the same manufacturer that I bought at Costco. Eventually it just stopped detecting motion. Unfortunately that model was no longer available so I bought this. The first one delivered came with a huge dent so I returned it and received another. Not a big deal. It happens. The reason for my 1 Star review is the design on this is terrible. At the top of the can, the rim has about a 1/8" lip on the inside so every single time I remove a bag, something gets caught up on the rim and makes it virtually impossible to get a bag out without a big struggle or ripping a whole in it. I do not recommend buying this product its terrible.

At first we liked this a lot. It is just the right size for 13 gal trash bags, and the black plastic bag holder is ingenious. The problem is that the motion detector has malfunctioned quite a bit. It randomly opens and closes on its own, and then when we need it to open it doesn't respond. We've had it 2 months and now need to find a different trash can. For what we paid for it I expected a lot more life.

Bought the first one, the trash can lid wouldn’t lift. Returned bought the second one tried to put the batteries in and it crumbled in my hands. Returned it. BTW the service and support from ninestars was absolutely terrible. I wish I could give no stars…

I picked this up at the local supercenter to replace one I bought from Costco about 4 years ago. Same brand and described as similar. Well, I would conclude that Walmart is to Costco what Walmart is to Nordstroms. Poorly made, and returned it the same day, Enough said.

I think maybe if we hadn't had a Ninestar touchless trash can before this that maybe I'd view it more favorably. Our prior SimpleHuman trash can worked beautifully for 5 years and when it finally died, to replace it with the same brand would be almost twice as expensive as this one. It had great reviews so what the heck, let's try it. Bottom line is we're returning it and replacing it with the new version of the SimpleHuman can. This unit, the sensor doesn't always detect motion so it can be frustrating to get it to open, then it opens really quickly which can be handy, but then it closes at the same speed and does a very poor job of sensing if our hands are still in range and putting things in, so every day it would close on our hands. And, the way you put bags in and the design of the lid is poor. You put the bag in and need to use a separate ring and then fold the bag over the ring and into the can to get the bag not to show once the lid's in place. And that makes replacing a bag a pain in the butt. With the SH unit, the can opens a bit more slowly and a lot more smoothly than this unit, stays open a bit longer and does a great job of sensing if we're still in range, then closes slowly and smoothly. And there's no need for a separate bag ring, they designed the lid to actually cover enough of the sides that it covers the bag. What an idea. The SH is just a MUCH better design and execution. It's a lot more money, but you get what you pay for.

Mad item with a mind of its own. Followed instructions and video. Refused to open and close with a 'wave'. Needs a lot of batteries for something eco-friendly. Gave up entirely and just lift open the lid. Then suddenly from nowhere, weeks later started opening and closing at random and now appears to be working. Not worth sending back and fits the space I needed. Just hoping it continues to cooperate.

You get what you paid for. This product isn't too expensive and that reflects the quality as well. I bought this product for about 3 months, yet it doesn't work well any more. The cover for the battery fell off, and the handle is too small that is very useless when your battery stopped working. I would rather buy the manual that you just step on to open. It's way easier! If they combined the battery with the step on, I would buy it again and for double the money, my sister had a ITouch from Walmart.com and it works better.

I would never go as far to call anyone a liar, and I am also sure that many of these complaints are legit. I just wonder how many are due to human error or a bit of embellishment? Besides, if the lid (as many say, didn’t work at all, or quit within a few days...there is such thing as a refund). Seriously though, I really do not quite care. I only mentioned it because I almost shied away from it myself before purchasing one 5 months ago. Additionally, I am sure countless others have done so entirely. I have no complaints whatsoever and it works like a charm. Now there are a number of factors that could make a HIGE difference on the can’s overall functionality: size of family; kids?; primary trash can; location; batteries (brand, expiration date and again, location). If any of the above would apply to you, especially the first three — my advice to any potential buyer would be too perhaps, shy away from any electrical garbage can under $200. I mean, if this lid is being triggered 100 times a day...I’d say, even 20 times a day, who would expect that to last long. Remember, it’s a $60 trash can; not a $600 one. Lastly. There is a button on the underside of the top which allows it to be used without electricity. Honestly, if having to lift a pinky to allow an non-electrical, yet still, hinged door to toss aside a few items is too difficult of a process, try looking into getting a maid instead.
