Became an annoyance after a month. Doesn't open quick enough, opens Everytime someone walks by, sometimes won't open or just stays open. Keeping the bag up and over the rim as well as getting the top on easily is aggravating. Wish I could return. I won't buy again or recommend.

I got this as agift. They arrived well packaged. The motion works well, a little too sensitive for walk by motion, but responsive. I find I need to turn it off when I am using it frequently for disposing of food cuttings etc. I don't like the location of the on /off switch. It is under the inside of the lid, which is dirty and inconvenient. The size of the lid opening of the large 50L-13g can is smaller than my previous version. I prefer a larger opening to keep from plate scrapings falling on the edges. I don't know how long the batteries last or the sensor will function. It's only been 2 weeks.

The lid on this trash can will not consistently work! The company will work with you through the original date of purchase only even if they have sent a brand new lid that once again quit working. Don't bother! You will end up buying a new trash can every year with this product. I will never buy another product from Nine Stars again.

I think maybe if we hadn't had a Ninestar touchless trash can before this that maybe I'd view it more favorably. Our prior SimpleHuman trash can worked beautifully for 5 years and when it finally died, to replace it with the same brand would be almost twice as expensive as this one. It had great reviews so what the heck, let's try it. Bottom line is we're returning it and replacing it with the new version of the SimpleHuman can. This unit, the sensor doesn't always detect motion so it can be frustrating to get it to open, then it opens really quickly which can be handy, but then it closes at the same speed and does a very poor job of sensing if our hands are still in range and putting things in, so every day it would close on our hands. And, the way you put bags in and the design of the lid is poor. You put the bag in and need to use a separate ring and then fold the bag over the ring and into the can to get the bag not to show once the lid's in place. And that makes replacing a bag a pain in the butt. With the SH unit, the can opens a bit more slowly and a lot more smoothly than this unit, stays open a bit longer and does a great job of sensing if we're still in range, then closes slowly and smoothly. And there's no need for a separate bag ring, they designed the lid to actually cover enough of the sides that it covers the bag. What an idea. The SH is just a MUCH better design and execution. It's a lot more money, but you get what you pay for.

Originally I loved this trash can. But after a few weeks it stopped working and we thought we needed to replace the batteries. Turns out the battery compartment door became unattached and it - along with the batteries - fell into the trash. We dug them out and reinstalled them only to find it happening repeatedly. The last time it happened we were unaware and someone took out the trash WITH the battery compartment door and batteries in it. So now we are left without the compartment door and when we replace the batteries they will not stay in place even after taping them in with duck tape. Design flaw in this trash can. Hoping the manufacturer can send us a replacement battery compartment door. Help!

I would never go as far to call anyone a liar, and I am also sure that many of these complaints are legit. I just wonder how many are due to human error or a bit of embellishment? Besides, if the lid (as many say, didn’t work at all, or quit within a few days...there is such thing as a refund). Seriously though, I really do not quite care. I only mentioned it because I almost shied away from it myself before purchasing one 5 months ago. Additionally, I am sure countless others have done so entirely. I have no complaints whatsoever and it works like a charm. Now there are a number of factors that could make a HIGE difference on the can’s overall functionality: size of family; kids?; primary trash can; location; batteries (brand, expiration date and again, location). If any of the above would apply to you, especially the first three — my advice to any potential buyer would be too perhaps, shy away from any electrical garbage can under $200. I mean, if this lid is being triggered 100 times a day...I’d say, even 20 times a day, who would expect that to last long. Remember, it’s a $60 trash can; not a $600 one. Lastly. There is a button on the underside of the top which allows it to be used without electricity. Honestly, if having to lift a pinky to allow an non-electrical, yet still, hinged door to toss aside a few items is too difficult of a process, try looking into getting a maid instead.

I am annoyed because the can didn't work properly. I changed my order to get one from Amazon because i could get it sooner. The other one was suppose to come by the end of this month. Now I don't have a garbage can for my kitchen . I had thrown out my old one . I am so upset

I bought this in April 2021, The lid recently stopped working and even with new batteries, it still doesn't work, in regarding the warranty, I have to ship the defective parts to them, which won't be cheap and then they can choose if they want to honor the warranty or not, Worthless, Junk.

I would have given this a solid 5 star review up until last week.... when this trash can stopped working properly. Actually, it stopped working completely,.I’ve done all the trouble shooting my research has recommended and the automatic lid simply doesn’t work anymore. I’ve read other reviews stating that the warranty process to replace/ repair the lid costs $50, which is absurd. I’ll just take my business elsewhere and put the $50 there. Buy yourself a simplehuman and it last and their cusotmer service is excellent.

The concept itself is great. I love the hands free aspect. However, the battery cover is a huge issue with this product. It falls off very easily and it is fragil after months of use, I'm trying to use duct tape to hold my batteries in place! From the other reviews, I'm not the only one looking for a replacement battery cover. Who knew how convenient this would be!? No more messy trash can lid. Plus, guests think I'm super fancy with my automated trash can.
